P0523

Engine Oil Pressure Sensor/Switch Circuit High Voltage

DTC P0523, sometimes indicated as P052300 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the engine idling stability causing engine oil pressure sensor/switch circuit high voltage.

The code P0523 is set when the engine oil pressure sensor or switch circuit voltage is high. This can be caused by a defective oil pressure sensor or switch, a wiring problem, or a problem with the engine oil pressure system.
The first step in diagnosing this code is to check the oil pressure sensor and switch for proper operation. If they are not working properly, the problem needs to be repaired.
If the sensor and switch are working properly, the next step is to check the wiring for any problems. Wiring problems can be caused by a short, a break, or a loose connection.
If the wiring is OK, the next step is to check the engine oil pressure system for any problems. Problems in the engine oil pressure system can be caused by a defective oil pump, a clogged oil filter, or a low oil level.

2010 CHEVROLET IMPALA

The diagnostic revealed that there are 11 codes in the vehicle system. These codes ranged from passkey system failures to evap codes to transmission. Suspected failure of wiring harness altogether with possible bcm/cam failure as well. During battery test there was a regular drop in voltage while connected to the scanner reflecting a drain in the electrical system that could further be causing an issue. Codes are P0513 , P0523 , P0700 , P2122 , P0411, P0449 ,P0455. When driving stabilitrack, engine power reduced, and stabilitrack traction control. Sometimes the car shuts off while driving and the steering wheel will lock , i'd w ok old have to pull over on the side of the highway or street and pop the hood just to get the car started again.

I was driving my Pontiac G6gt and came to a stop sign. I stepped on the gas and the car revved at high rpm's. I could not go forward i was able to go in reverse, i have a 4 speed auto transmission. I was able to shift to m1, m2, m3,m4 then switch over to drive and go. When i stopped at stop sign i had to use start with the m1 auto stick. I called onstar they ran an diagnostic an told me i have a n P0523 error with oil pressure.

2006 CADILLAC SRX with 125150. miles

At low speeds when pulling out of a driveway or taking off from a stop sign or traffic light my 2006 Cadillac Srx traction control engages and almost stops my vehicle in the middle of the road. I have almost been hit several times by other drivers because of this problem. I took my Cadillac to a local gm dealership (dale earnhardt chevrolet) in newton nc. On my first visit to the dealer they found a multiple misfire (code p300) and a faulty oil pressure sensor (code P0521 & code P0523). I was told by the dealership that the misfire was causing the traction control to engage, so they changed all the spark plugs and changed the faulty oil pressure sensor. When i picked up the Cadillac from them and drove it home the traction control continued to engage several times. I returned my Cadillac for the second time to the same dealership the next day. They scanned the vehicle computer for codes again but could not find any and could not duplicate what i was describing that the vehicle does. I returned home with my Cadillac and drove it for several more days. The traction control continued to engage and when my family was almost involved in another crash i took it back to dale earnhardt chevrolet for the third time. They test drove it again but still they couldn't get the traction control to engage. They contacted general motors this time. General motors told them to update the pcm and apply dielectric grease to the ebcm connectors and clean the terminals and test drive. The dealership completed the work and test drove it for a whole weekend. When i picked up my Cadillac they told me everything should be ok now. On my home the traction control engaged again several times. That was on 07/21/2014. I have spent close to 1,000 dollars on this problem and i don't think the vehicle is save for me and my family to drive anymore. I have no idea what to do now.
