• Recall 41992 [USA]: Either circumstance may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning.
  On certain passenger vehicles, the floor shifter ignition-park interlock may fail and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. An inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position.

  Vehicle description: passenger vehicles built with 3.5l engines. The fuel injection delivery system can leak fuel from some of the sealing o-rings or from hair line cracks in the thermoset fuel injection rail.
  dealers will replace the fuel rail o-rings and reinforce the outlet (passenger) side fuel rail. Vehicles showing fuel leakage on the outlet fuel rail must have the outlet rail replaced which includes changing the upper and lower injector o-rings. However, if a vehicle is leaking fuel from the o-rings or from a cracked fuel line, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible.

  On certain vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and a floor-mounted shifter, the ignition-park interlock may become defeated and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. An inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position. This may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning. Correction: dealer will inspect the function of the ignition-park interlock system. Vehicles found with functional interlock systems will have a load-limiting push rod installed into the floor shifter lever. Vehicles with a non-functional ignition-park interlock system will have the shifter assembly replaced.

  On certain vehicles, the lower control arm attaching brackets may crack due to fatigue and cause the lower control arm to separate from the engine cradle. If this occurs, the transmission half-shaft may pull out of the transaxle and result in a loss of motive power, increasing the risk of a motor vehicle accident. Correction: engine cradle will be reinforced at the point of attachment to the lower control arm.

• Fuel rail, brake fluid, chassis investigation as of 20041013

  On september 5, 2004, mr. Robert galenty of iselin, nj, petitioned the agency to conduct defect investigations of certain model year (my) 1993-1997 vehicles produced by daimlerchrysler corporation.His petition identified three issues of concern: 1) fuel leaking from the fuel injector rails; 2) brake fluid contamination resulting in brake failure; and 3) susceptibility of the vehicle frame to damage while the vehicle is being towed.Mr. Galanty alleged that his 1996 dodge intrepid had each of these three problems.Concerning fuel rail leakage, daimlerchrysler commenced a recall (98v-184) of approximately 722,600 vehicles to address engine fuel rail leaks that could lead to a fire, including those vehicles cited in the petition and the petitioners 1996 dodge intrepid.On october 7, 1998, nhtsa opened a recall query investigation (rq98-018) to evaluate the adequacy of the recall remedy.That investigation was closed on july 8, 2002 without requiring further action by daimlerchrysler.Very recently, on june 9, 2004, nhtsa denied a petition (rp04-001) to reopen rq98-018 after finding that there was no new information that would indicate any basis for reopening it.This is still the current position of nhtsa on this issue.Concerning brake fluid contamination and frame alignment, a review of nhtsas database shows no other complaints on either one of these issues on the vehicles cited in the petition.

• Auto trans ignition-park interlock investigation as of 20030717

  The manufacturer reports above are based on daimlerchrysler¿s (dc) analysis of model year (my) 1998 (population = 356,384) and 1999 (population = 486,948) ja, jx and lh family subject vehicle data (earlier mys excluded).The population number includes all mys.The precise number of duplicates between odi and dc reports cannot be determined due to missing or incomplete information.The fatality incident involved an elderly person who attempted to stop a roll away vehicle and received fatal injuries.Odi also gathered information on my 1997-99 prowler vehicles in this investigation. The prowler vehicles were manufactured with a different design shifter mechanism (the shift lever is shorter).There are no complaints of prowler interlock failure in odi¿s database, and dc has received no reports either.The prowler is excluded from the recall scope.The investigation involved a condition where the interlock system could fail (or be made inoperative by the operator) during vehicle use, possibly inadvertently.The interlock system is required under fmvss 114.With the transmission in the park position and the ignition key off, the combined action of pressing the shift button and pulling the shift lever rearward may result in the operator overcoming the interlock system and cause the mechanical linkage of the system to disconnect.When this occurs, there is no overt indication to an operator that the system is defeated, and an increased risk of vehicle roll-away exists.Under recall 04v021, dc will replace damaged shift mechanisms, and will install on all vehicles a device which inhibits the operator¿s ability to overcome the interlock and defeat the system.Beginning with my 2000, dc incorporated a brake and transmission shifter interlock (btsi) system into the subject vehicles.Introduction of btsi involved design changes to the shift mechanism, one of which resulted in reduced mechanical advantage (rma) of the shift button.The rma shifter requires increased forces to overcome the interlock system, making the shifter less susceptible to damage.

  Mr. Larry a. Sackey submitted a petition to the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) by letter dated april 18, 2003, requesting that nhtsafurther investigate the "defective collapsible steering shaft system" on 1987-1995 vehicles manufactured by the daimlerchrysler corporation.In part because of 49 cfr ? 30120(g), nhtsa has decided to limit the scope of the petition vehicles to 1993-1995 models, excluding the 1993 jeep grand cherokee and 1994-1995 dodge ram series trucks that were recalled (93v210 & 96v230) for steering column failure.If the analysis of these vehicles had identified a potential problem, the scope could have been expanded in an investigation.A review of odis data base shows no recent complaints and a lack of a complaint trend concerning the subject issue on the subject vehicles as a whole or by individual models.Therefore, the petition is denied.For details, see federal register notice volume 68, no. 130, july 8, 2003.

Recall 790 was preformed in 1999, (a patch was installed on a fuel rail). March of 2016 the fuel rail began leaking and i took the car to a former chrysler repair garage, (graft, scottdale, pa 724-887-7800) where they found the recall patch failed and i had to have a new fuel rail installed. The service manager, [xxx] informed me i should contact chrysler since the recall repair of 1999 failed and apply for reimbursement. I contacted chrysler and they told me despite the repair of 1999 failing this year recalls have an expiration! That is not true according to multiple dealers i've contacted. The repairs for the faulty fuel rail cost me $366.00 and chrysler refuses to assist. I can be reached at [xxx]....[xxx]. In a "panic stop " situation the abs controller modulated and reduced very significantly the braking effort when the driver slammed on the brakes on dry pavement. While braking the driver also maneuvered into the k rail to reduce speed and almost avoided a collision. The air bags did not deploy and were not needed as the final crash was at low speed.

Rusted brake lines caused brake system to fail. *tr

Tl* the contact owns a 1995 chrysler concorde. While attempting to turn the steering wheel, the contact heard a loud pop as the steering wheel started spinning uncontrollably. After inspection, he noticed that the tie rod bolt was fractured on the steering rack. Neither the dealer nor the manufacturer was notified of the failure nor was the vehicle diagnosed or repaired. The current and failure mileages were 130,931. The vin was unavailable.

Transmission failure, i read that chrysler had a recall on transmissions for the 95 chrysler concorde, due to shifting problems, my 95 chrysler concorde, drove fine and then suddenly stopped, if i shut off the engine, then restart it, it will drive, until it tries to shift to second then it will not drive anymore, at all, until i shut it off and then restart it, then it will immediately drive again. I was told by a mechanic that it is most likely a solenoid shift pack, which was recalled by chrysler. *tr

My vehicle does not change into second gear. I found out while i was in heavy traffic and became a hazard to other drivers. When in reverse, it has a "clunk" noise when the gas is applied. The problem came all of a sudden without warning. There are also computer and ignition problems with this vehicle. It sounds like there is crackling in the dashboard when the heater is on, the ignition switch cannot be turned all the way to the on position when the car is on or the abs light will come on and prevents function of the heater. *tr

My wife was driving our 1995 chrysler concorde when she lost total steering control while making a left hand turn causing car to go over curb damaging a sign at the warren public library and significant damage to the car. Upon inspection, it has been found that the tie rod linkage into the rack and pinion had broken off. *tr

1995 chrysler concorde with approximately 122,000 miles became unsafe to drive due to excessive play in the steering/an inability to control the car. The dealer identified the problem as inner tie rod bushings. Within the same week, the driver's seat belt came unbolted from the car. *tr

Tl* - the contact called regarding a 1995 chrysler concorde. The contact stated that exiting a ramp at 10-15 mph the tie rod bolts fell off the steering system. The contact stated he had no steering and the wheels would not turn. The contact pulled over to the side of the road. He had a small bolt and put it in the steering system and was able to drive the vehicle home at 3 mph. The contact took the vehicle to the chrysler dealer and was told the vehicle needed a new rack and pinion. The contact call the chrysler corporate office ,and was told there was a recall on the steering. However, because the vehicle had over 36,000 miles they would not repair it for free. *ak updated 03/07/07. *jb

Dt*: the contact stated there was fuel on the engine and the vehicle was taken to the dealership. The dealership determined the fuel rail cracked. There is a nhtsa recall, # 98v184000, regarding the fuel injection system. The vehicle had the same problem as indicated in the recall; however, it is not included in the recall due to the vin. Updated 02/28/06. *jb

1995 chrysler concorde steering failure. Replaced tie rods twice. Driving was a safety hazard because of lack of steering control. *jb

Total brake failure-----dual brake system failure ------- due to corrosion of metal brake lines leading to the rear of vehicle in the area of the gas tank. Both hydraulic brake lines developed a leak at the same time due to a bracket (dis-similar metals) trapped moisture against the brake lines. Both brake lines were rusted from the outside inward at the same the same location. Original owner, not located near water, never underwater, normal driving use. Replace brake lines. Parts available. *jb

1995 concorde, when pressing on the gas pedal it felt as though it was stuck. Consumer then pulled off the side of the road and put vehicle in park after attempt to stop car and vehicle was still racing while in park. *ts the consumer felt as though she had no control of the vehicle. The dealer replaced the auto idle, but they could not guarantee that the problem would not happen again. *jb

Dt: contact states the gear shift is hard to put into gear. There is a grinding noise coming from the motor. A mechanic said the gears broke and the transmission had to be rebuilt. Consumer did have the transmission rebuilt. The consumer did not have the purchase date or the dealer information available. *ak

Severe handling problem enormouse amout of play in steering

Dt: problem began on 6/2/05 as owner was driving the electric gauges all went to zero, and then they shut off. Then, there was a smell of burning wire. It blew fuses connected to the gauges and the radiator. The travel center was disconnected. There was a place on the inside of the travel center where it was evident that it had burned. No prior problems with vehicle and vehicle was regularly serviced.*ak

On oct. 31, 2003 i purchased a 1995 chrysler concorde. Within 6 months i had to replace the steering bushings. On jan 26, 2005 i was driving with my family on interstate 40, when i noticed alot of play in the steering and some veering off to the left. I immediately got off the highway almost side swiping a semi as a result of the loose steering and veering. I made it 3 miles before the steering went out completely with my tires facing opposite directions. The chrysler dealer where i purchased this certified pre-owned car has estimated the cost of repair to my rack and pinion to be over $2,000. This is not the first of the chrysler 1993-1999 lh steering problems! I was lucky as was my wife, 4year old son and 9 month old baby!! If i had not noticed the change in my steering, i and my family would have been injured at the very least. Please do not discount this very dangerous and repeating problem because noone has died yet. Is that really a chance we should be taking?*ak

While parking in reverse gear, the vehicle lurch forward. Please provide more information.

While driving at 35 mph driver's side seat bracket broke and the seat declined backwards. This reduced the driver's visibility. Consumer was able to maintain control of the vehicle, and pulled off the road. The seat was propped up with a wooden block. The bracket hasn't been replaced thus far. *ak

1995 chrysler concorde will stall while driving down the road. It is an automatic transmission. If you put the car in neutral and turn off the ignition, the car will start again in a few seconds. This happens at any speed, accelerating, decelerating and it was impossible to up a hill whithout the car stalling. We replaced the catalytic converter, and muffler - which we were told were the cause. This worked for about 2 weeks - then the problem started again. Now the car wont even start.*ak

My 1995 chrysler concorde with 3.3-litre v6 engine. Vin#[xxx] the engine shuts off during driving. Sometimes the engine restarts on its own immediately while coasting after it shuts off. Sometimes i have to pull off the road and wait a couple of minutes for it to restart. It has been happening about once or twice a week. The local dealership could not diagnose the problem, and at $85/hour diagnostic time, i am reluctant to bring it to them again. Most recently this happened on june 23, 2004. On that day, while driving, the first time time the engine shut down and restarted by itself, the second time later in the day, the engine shut down and i had to restart it a few minutes later. Consumer stated that ever since she had her vehicle, she experienced numerous problems. She stated that she had to replace the engine, and the transmission. She also stated that now she it needed another transmission. Also, she was told by her mechanic that the crank shift is going bad. Currently she isn't driving the vehicle. *la

Inner tie rod bushings failed in 2000. Dealers refused to replace under ext. Warranty. Now 4 years later, they are worn out again and require replacement. *ak

The automatic tranmission floor shifter ignition-park interlock has completly malfunction on this car, for my own saftey and the saftey of others i cannot drive it when the inter-lock is drive it starts rolling backwards when i stop at a traffic light i feels this could be very dangerous.*mr

We are now about to put in our 3rd 95 cirrus transmission and 2nd 95 concorde transmission and feel that chrysler should pay for the cost of repairs. I have shelled out nearly $12,000 between the two cars in the last 6 years for repeated failures in engines, water pumps, steering assembly failures, transmissions, brake systems, radios, air conditioners, fuel rails, alternators and computer pcm's to name a few. By far the worst quality cars and highest cost of ownership of any cars i have owned in the last 30 years. Something major goes wrong with these cars every few months.

We bought the car & 2 months later, transmission goes out.

When making a left turn consumer heard a "snap" noise. The steering wheel turned freely but the wheels would not turn. The vehicle was taken to an independent repair shop. The mechanic stated the problem was with the bushing behind the engine. *ak

Consumer stated the brake pads fell off vehicle and caused the consumer to crash. The dealer was notified. *ak the brake failure was traced to the inner pads on each of the front wheels. Each brake pad that fell off was located near where each of the front wheels would be while the vehicle was parked in the driveway. The consumer was unable to stop the vehicle which crashed into his house. The brake failure was due to the rivets coming out of the countersinks holding the pads into place. *scc *jb

While driving at 70mph on the hwy vehicle shutdown, forcing the driver to pull out the road. Dealer notified that head gasket broke. Please provide further information.*ak

The instrument panel on 1995 concorde went dead, no activity since 2003. Chrysler dealership does not know how to fix the problem. Currently i am trying to sell the car and cannot. Vehicle pulled into driveway and steering separated from the front wheel and collapsed. Consumer was just driving between 50-60mph before reaching the destination. Mechanic found a bolt connected to steering and wheel had busted.*ak

Car has been totaled. It appeared to be in perfect condition before the sudden incident. I want to know if a recalled component may have been responsible for the sudden acceleration and loss of control. Auto also hit 2 parked cars and lifted a rock (approx. 500 lbs) out of the ground during the accident. The drivers door locked on its own, while the front passenger door flew open on its own. The automatic windows blewout during the incident. This incident occurred while backing out of a parking space at low speed. Mechanical defect is most likely the cause. Please investigate.*ak

Torque converter and reverse gear broke without any warning or symptoms, there were metal chips throughout the transmission, consumer is requesting reimbursement, since the failure happened at such low mileage. *yh

Outer tie rod replaced 02/01after noticing severe handling problem. Inner tie rod replaced 05/01 after noticing different,but equally sever handling problem. Mechanics said this is a common problem on this model as well as dodge intrepid.D. *ak

Water pump failed, timing belt failed, tensioner and pulley failed, additionally, a bolt which holds the rear timing cover in place snapped.

When appyling brakes engine vibrates, and sometimes vehicle will stall. Consumer took vehicle to a mechanic, and he said engine bolts were broken, and needed to be replaced. Please provide any further information.*ak

Vehicle was parked at home and noticed a wet spot on ground. When she pulled hood noticed that there was anti freeze spread all over engine and wires. This was third water pump replaced . The dealership was aware of problem.*ak

While traveling on snow covered road driver went off road doing about 15mph, and neither airbag deployed. *ak consumer states the vehicle landed in a ditch front end first, the left front frame bent and vehicle was totaled. *slc

At first inside tie rod rubbers wore out, always made noise most time in cold weather,then right side outer rod end pulled out causing lose of steering,if you look at it ,it is rusted away the threads that is. *ak

The drivers side power seat broke. The bracket holding up the back of the seat cracked and eventually split in half, causing the seat back to fall to the back seat. This problem has been recalled on 93 and 94 models, and chrysler refuses to admit there is a problem with 95 models. Even though alldata.Com states that the problem has been found on 93 and 94 models the same day that it has been found on 95 models, still there is no recall. The part was on backorder for 9 months, still no recall, how many people have to have this problem, and if someone has this problem and gets into an accident, the possibility of a fatal injury has to be greatly increased. Why won't chrysler admit this? The problem is with the bottom bracket power drivers side seat.

There is no protective cover on light in trunk. Light has burned two layers of blankets. *ak while loading and unloading the light bulb become hot and burned consumer's clothing. The consumer was suggesting that a shield should be installed to prvent this from happening. *yh

While normal driving, suddenly cruise control turns on, and the vehicle won't speed up even if i press gas pedal; the vehicle slows down and finally stops. It happened about 3 times before november this year(between 100,000miles and 124,000miles) and 2 times out of 4 long distance drivings(about 50 miles) this month. *ak

While driving vehicle will shutter when gears are changed or will stick in second gear.Contacted dealer.*ak

Trunk had been opened and remained so for approx. 45 min. Light in rear windshield melted, dropped hot material onto contents of trunk, and caught on fire. Contents all ruined, trunk interior scorched, burned, and wiring melted. Inside, rear dash carpet burned, rear window (with defogger) burned badly, upper tailight completely melted, leather seat ruined from heat and smoke, leather hardened, condition of speaker system is unknown at this time, entire interior filled with damaging smoke particles. This was a non-smoking vehicle due to respiratory sensitivity of driver/owner. Damage estimate incomplete due to wiring trace not yet completed.*ak

Consumer was traveling about 25mph, she applied brakes to veer over to another lane, and vehicle started slowing down. When she applied the brakes, car stopped. Vehicle wouldn't turn over at all. Vehicle was towed to repair shop. *ak

Vehicle suddenly accelerated while changing gears from reverse to drive. Last incident caused a three car collision while in the parking lot. There were no injuries. Dealer/manufacturer were not notified at this time. Feel free to provide any further details. *ak

At highway speeds transmission would not shift gears. Dealer has replace transmission.*ak

Burnt fluid is noted on the repair sheet. Dealer was no help at all so went to indep trans. Repair shop. This seems to be a problem with chrysler autos from research i've done on-line and with talking to fred's transmission and clutch [(219)266-2144]. They claim that they constantly get chrysler's in for transmission failures at about the same mileage as mine. Was told that chrysler used poor equipment in the original transmissions. On three separate occasions the air conditioner quit cooling first two times dealer could not find coolant leak. On the second recharge of the cooling system the dealer added a leak detection dye to the system so if it quit working again it would be easyer to find leak. Transmission stopped functioning at 65 mph. Vehicle was towed to salem chrysler/plymouth in dayton, ohio. Tow truck driver reported that the dealership had five other concordes in for service with the same problem. Service manager at dealership would only acknowledge that they have had "some problems" with transmissions in the concorde line, but was quick to point that my vehicle was out of warranty. A salesman at another chrysler dealership in ohio was advised of my breakdown without any reference to the vehicle, when he responded, " what does he have, a 95 or 96 concorde?". This seems to be a known problem among chrysler dealerships.

I had all recommended servicing done at bothun's (eau claire) on 3-16-99 including transmission fluid change. They reported no problems with the transmission at that date. Within the month i began having difficulty getting the car into reverse. It would shift erratically or not at all. I called bothun on 4-16-99 as problems got worse. They examined the car 4-19-99 and told me the transmission pump/transmission was leaking badly and needed replacing. Chrysler customer service offered to pay 75% of the cost after bothun's contacted them about the repair. I was not willing to pay for the repair as i felt it was a premature failure of the transmission with the car having fewer than 50,000 miles. I agreed to have the work done and pay 25% since i need the car,but i feel that chrysler should pay the rest of the bill. It does not seem normal wear and tear for this to happen in a 1995 car with low mileage and good care. My portion of the bill was $433.36 which i would like reimbursed.

Air conditioning not holding a charge. Car was brought to professional air conditioning shop system evacuated and a dye put in with the freon. The technichan informed me right away that the chrysler corporation has had defects in these systems since day one but will not admit to it. He said that practically every concorde, intrepid, cirrus, jeep that comes in either leaks in one of the three system, evaporator, condensor, dryer. Chrysler charges $950.00 to replace the evaporator!!!! I can't afford that cost and will lose substantial money on the sale of the vehicle without a proper working air conditioning system.

I am an insurance adjuster. When the failure was found (leaking fluid down the inner apron and rail ) i checked for a used assy. Since i am out of warranty. Of 2 units i had shipped out i found the same stress fracture on both in the same location. The crack is on the left side of the tank at the mounting point projection. Tank is held in place by a tab on the bottom and 1 bolt into the top/side bracket. I think this could be a oem problem and could lead to steering failure or possible fire. Problem seems to start with the transmission clunking then eventually you will start to hear a popping noise in your front end, coming from the tie rod. Thought this was a suspension problem but took to dealer the first time and they replaced my brakes and serviced transmission. Cluncking noise still existed when you let off the gas and the slightly accellerated. Turns out the tie rod, transmission mount and axle were to blame. Can't tell you about the axle as they told me they would replace but did not show up on repair. I know that there seems to be serious problem with the drive train and suspension in the car. As for the dip stick, the heat created by the engine is cooking the plastic in the colored dipstick to the point it just falls apart. I recently had the tie rod and transmission mount replaced and now have a much worse cluncking noise the same day of the replacement...Can i get some help as i feel this car is a serious problem waiting to happen..

Fuel smell and leakage under the hood. Leakage takes place while car is running. Two dealers new exactly what problem was without even looking at the car. They said they see 2 or 3 concordes or lhs per month with the same problem. They told me there was a recall for the 3.3 engine (for which they have not seen any problems) but on the 3.5 they see them often. The 3.5 has no current recall. Why? The leakage and smell continues to get worse.

We took the car to the dealer to have a transmission line leak fixed (replacement of the line). We alos smelled a gasoline smell when starting the car in the morning. The dealer informed us that there was also a fuel leak in a line on the engine. The delaer told us that the line needed to be replaced or it could cause a fire. We let them have the vehicle and they said it would be fixed in a week. Three weeks later we were still without the car; the delaer told us that chrysler was not supplying the original factory part for replacement because the part was apparently being redesigned. We asked why an original factory part could not be installed; they said it could, but that the part might not work and we might risk a fire. Chrysler did not charge for the part, but we were out of us of the car for about 3 weeks.
