Abs and brake warning light come on instrument panel intermittently. Abs diagnostic trouble codes are as follows: C1234; C1235; C1236; C1185; U1260; C1446 auto mechanic states that is common problem with Ford abs control module (brake ecu). Ford bulletin on C1185 code states faulty solder connections cause printed circuit board failure. Dealer wants approximately $2000 to complete repair.

2003 FORD WINDSTAR with 200000. miles

On my 2003 Windstar i have been having problems with the abs for quite some time don't know the exact time that it first happened its been a few years. The abs lights come on and shut off periodically. As of today the check engine light came on and the abs and brake lights came on. And the cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing i went to get the codes read and the fuse was blown so i changed it and it blew right away again so put in one more so the codes could be read. It came up with 18 codes from just one day they are C1145, C1234, C1185, C1198, C1194, C1254, C1246, C1250,C1242, C1214, C1210, C1446 ,U1262, B1318 all having to do with the abs they could tell me exactlly what was going on and told me to google it. Abs/brake light stay on constantly. Started intermittently about 2 years ago. Now it is always on. Took it to the mechanic and he pulled so many codes i can't list them all. However, some of the codes: C1185; C1446; B1318; C1235 just to name a few.

Abs system activated under normal breaking conditions, caused extended breaking distance. Has happened 13 times since the initial failure. Dealer unable to replicate but scanned for codes and found C1185 which they said was failure of the abs controller/computer. They suggested $1200 in repairs but couldn't guarantee it would "fix the problem". Have multiple abs fault codes all the time now. C1198, C1194,C1254, C1246, C1250, C1242 ,C1214, C1210, C1446 which all point to multiple failures in the computer. Searching the internet it appears on http://www.FordWindstarrecall.Info/ that a recall for this issue may be in the works as of 5/2014.

2002 FORD WINDSTAR with 66000.0 miles

2002 Ford Windstar w/abs. The amber abs warning light and red brake warning light come on simultaneously. I had the electronic hydraulic controlunit scanned for error codes and it was determined that the above reference electronic hydraulic control unit was defective. The error codes were C1185, C1233, C1235, C1236, U1262, C1446. It appears that Ford intentionally built into the 2002 Windstar an intentional expensive failure mechanism in which the aluminum heatsink in the above mentioned electronic hydraulic control unit stresses the cheap circuit board in the same unit causing the circuit board to fail. Worse yet, Ford charges approximately $1000.00 just for the new electronic hydraulic control unit. Then you must pay them to download the software into the part, and then the part must be installed at a huge labor cost. These are brakes and therefore this is a very serious safety hazard. Further, as i know you are aware, this is an extremely wide spread problem costing consumers thousands of dollars each for this vehicle obsolescence that was intentionally designed in by Ford. It is my hope that you will force Ford to recall these dangerous and faulty vehicles. thank you, michael s. Edwards

2001 FORD WINDSTAR with 110000. miles

The abs and brake lights on the dashboard light up and stay lit. They will only go off after the key is turned off. It took several trips to the Ford dealership for them to diagnose these: perform q test abs system found multiple dtc's cmdtc C1185 abs pwr relay output circuit failure, C1194 lf outlet valve coil circuit fail, C1198 lf inlet valve coil circuit fail, C1210 rf outlet valve coil circuit fail, C1246 rr outlet valve coil circuit fail, C1250 lf inlet valve coil circuit fail, C1254 rr inlet valve coil circuit fail, C1446 brake switch circuit failure open or shorted to ground, U1262 scp data link fault, fail speed deactivation switch.
