P0219

Engine Overspeed Condition

DTC P0219, sometimes indicated as P021900 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing engine overspeed condition.

This code is set when the PCM detects that the engine is overspeeding. This can be caused by a number of things, such as a misfire, a lean condition, or a loss of compression.
There are a few things that you can do to try and fix this code. First, make sure that the engine is properly tuned and that all of the sensors are working properly. If the code persists, then you may have a mechanical issue that needs to be addressed.

  • P0219: Engine Overspeed Condition
  • P0219: Engine over speed condition
  • P0219 00: Maximum allowable engine speed exceeded

2019 HONDA CIVIC

I had purchased this vehicle on may 27th 2021. On june 10th 2021 the transmission blew out (the car only has 11,992 miles). Even though i was able to purchase an extended warranty it appears that due to a code stored from the previous owner on november 2020 (P0219 engine overrev). The factory warranty is voided. This is unsafe to the consumer as the actual code is a private Honda dealership secret, and i had zero way of seeing this code. It was not on carfax and dealerships won’t share information about a vehicle if you were not the owner at the time.

2016 FORD ESCAPE with 75000.0 miles

Vehicle was driving on interstate when it started hesitating and rpms revving up and down chaotically. No check engine or service lights were on. Vehicle towed home, and driven to dealership next day. Same problem started happening when the check transmission light came on and vehicle would not move. Dealership had it for a week and said the torque converter is coming apart inside the 6f35 transmission and needs to be replaced at a cost of 5400 for a reman or 3400 overhaul. Vehicle at 75k miles. Codes P0219/P0735/P0731. Contacted Ford motor co and they did not offer any assistance when notified of this fault. The csr said there is no one at Ford motor company that could let me know how many complaints they have received on the 6f35 transmission, despite employing 175,000 people. There are numerous complaints on transmission failure on this vehicle and it needs to be addressed by Ford. It is absolutely absurd that a car with 75k miles needs a new transmission and Ford will not offer any assistance despite being paid 28,000 for the vehicle! Ford needs to recall this transmission and own up to their faulty manufacturing, again transmission just randomly going out with no prior issues should be a huge red flag. Ford doesn't even recommend transmission service on this vehicle until 150k

2016 FORD ESCAPE

Transmission failure warning came up on dash. I saw the rpms go up to over 120. I had no previous problems with the car before this incident. Car rapidly lost acceleration while driving 60mph on state road 80 in labelle fl. Since the car lost acceleration so fast the car behind me had to pass quickly as to not hit me. Other cars behind had to continually pass until i could move from the left lane to the right, and then to the shoulder to safely pull off the road. I had to wait there with the car for over an hour before aaa came to tow it. Mechanic at aamco transmission total care in bonita springs, fl identified a burned drum. He showed me grooves in it that should not have been there, it should have been smooth. Computer scan gave codes P0219 engine overspeed condition, P0729 incorrect gear ratio 6th, P07AA trans friction element e. I have the drum and other parts that had to be replaced. The repair took 6 weeks as the torque converter was on backorder from Ford. This repair was $4047.00

2002 ACURA RSX with 5705.0 miles

I purchased my Acura Rsx, type s on 10-14-02. On 02-14-03 i had problems with the keyless entry not working when it was cold out. The problem occured four times. I would have to manually unlock the doors with my key and i was unable to manually lock the car. It would only last until it warmed up. I had the car looked at on 02-14-03, they said the problem could not be corrected because it was not acting up at that time. Also on 02-14-03 the check engine code was pulled. It was P1163, slow response of the primary oxygen sensor. They stated that they knew the o2 sensors were sensitive and suggested to reset the codes and watch for further problems. On 09-12-03 the check engine cose was pulled again. It was P1163, o2 sensor & P0219 engine over speed for condition. On 09-23-03 the o2 sensor was replaced. On 10-13-03 the check engine light came on again. I could not get in until 10-16-03. On 10-15-03 the light went off. The dealership did not want to pull the codes since the light went off. I insisted that the codes be pulled, because i did not want to be found negligent if something were to happen down the road. The codes pulled were P1163 & P0219. They suggested i take the car to the dealership i bought it at. They did not replace the o2 sensor again, because they had just replaced it. They felt there was an underlying condition besides the o2 sensor. On 11-03-03 the check engine light came on again. My appointment is 11-06-03. I have sent my info to automobile lemon law attorneys in elmhurst il. I also contacted Acura customer service in torrence ca. I want others to be aware of these problems. The only reason i bought an Acura is because of it's reputation of being a well built car.
