The mechanic said it appears the abs control module is going bad or is bad at a cost of $700. I replaced both rotors, drums , right wheel bearing, left inner tie rod and my brakes work just fine. The lights coming on are an annoyance and could possibly cause a fire??

On my 2003 Windstar i have been having problems with the abs for quite some time don't know the exact time that it first happened its been a few years. The abs lights come on and shut off periodically. As of today the check engine light came on and the abs and brake lights came on. And the cigarette lighter fuse keeps blowing i went to get the codes read and the fuse was blown so i changed it and it blew right away again so put in one more so the codes could be read. It came up with 18 codes from just one day they are C1145, C1234, C1185, C1198, C1194, C1254, C1246, C1250,C1242, C1214, C1210, C1446 ,U1262, B1318 all having to do with the abs they could tell me exactlly what was going on and told me to google it. Also codes P0171, P0174. *js

Purchased new in 2003. This vehicle has electrical problems and yet we are being told that we have to eat the financial bills instead of Ford. From sensors failing, to interior lights flashing at us, and the vehicle sputtering while we drive down the road. Ford knows that the 1999- 2003 Windstar have serious safety and electrical failures, yet they do not want to correct the problem at their cost. Ford would rather pass on their problems onto the consumer and at the consumer's cost. 2013 at our cost of $1,000.00+ we replaced the coil assembly pack, egr system with brackets, oxygen sensors, spark plugs, and wires. Now we are replacing them again. The abs system, the traction control, and the cruise control all interwoven and all failed in 2009 and we were told that it is not important by the dealerships. We placed our obd scanner on our vehicle and this is what we pulled. P0302, P0305, P0316, C1235, C1185, C1198, C1194, C1254, C1246, C1250, C1242, C1214, C1210, C1103, C1410, C1404, B1318. We were told by many "service departments" a while back that these codes were not important. They cleared the codes every time. Their response to these codes were to clear them every time. Why are we having to replace the coil assembly packs, wires, egr system with brackets, oxygen sensors, and plugs so often, when we are being told that these platinum plugs and wires should last 150k? We honestly believe that Ford should have recalled this vehicle years ago. Ford should compensate us for our troubles, instead they increased our financial burden, and Ford should have placed us into a safer vehicle all at their cost. This is our only vehicle. When it fails, we have to pay thousands to get it repaired at our cost. Ford should take on the financial responsibility when they know that this vehicle has these issues. Major repairs= 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2009, 2010, 2013, and now 2015.

After looking up all of the service reports on this vehicle, i am beginning to recognize that Ford has some explaining to do. We have a large amount of service reports on our vehicle alone that our dealership is not reporting. We have paid more for service repairs than we did paying for the vehicle. Our ac/heat just clicks w/o working, power windows front and rear do not work, power door locks, leaking roofs, leaking doors, abs lights on, engine lights on, traction control light on, engine sputters even after two complete old fashioned tune-ups, cowl broken, front and rear axles severely cracked, sub-frame cracked, rear wiper does not work properly, brakes need constant repairs, electrical shorts everywhere, head lights, fog lights, brake lights all need constant replacements, alternator was replaced 6 times in one day because they were all faulty, brake switch under brake pedal needs constant replacement, constant wheel alignments, wheel sensors missing or broken, power seat broke and the dealership told us that it was petty to have it fixed even with a height difference between drivers, control modules replaced, multiple expensive sensor failures, spark plugs with wires replaced at least twice, starter replaced, parking brake needs to be watched for slippage because it can't hold on hills, interior lights blink in a pattern while driving, can't haul it's own tailgate, battery replaced multiple times by dealership, power mirror switch broke, many more expensive repairs have been done at our cost, P0302, P0305, P0316, C1235, C1185, C1198, C1194, C1254, C1246, C1250, C1242, C1214, C1210, C1103, C1410, C1404, B1318. We were told by many service departments a while back that these codes were not important. They cleared the codes every time. Their response to these codes were to clear them every single time. We only have one vehicle and this is it. I am a mom w/children.

The abs light comes on. Then the vehicle is fine for days then it comes on again for no reason. This problem has been infrequent and has only recently before more of a issue. Usually the problem goes away and does not come back for weeks. I went to the local advance auto so they could pull the code and identify which wheel was sending the code so i could narrow it down and replace parts as necessary. The codes pulled are followed. C1185, C1198, C1194, C1254,C1246, C1250, C1242, C1214 & C1210. That's right 9 abs codes came out. The 1st on is the problem C1185, the rest are failures at each wheels inlet outlet valves. When searching the C1185 issue i found 100's of complaints online for this issue and many dealership horror stories. Too many back yard hacks tell people to disconnect this or that, or pull the ecm only to have that not fix the issue and others telling how they were able to resolder the abs module connections and fix the issue. The one common problem that caused issues was having a dealership brake job done and then the abs systems fails the next day or following week. I have to say that i did not notice this issue after doing the brakes, but i did have them done prior to the abs system failures starting.

Sometimes the parking brake, abs, and trac off lights will come on and stay on until the car is shut off. This will sometimes happen 2 or 3 times a day, and sometimes not happen for several days. Brake fluid levels are fine. Mechanic found codes C1185, C1194, C1198, C1210, C1214, C1242, C1246, C1250, C1254, C1404, U1260, and U1261. He cleared the codes for me and 2 days later the lights started coming on again. From info online, this could be related to the recall of the speed control system modification (i have not had that repair done yet).

For the past year the abs and brake lights have intermittently illuminated on the dashboard of my 2002 Ford Windstar. About 1 week ago they came on and have remained illuminated when i start my van. I took my vehicle to the local Ford dealer and was quoted $700.00 to fix the abs sensor module, but was told by the service rep that i'd still have normal (not abs) brake function without the module repair. Here are the diagnostic codes: C1185, C1194, C1198, C1210, C1214, C1242, C1246, C1250 and C1254. It was also noted that the van's brake fluid is low and a wheel cylinder may be leaking. I also note a very discernible squeaking sound when braking---this has been ongoing for quite a while.

Abs system activated under normal breaking conditions, caused extended breaking distance. Has happened 13 times since the initial failure. Dealer unable to replicate but scanned for codes and found C1185 which they said was failure of the abs controller/computer. They suggested $1200 in repairs but couldn't guarantee it would "fix the problem". Have multiple abs fault codes all the time now. C1198, C1194,C1254, C1246, C1250, C1242 ,C1214, C1210, C1446 which all point to multiple failures in the computer. Hello. I would like to file a report a problem that is currently being reported by Ford Windstar owners. I own a Ford Windstar that has the abs and brake light issue. The problem occurs intermittently, and is not consistent. I have taken my car to the dealership in the past, and all the dealership seems to be doing is guessing as to what is broken, and the problem has not been fixed. The exact description of the problem is found here: http://www.FordWindstarrecall.Info/ i am getting the error codes C1185, C1198, C1194, C1254, C1246, C1250, C1242, C1214, C1210, U1261. They replaced and reprogrammed the abs module, on mar 31, 2005, but the problem is still present. I took it back numerous times, only to be told some stupid thing. I am concerned that this is a hazard/life threatening issue, and i would like the Ford motor to take the time, think this problem out, and solve the problem, and not just guess at the solution. There are other people logging complaints about this, and when i took my vehicle in a year ago for an oil change, i had them check my vin # for any recalls, and i was told that my vehicle did not fall under some of the current ones with identical problems. If this is the type of quality they give to their customers, then my next purchase, i can tell you this, will not be a Ford product.

Both abs and brake warning lights come on intermittently and stay on until engine is turned off. Has occurred when starting engine, or while driving. Under normal driving conditions, i began to notice my abs light would intermittently illuminate. I took my vehicle to my local authorized Ford dealership and i was told my abs module was faulty along with the left front wheel speed sensor. I was given the following results, C1155 - lf speed input fail C1185 - power relay circuit fail other codes below are caused by C1185 and C1155 C1144 - wheel speed sensor rr tone ring tooth missing fault C1198 - abs inlet valve coil lf circuit failure C1210 - abs outlet valve coil rf circuit failure C1214 - abs inlet valve coil rf circuit failure C1233 - speed wheel lf input signal missing C1242 - abs outlet valve coil lr circuit failure C1250 - abs inlet valve coil lr circuit failure recommend replacing abs ecu module and l/f speed sensor. The failure was intermittent over the past year but over the past month the abs indicator lamp is always on. The issue has not yet been corrected as i wanted to look into the issue more. Some quick searching on google quickly brought up that i am not an isolated incident but one of many. I had found on many websites that C1185 is related to the expanding and contracting of the heatsink on which the abs ecu is mounted. The result is the abs ecu fails to power on correctly due to the stress placed on the sensitive electronic board. I am assuming that the l/f wheel sensor is a separate issue but with a bad abs ecu, it could possibly be related.

My 19yr old daughter was traveling to new jersey from indiana on rt.70. When using the cruise control attempted to exit for a rest stop when she applied the break the abs light came on and the cruise control did not disengage. She had committed to the exit ramp thank god she was able to move back off the ramp just in time to miss the over pass barrier. She had to ride the shoulder shutting down the ignition once she did that she was able tob resue. She did not use the cruise control again and but then the engine light came on a cold start. I check the code and dtcs found wade bank one and two lean found a bad pcv valve and replaced it. But when reading the codes found 9 additional codes C1185 C1198 C1194 C1254 C1256 C1250 C1242 C1214 and C1210. I then called the Ford dealership and checked for recalls. Finding 3 i followed up having two being serious and having to do with speed control rear subframe and rear support. When asking the service advisor what these codes meant he had no clue he said and without a costly scanner charge the tech had no idea. So as always i hit the inter net andeasily found numerous complaints . . . I was a service advisor for honda for 5yrs and a tech for 10 prior. I never put my customers life on the line wth? Is Ford teaching these men? I will have to inspect and repair this vehicle myself being disabled this will not come easy. I don't trust them at all anymore. My family's life is to important to have a money hungry company kill them. And once repairs are finished i will sell it and buy a honda. Yes honda is not perfect but i have never seen the company ever mislead customers intentionally as this and when they messup they cover their customers and fix it right.Unreal.

First occurrence of the abs light coming on resulted in producing diagnostic codes of C1185 C1242 and an abs rear sensor code. The abs light was very intermittent at first but now has become much more frequent. The light will display more so on bumpy roads and hot days. I depend on my abs system because i am handicapped and live in northern climate (snow and ice conditions). I can know longer depend on my abs system to help prevent an accident or an impact. *kb
