Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance

DTC P0711, sometimes indicated as P071100 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a generic fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the causing transmission fluid temperature sensor a circuit range/performance.

The Transmission Fluid Temperature Sensor A Circuit Range/Performance error code is caused by a problem with the transmission fluid temperature sensor. The sensor is not reading the correct temperature and this is causing the transmission to not operate correctly.
There are several things that can cause this problem. The sensor could be dirty or damaged, the wiring could be faulty, or the computer could be incorrectly reading the information from the sensor.
The best way to fix this problem is to clean or replace the sensor, check the wiring, and reset the computer.

2017 CHEVROLET CAMARO with 62000.0 miles

2017 Camaro purchased car on february 2017; recently my car has been showing the check engine light every time i go over a speedbump or pot hole or anything. The check engine light will go away in a day or two after that. The third time the check engine light turned on, i got a reading done at autozone, showed it was transmission fluids or transmission sensor. Few days after that the check engine light turned off and took it to ed bozarth, where i purchased my car, service department. The service department was unable to detect for a whole week from 11/24/2020 to 11/30/2020 what was wrong with the car. They finally got back to me and stated my car is reading P0711 for transmission fluid senor performance and they need to replace two transmission harness. The service department is not sure how it happen or what caused it. I believe this could be part of the service bulletin:15111 special coverage.

2017 GMC YUKON XL with 60500.0 miles

About 500 miles past the original powertrain warranty of 60,000 miles, the transmission fluid temperature sensor failed. I know this because an engine light came on displaying P0700 and P0711 and the gauge on the dash is erratic. I did research, and the transmission for these vehicles model gear 2015 and 2016 have several issues including this one as outlined in special coverage n192291660 which extends the coverage for this issue to 120,000 miles. If Gmc has the same issue with the previous year transmissions and knows about it enough to issue a special coverage, they should do the same for the 2017 models.

2015 JEEP CHEROKEE with 3500.0 miles

3rd time where loss of power & service transmission light & check engine light came on. Dealer service dept advised there is a recall on the tcm & pcm software, they did update on friday & also advised my Jeep was giving error P0711-0 code which is transmission temp sensor. They did nothing to address that, just updated software & cleared codes. Next day while driving, same issues & loss of power which nearly caused an accident in heavy traffic. Only 3500 miles, bought brand new in oct, 2014.

I was driving and my 10 year old daughter was with me in the car. When car was changing gear it started shaking violently, although my daughter was restrained she hit her head and hands on the inside of the rear door. Afterwards every time car changed the gear it was jerking, shaking, behaving in unexpected manner that further driving was very dangerous. I was able to reach my home but i am very scared to drive that car again. I read the code that came up on dashboard P0711, turns out transmission oil temperature sensor and harness malfunctioned and that led to violent and rough shifting. Called dealer, they want $700 for a repair and my car is out of warranty. Checked internet and it's full of stories how this is a huge problem with Hyundai cars. It turns Hyundai modified the part since then and never recalled it, they have tsb 14-at-010. How come manufacturer put faulty part that compromises safety of the vehicle and they want huge chunk of money to fix it? Why didn't they recall it? Definitely going to court with this.

My car check engine light came on with a code P0711 car was jumping slipping there's been a tech bulletin on this part since june 2014. I've experienced my transmission slipping for the past two years and always been told that nothing was wrong with it utilize an obd-ii scanner to check for a stored P0711 trouble code check transmission fluid level and compare to manufacturer preset levels check transmission fluid quality check transmission pan for clutch or other debris, which, if found, may require a complete transmission rebuild check for transmission fluid leaks visually check for damaged, corroded, or loose electrical wires and connectors unplug transmission temperature sensor from electrical connector and test for reference voltage, which is typically 5 volts but can vary depending on vehicle make and model check sensor ground wire test sensor resistance and compare to manufacturer recommendations disconnect the ecm/pcm electrical connector to test resistance as well as circuit continuity between the temperature sensor and ecm/pcm

Engine light came on. Took to auto zone & vide 0713 & P0711. I also took my vehicle to aamco which verify the sensor in the vehicle needs to be replaced however they have to take the transmission apart to fix. I only have 31,000 on my vehicle. Has there been a recall already or do you expect this should be covered under 1000,000 even though i am 2nd owner. They did give me a card for roadside assistance

2012 KIA OPTIMA with 128000. miles

While driving on many city streets 0-45mph and interstate 0-70mph service engine light comes on and goes off periodically. When the light is on, car shakes and sputters as transmission gears shift (not engne). Appears to be something to do with the transmission. Caught the light on and read code P0711. According to tsb 043 [rev ] /2/2013 this is an internal problem and must be corrected by a licensed mechanic.

When putting the car in gear, it would jerk really hard like i had hit something. At first it only did it once or twice within a month so it was hard to duplicate. Recently it started getting consistent. It would jerk hard when putting it in gear or park. Also going down the road it shifted really had like something was slipping. It didn't matter if it was in the morning or afternoon. Twice this week, it did it each time i went somewhere. The shifts were sometimes shorter and more often. It felt like it was maybe slipping or needed fluid. I took it in and determined it was the transmission temperature sensor. They replaced trany temp sensor, code P0711. There was no code on the dash, they had to check it in the transmission. It worked.

The check engine light came on. We had someone get the code which is P0711. Why is there not a recall for the transmission temp sensor if this problem continues to happen to many many people. This is going to cost me $500-1000. This should be Hyundai's bill to pay.

Kia technical service bulletin transaxle oil temperature sensor dtc P0711, P0712 & P0713 https://static.Oemdtc.Com/tsb/2012-043.Pdf my vehicle, when still cold experiences rough shifting. Vehicle will slam into gear, up through gears and down shift hard as well, until the car has warmed up. After that the shifting issue goes away. I have taken the vehicle into the shop multiple times, for the problem, and they had trouble duplicating the problem as the vehicle had warmed up transmission repair shop is currently replacing temp sensor as the vehicle is repeating the issue and also stored code related to the problem. This vehicle has had multiple recall related issues, including the engine seizing (which was replaced under recall) which damaged the turbo (also replaced as part of the engine recall). Also, the brake switch light has been replaced multiple times (only once for free) due to failure (related to a recall on that as well). I have had a oil temperature sensor P0711 go out twice on my vehicle. The first time back in 2018 and had it replaced. And now again just this month. This has got to be something wrong to keep this not working and keeping the transaxle oil temperature normal on long rides. I would greatly appreciate if this could be fixed this time at no cost to me. This needs to be a recall.
