HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 1, Sensor 1)
DTC P0053, sometimes indicated as P005300 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing ho2s heater resistance (bank 1, sensor 1).
The purpose of the HO2S Heater Resistance (Bank 1, Sensor 1) diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is to indicate a problem with the heater circuit for the upstream oxygen sensor (O2S) on bank 1.
The upstream oxygen sensor is used to monitor the air/fuel ratio in the engine. The heater circuit is used to warm the sensor so that it can accurately measure the air/fuel ratio.
If the heater circuit for the upstream oxygen sensor on bank 1 is not working properly, the DTC P0053 will be set.
Symptoms of a DTC P0053 may include:
The engine may run rough or stall
The engine may not start
The Check Engine Light may come on
There may be a decrease in fuel economy
There may be a decrease in engine performance
There may be an increase in emissions
Possible causes of a DTC P0053 include:
The oxygen sensor heater circuit is shorted or open
The oxygen sensor heater element is damaged
The oxygen sensor wiring is damaged
The engine control module (ECM) is faulty
If the DTC P0053 is detected, it should be diagnosed and repaired as soon as possible.
