Engine failure (with only 60k miles on it) while driving at 70mph within minutes of warning light saying 'drivetrain malfunction'. The engine shut off, car went into neutral and i had to manually steer and brake to get to the side of the freeway. Within minutes, the battery died, so i couldn't even put the car into neutral to get it onto the flatbed tow truck. I eventually was able to get it towed to the dealer where i bought it cpo in 2015 and have had it serviced (i had even had it serviced there 3 weeks before this incident). The engine had received the "customer care package" in 2015, and i've only had it serviced through bmw dealers. 3 days after i had the car towed to the dealer, the sa told me there was a complete engine failure and they would replace the engine. It's been there for 4 months now, waiting for a new engine, and the manager of the service department can't provide an estimate on when the new engine will arrive. I contacted bmw na, and they were also unable to tell me when a replacement engine could be expected. I'm not even sure i want a replacement engine that has the potential to fail again.
