9999 MAZDA HOOD with 140000. miles

Transmission problems with a code of P1744. Dealer advised to go for rebuilt one and charged me over $3000 with taxes. I think Mazda should take some responsibility looking at so many other incidences that i found on the web.

2017 FORD ESCAPE

The next day after purchase september 2018, i noticed a slight slippage to the transmission and took the car back because the warning lights were on and the car would proceed to move at a low speed. I was told the vehicles fluids needed to be changed. The next day the issue persisted, i returned to the dealership again and was told the brakes needed to be replaced. On both occasions the monster dealership handled this. The issue with feeling the transmission jerk continued. May 2019 the transmission failure appeared (codes listed below) it was serviced by a&b transmission. Withing 48 hours the issue returned. It appears as though the transmission overheats after driving short distances. After several attempts from may-july the issue could not be fixed and continues as of today. The delay in reporting is that i had no idea this was here, please advise i would like to resolve this. Code P0741-00 torque converter clutch solenoid circuit performance/ stuck off - current dtc - warning lamp on. Code P1744-00 torque converter clutch solenoid circuit performance/ stuck off - current dtc - warning lamp on. P1450-00 unable to bleed up fuel tank vaccum - -pending dtc - warninglamp on.

2014 FORD ESCAPE with 59600.0 miles

While driving the vehicle and traveling on a busy highway the vehicle would not shift into gear to move with traffic. Vehicle lost power. A few days later on another busy highway driving approximately 60 miles an hour, the computer read transmission failed. My mileage was 59,647 which was under the 60,000 warranty but out of date. I purchased the car with 49,443 miles on 8/1/18. I immediately brought the car to sunny side motors a authorized Ford dealership and had the transmission failed message diagnosis done at the cost of $159.95 to find out the repair would cost me $2712.19 which would not be cover under the 60,000 mile warranty. The test retrieve code P1744 for torque converter clutch performed, pressure dropping out of spec when warm checked fluid condition and found torque converter clutch damaged causing internal contamination and needs internal repairs. Being a single women at 72 years of age, and being a survivor of a near fatal accident in january of 2018, which took me 8 months to get back behind a wheel of a car i once again find myself feeling unsafe driving a car that just randomly loses power. After reading many complaints with the same existing problems as i am experiencing i am very concerned why this problem has not been a factory recall. Very unsafe when driving and you lose power. Hopefully a recall will be issued based on the many complaints that have been placed. The 1st dealership i visited in westborough ma had a wait time of 3 weeks to diagnose the problem.

2013 FORD FUSION with 84373.0 miles

While operating vehicle, check engine lite(s) 2 come up, code #P0741, torque convertor clutch and P1744, torque convertor cultch solenoid. Gas mileage has critically decreased from average of 34 mpg to 22 mpg. Engine temperature gauge indicates engine is running cool, radiator fan randomly comes on while vehicle is stopped but running. 3 Ford dealers have run computer diagnostics. Transmission periodically downshifts, makes a clunking sound. After operating for a few hours on long drives and upon passing a vehicle, warning message comes up, "vehicle loss of power" due to overheating. Cannot pass! This transmission as shown in data from consumer's report annual frequency of repair, 2013-present, has a high frequency of repair, also consumer complaints. Com. Transmission is mechanically flawed. Please initiate an investigation and generate a recall of this vehicle. Repair is very expensive.

2007 FORD ESCAPE with 110500. miles

While driving Escape at approx 70mph the overdrive sensor ses light came on and engine was making a whining noise. Stopped and borrowed a scan tool from a local garage we know. Codes P0741 and P1744 for tcc were found. Drove home approx 40 miles. Escape was shifting poorly after exiting expressway. Limped vehicle home. Next day 11/14/2020 attempted to take Escape to mechanic. Escape had total transmission failure after about 5 minutes. Odometer reads approx 110,500 miles Escape was towed to accurate transmission in bellevue, mi for possible repair. Diagnosis was that the vehicle needed a total rebuild of the transmission for $2900. Heard that some Ford Escapes were recalled for transmission issues and wondered about 2007 Ford Escape issues.

2001 FORD WINDSTAR with 121000. miles

I am in the process of trying to figure out what is going on. While driving on the interstate (with cruise control on) i noticed the od light started flashing and the check engine light came on. I pulled over and the brakes were smoking to the point i was afraid there would be a fire. I had to sit on the side of the road with my toddlers and wait for it to stop smoking. I was still about 20 miles from home. I am not someone who is fortunate enough to have family nearby or friends who could help. We are on a tight budget with a child who has special needs and only one working parent so could not afFord a tow. The 'check engine' light stayed on but the od was off upon starting the vehicle. The od came on 2x in the 20 miles it took to arrive. Each time it came on i pulled over, turned the van off and back on. When the od was flashing when i let off the accelerator, even on an incline, it was slowing me down so i figured the brakes were engaged. With the cruise control on i was unable to tell so i was pushing it up to 70mph with the brakes going against it. On the way home i did not use cruise control but it kept happening only it was very noticeable that the brakes were rubbing. There is now brake dust all over my tires and the side of the van. This could have caused an accident, this could have caused a fire! My daughter is disabled and in a complex child restraint system with straps and positioners. I also have a 1 yr old and if something had happened i am not confident i could have gotten them both out in time had a fire started. I need this van to carry my daughters wheel chair around. I am extremely irate. We bought this vehicle 3 months ago (second hand)!!!! Something needs to be done about this issue since i have read online that it is actually common!!! They are saying the code is P1744 torque converter clutch system stuck in off position. $3000 to fix!!!
SERVICE BRAKES,

1999 MAZDA 626 with 108000. miles

O/d light started flashing during a road trip. When i turned the car off and restarted, flashing light would stop. Shortly afterwards the engine light came on. We called the Mazda dealer where we bought the car and they advised that as long as the engine light was not flashing we were safe to drive the vehicle. If the o/d starting flashing again, cut-off/restart. They also advised us to go to autozone to get engine code and then call back. The engine code=P1744 and per the service tech at Mazda it meant that the tcc cylinoid was either stuck; hanging or needed to be replaced. We asked if we could drive the car home (300miles) - he told us yes but if the o/d light started flashing to cut-off/restart. He also said that if the engine light started flashing that we needed to stop and have the vehicle towed. The engine light disilluminated altogether. We were on the road approximately 1 hour when the o/d light started flashing. We stopped and saw smoke billowing from under the hood. When we lifted the hood transmission fluid was all over everything. We towed car to Mazda dealership. The service tech said that the transmission had overheated / purged the transmission fluid/ and burned some components in transmission which resulted in the need for the transmission to be replaced. Repair bill estimate = $2,900.00. This is a flaw or defect as the fail-safe components failed to operate properly in that the engine light never flashed to warn us and to the contrary the light disilluminated giving the false appearance of all things being well.

1998 LINCOLN CONTINENTAL with 109000. miles

I am one person among many that have been having many problems with the ford front wheel drive transmission. Bought my 98 Lincoln Continental with 97000 miles on it, at 109000 miles had to pay 2400 to have the transmission pulled and rebuilt. I'm 65 years old and have never even hit the passing gear. At 155000 miles it had to get pulled again. 1500 dollars at thst time. Now with 175000 miles on it the check transmission signal is on again. I did not until now do any code checks or internet search, but i do believe that ford knows they built a bad unit. Looking to find out if there have been any silent recalls or if your department has any information that could help me. My car is in mint condition and runs great except for the transmission. I remember reading that this problem was investigated or going to be looked at. Currently i get a P1744 code off the computer. I hope there is a silent recall or some info you may have that could help me.
UNKNOWN OR OTHER,

1997 FORD TAURUS

We bought this 97 Taurus with 56,816 miles on 3/17/99. A week later the engine check light came on. The dealer advised us to go to his mechanic and have it checked. The mechanic read a P1744 code, cleared the code, road-tested the car, and advised us to continue to drive, and see if it would reset or not. In the ongoing months engine check light came on three more times. There were no problems and the car was operating normally. These three times it was taken to the Ford dealership, the code cleared and we were sent on our way. The last time, however, we said that this problem has got to be solved! The Ford dealer said it could be many things, and would cost $63.00 to investigate. After investigation, the dealer said it was in the transmission valve body, approximately $750.00 to overhaul. The dealer was given the okay, and the end result was a $1,245 bill to replace the entire valve body and pump shaft. The needle bearing had failed and the pump shaft scored the bore in valve body. The car at the time of this repair 1/19/00 had 61,808 miles. This is a definite case of premature failure, caused probably by a manufacturing defect.*ak

1997 MAZDA 626

While driving 200 miles across state on sr 70 my o/d off light began to blink and my check engine light came on. I took it to the Mazda dealer that week and was told that i was having transmission failure and was told that codes P1744, P0741 & P1783 came up during a diagnostics test. I was told that i should have a transmission service and "wait and see" since my gears weren't slipping at the time. Last week during the same drive across state my o/d off light started blinking again, and this time while trying to pass a car on sr 70 (a 2 lane hwy) the transmission slipped as i was in the oncoming lane. Fortunately it kicked back in and i didnt have the problem again. (havent traveled since then) i took it back to Mazda and was told that they would pay for the transmission, (since i had called last month to complain that there was absolutely no reason why a car w/ 57k miles should have a failing transmission, unless ofcourse it was defective. They offered to pay for the trans, but i am still responsible for the labor and was offered no warranty. I have done a lot of research and have found that these 626 transmission chronically have this problem and i have found hundreds of complaints about it online. I can not believe it has not been recalled. Have not enough people complained, would it cost Mazda too much money or do they really believe that this is not a problem? Well as a single mother who relys on her car and still owes $12k on it, it is a problem. A big problem and i hope that corrective measures are taken. *ak
