P2172

Throttle Actuator Control System - Sudden High Air Flow Detected

DTC P2172, sometimes indicated as P217200 is an OBD diagnostic trouble code indicating a manufacturer-specific fault with the vehicle powertrain (i.e. engine and gearbox). This code identifies an error with the air/fuel mixture causing throttle actuator control system - sudden high air flow detected.

The DTC code P2172 is indicating that the throttle actuator control system has detected a sudden high air flow. This could be due to a number of factors such as a vacuum leak, an improperly seated air intake, or a defective throttle actuator.
If the code is being triggered due to a vacuum leak, then the most likely solution is to find and fix the leak. If the code is being triggered due to an improperly seated air intake, then the air intake may need to be properly seated. If the code is being triggered due to a defective throttle actuator, then the throttle actuator may need to be replaced.

Car turn off on its own error code P2172 U1428 maybe throttle body. Other Jeep have a recall on this but my vin isn’t included.
ENGINE,

2018 JEEP COMPASS with 6200.0 miles

Three times this has happened while driving. Slowing to stop at a light on a highway in heavy traffic. Slowing down at a stop sign on side street no traffic. Turn with acceleration off a heavy congested area to side road. No accident to report, but could have been a major one at the busiest intersection in town. The 3rd incident the check engine light came on. Had it read and code P2172 is throttle actuator control system. All 3 times were within 8 days.
ENGINE,

2016 DODGE DART with 5.0 miles

The car dies (stalls, doesn't run, etc.) while driving.. Or when stopped, or whenever it wants. It will restart and then drive for a while and then die again. The check engine light didn't even come on after several stalls but eventually it coded with P2172 which is "throttle actuator control system - sudden high airflow detected". The car is being towed (as of this writing) to the selling dealer larry miller Dodge in peoria az for service. Personal note: the manufacturer/dealer should buy this car back... It's had 2 recalls (one for the windshield wiper motor and another for the entire engine to be replaced) and already had the a/c replaced.
VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL,

2015 JEEP CHEROKEE with 63000.0 miles

Vehicle turned off on its own upon reaching 40mph and coming to a complete stop. Vehicle later turned off while on the highway at 65 mph in traffic while in the middle lane. This made the vehicle accelerator inoperable and at the same time made the vehicle lose speed slowing down while in traffic. Vehicle was nearly missed by passing vehicles and almost hit. Emergency lights came on as soon as the vehicle turned off. Vehicle was shifted to neutral to allow for steering wheel to not be so stiff. Finally i was able to pull over while the vehicle still had some type of momentum. I tried restarting the vehicle but the dashboard stated "please wait for vehicle to warm up to start.' i had to wait about 20 minutes until the vehicle was able to restart then acting normal. Check engine light came on. Upon revising the fault code P2172 appeared.
ELECTRONIC STABILITY CONTROL,

2015 CHRYSLER 200

While driving, my car will accelerate when depressing the brake. If cruise control is set to say 60 mph, the car will continue to accelerate well after the desired speed has been reached. When pressing the brake to disengage cruise control, the car will still try to accelerate for about 10 seconds, even while depressing the brake. I'm not sure if that is related to this, or if it is a separate issue, but my car will also stall out when coming to a stop or slowing down, especially if braking hard. When the engine stalls, power steering and braking are also lost. My car has stalled several times in the middle of intersections, on a busy highway coming to a red light or slowing down because of a hazard in front of me, and at stop signs. I also check my oil regularly, and do routine oil changes. When i check the oil, and when i have my oil changed, the oil level is almost always low, and has even been completely empty a couple times. I've confirmed that there is no leaking under the car. Sometimes i smell burnt oil coming from my car. I fill the oil up, and less than a month, and the oil is almost gone. More worrisome to me, is the fact that even though the oil was completely empty, my oil light never came on. So it was by luck that i checked the oil and noticed that it was empty because i wouldn't have otherwise known. My check engine light will come on from time to time, and i have it checked for the codes each time. The following are the codes that have shown up every single time: P2172; U1424; P106A
ENGINE, VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL POWER TRAIN

2015 CHRYSLER 200 with 107000 miles

The vehicle would cut off after starting & driving a very short distance then the check engine/flashing lightning bolt would come on. Once the car was off and then restarted, the lights would go off and it might run fine as long as you didn't accelerate too quickly & drove a good distance without having to stop and start a lot. The issue would arise more when driving short distances with constant stops & tight turns or sometimes when having to de-accelerate quickly. Once the car was off for a second then restarted, the only light that would sometimes stay on would be the check engine light. Therefore, i took the car to an o'reillys for a free test & the only codes that came back was P0302 - cylinder 2 misfire & P2172 - throttle actuator control system. The issue had gotten worse so i had a mechanic replace all 4 spark plugs with ngk iridium plugs and the 2nd cylinder ignition coil with a bosch ignition coil. The cylinder 2 misfire code went away when restarting the vehicle but the main issue persists, the car won't stay on & the P2172 tacs code is still present. The vehicle is unsafe & unable to drive. The date i'm using for the question of when the issue happened is when i had the spark plugs and ignition coil replaced. The original issue started around the 2nd week of december somewhere between december 10th-december 14th.

**i will continue to post until my issue is resolved** my 2015 Chrysler 200 limited has been experiencing the same thing as all other reports. 06/08/17 car turned off while driving and would not immediately turn back on. When it did it would sputter and then stall. 06/09/17. Check engine light came on code P2172 for throttle actuator control system and the car would not let me accelerate past 32 mph. One of the possible issues would be an open or short in the wire harness. This is something that is discussed in the r24 recall however, my vin is not on the list yet. This is an extremely unsafe vehicle and it needs to be addressed immediately. I'm confident that there are more than enough people to begin a class action suit. If i have to post on here again and add accident, injury, or death. The lawsuit will hold a very different meaning.
