Repair Bulletin: This repair bulletin provides instructions on addressing a possible customer concern regarding the operation of
Tesla vehicles. These instructions should only be performed by trained professionals.
Condition
On some Model S and Model X vehicles, the LH and RH frame rail bolts might not have been tightened to
specification, which could result in a creak or rattle noise coming from the front of the vehicle while turning the steering
wheel at low speeds. This condition does not affect the structural integrity of the vehicle.
Correction
Inspect the vehicle for symptoms related to the condition. If the symptom is present, tighten the bolts that attach the
inner and outer threaded inserts of the front frame rails to specification.

Procedure
1. Remove the cooling fan module (refer to Service Manual procedure 18201312; Model S, Model X).
NOTE: Remove the cooling fan module from the vehicle with the active grille shutter still attached as a
complete assembly. Do not separate the active grille shutter from the cooling fan module after removing the
assembly.
2. Tighten the T25 bolts (x2) that attach the inner and outer threaded inserts on the RH front frame rail (Figure 1)
(torque 7 Nm).

3. Mark the bolts with a paint marker after they are tightened.
4. Repeat step 2 on the LH front frame rail (Figure 2).

5. Mark the bolts with a paint marker after they are tightened.
6. Install the cooling fan module (refer to Service Manual procedure 18201312; Model S, Model X).
