Abs and brake warning light come on instrument panel intermittently. Abs diagnostic trouble codes are as follows: C1234; C1235; C1236; C1185; U1260; C1446 auto mechanic states that is common problem with Ford abs control module (brake ecu). Ford bulletin on C1185 code states faulty solder connections cause printed circuit board failure. Dealer wants approximately $2000 to complete repair.

I am also having an ongoing issue with the abs light showing on the dash while driving. I have had computer diagnostics and received the following error codes: C1236 lr wheel speed sensor input missing; C1235 rr wheel speed sensor input missing; and C1185 power relay output circuit fault. I have been told that the abs is not affected and in fact have noticed that the abs does engage in snowy/wet road conditions while the warning lights are on. My mechanic has advised that the last error code could be the global cause of the error. I have yet to replace the sensors as the brakes are unaffected and have been told that further trouble shooting could be of significant cost for brakes that are currently functioning normally other than the warning lights. The lights do seem to be more affected by wet/damp driving conditions.

2002 Ford Windstar w/abs. The amber abs warning light and red brake warning light come on simultaneously. I had the electronic hydraulic controlunit scanned for error codes and it was determined that the above reference electronic hydraulic control unit was defective. The error codes were C1185, C1233, C1235, C1236, U1262, C1446. It appears that Ford intentionally built into the 2002 Windstar an intentional expensive failure mechanism in which the aluminum heatsink in the above mentioned electronic hydraulic control unit stresses the cheap circuit board in the same unit causing the circuit board to fail. Worse yet, Ford charges approximately $1000.00 just for the new electronic hydraulic control unit. Then you must pay them to download the software into the part, and then the part must be installed at a huge labor cost. These are brakes and therefore this is a very serious safety hazard. Further, as i know you are aware, this is an extremely wide spread problem costing consumers thousands of dollars each for this vehicle obsolescence that was intentionally designed in by Ford. It is my hope that you will force Ford to recall these dangerous and faulty vehicles. thank you, michael s. Edwards

1999 FORD WINDSTAR with 127684. miles

Went over rumble strip on roadway and abs light came on, brake pedal became hard to push. This happened on monday 9/22/2014 my mother in law who owns the vehicle said that this had been happening quite frequently over the past few months. I put my scan tool on the vehicle and got 3 abs codes C1235, C1236, and C1185. The first two codes pertain to rear wheel sensors and the third pertains to a power relay for the abs. We have found paper work for three recalls, one related to sub frame corrosion one for the rear axle, and one for an abs sensor wire. From what i have been reading this problem could be related to the first abs problem with the harness replacement.
