• Recall 38613 [USA]: Temporary loss of abs braking could increase the risk of a crash.
  On certain motorcycles, under rapid, repeated, and unusually harsh braking, loss of abs capability could temporarily occur.
  dealers will add a physical restriction, in the form of a banjo bolt with a flow restrictor to the brake line, and on certain models dealers will install new front brake discs of a slightly larger thickness free of charge. • Recall 50738 [USA]: Loss of abs function could increase the risk of a crash during certain riding conditions.
  On certain motorcycles, if certain procedures are performed that involves removal of the front left brake caliper, the abs sensor cable can be routed incorrectly and when the caliper is reinstalled, the sensor cable can come into contact and rub against the front brake disc. Overtime, if the chafing becomes severe, it is possible to lose the abs function.
  dealers will attach additional retaining clips free of charge to the abs sensor cable, which will provide a more secure connection to the wheel carrier. The recall began on june 5, 2006, and will be a phased mailing through october 2006. Owners may contact bmw at 1-800-831-1117.

• Recall 35774 [USA]: Engine stalling, or a failure to start, could occur without prior warning. if stalling were to occur while the motorcycle was being driven, the rider would be unable to maintain speed or accelerate and a crash could occur without prior warning.
  On certain motorcycles, the defect involves a water leak around the fuel pump that is integrated within the fuel tank. An o-ring seal attached to the pump's electronic housing does not meet specifications and water can bypass this seal and contact the pump electronics.
  dealers will replace a sealing ring. If the fuel pump electronic unit is corroded, it will be replaced free of charge. The recall began may 9, 2005. Additional my 2005 r1200 gs motorcycles were added to this recall in december 2005. Owners of my 2005 motorcycles will receive a notification during february 2006 through august 2006. • Recall 2020437 [Canada]: Fuel supply
  Issue: on certain motorcycles, the fuel pump flange could crack. If this happens, fuel could leak while the engine is running. Note: this recall only affects motorcycles that did not have the fuel pump replaced under transport canada recall 2013-442. Safety risk: a fuel leak can create the risk of a fire. Corrective actions: bmw will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your motorcycle to a dealer to replace the fuel pump and auxiliary fuel pump (if equipped) with an improved version.

  Certain motorcycles with dealer installed accessory turn signals may not comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard (cvmss) 108 - lighting system and retroreflective devices. The size of the lens on the accessory turn signals may be too small, and therefore would not meet the requirements of the standard. This could reduce vehicle conspicuity to following and approaching road users, and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the accessory turn signals with factory indicators that meet the requirements of the standard.

  On certain motorcycles, the threaded holes on the rear wheel flange could crack if the wheel bolts are tightened beyond the specified torque limit during servicing. Over time, this could allow the bolts to back out of their threaded holes, causing the rear wheel to become loose. This could result in a loss of stability of the motorcycle, and increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the aluminum rear wheel flange with a steel flange.

  On certain motorcycles, if the hand protector is twisted out of position relative to the handlebar lever, to the extent that lever and protector come into contact, there is a possibility that the handlebar lever remain continuously in the partly operated position. This is turn can cause problems with the brake function and could increase the risk of a crash. Correction: owners will receive a loose-leaf insert as an addendum to the rider's manual and two stickers complete with the installation instructions, or owners may have their authorised bmw motorcycle dealers do the installations for them.

  Certain motorcycles fail to comply with the requirements of cmvss 108 - lamps, reflective devices and associated equipment. The front turn signals were installed in an improper location. As a result, the rider's intentions to turn may not be conveyed clearly to other road users, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury or death. Correction: dealers will replace the turn signal base.

  Certain motorcycles may have an incorrectly routed front anti-lock brake system (abs) sensor cable. If certain service procedures are performed, for example, a front tire change which involves removal of the front left brake caliper, it is possible for the abs sensor cable to be routed incorrectly when the caliper is reinstalled.   On certain motorcycles, moisture may penetrate the cavity underneath the electronic controller of the fuel pump. If this happens, the contacts of the controller's electric plug can become corroded, causing the fuel pump to fail. In this situation, the engine could shut off due to lack of fuel and subsequently losing propulsion to the rear wheel. Correction: dealers will replace the seal that protects the fuel pump electronics.

If this happens, movement of the throttle cable pulley can become restricted which could lead to difficult or imprecise throttle control.   On certain motorcycles, the o-ring seal between the integral anti-lock brake system (iabs) sensor and the rear axle housing may have been damaged during assembly and could develop a differential oil leak. Riding the bike slowly (about 40 kph) and braked heavily. Disintegration of rear wheel carrier (flange) on bmw gs1200 (2004) . This billet aluminum flange is the single component connecting the rear wheel with the motorcycle. And also the brake disk. The part broke apart under heavy braking and the brake disk detached, resulting in no rear wheel braking and damage to the abs unit. Critical failure will certainly result in serious injury or death. Bmw australia has been advised and offered no recourse to correct ro advise other owners. Abs module also failed, with an internal leak (possibly caused by pressure spike from flange disintegrating). Stress fracture on bmw gs1200 (2004) rear wheel attachment flange. This billet aluminum flange is the single component connecting the rear wheel with the motorcycle. Critical failure will certainly result in serious injury. Bmwna indicate that this is a normal wear item and offer no recourse to correct. *tr

I have a 2007 bmw r1150 gs motorcycle with a failing sight glass. It has not melted, but has a white halo around the outside edge which indicates overheating of the sight glass. Action number on this issue is pe07031.

Final drive seal blew out after only 30k miles. *jb
