  • Recall 41982 [USA]: Either circumstance may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning.
    On certain passenger vehicles, the floor shifter ignition-park interlock may fail and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. An inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position.
    dealers will install a new load-limiting push rod into the floor shifter lever of the affected vehicles. Owner notification began on june 14, 2004. Owners should contact daimlerchrysler at 1-800-853-1403.

  • Recall 14268 [USA]: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
    Vehicle description: passenger vehicles built with 3.5l engines. The fuel injection delivery system can leak fuel from some of the sealing o-rings or from hair line cracks in the thermoset fuel injection rail.
    dealers will replace the fuel rail o-rings and reinforce the outlet (passenger) side fuel rail. Vehicles showing fuel leakage on the outlet fuel rail must have the outlet rail replaced which includes changing the upper and lower injector o-rings. However, if a vehicle is leaking fuel from the o-rings or from a cracked fuel line, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible.

  • Recall 2004003 [Canada]: Other
    On certain vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and a floor-mounted shifter, the ignition-park interlock may become defeated and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. An inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position. This may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning. Correction: dealer will inspect the function of the ignition-park interlock system. Vehicles found with functional interlock systems will have a load-limiting push rod installed into the floor shifter lever. Vehicles with a non-functional ignition-park interlock system will have the shifter assembly replaced.

  • Recall 1998167 [Canada]: Fuel supply
    Note: vehicles equipped with 3.5 litre engine. The fuel injection delivery system may leak fuel from some of the sealing "o-rings" or from hairline cracks in the thermoplastic fuel injection rail. In the presence of an ignition source such a condition could result in a fire. Correction: the nitrile rubber "o-rings" will be replaced with "o-rings" made of an improved material. The fuel rail will also be evaluated and replaced as required.

Known Recall Investigations
  • Fuel rail, brake fluid, chassis investigation as of 20041013

    On september 5, 2004, mr. Robert galenty of iselin, nj, petitioned the agency to conduct defect investigations of certain model year (my) 1993-1997 vehicles produced by daimlerchrysler corporation.His petition identified three issues of concern: 1) fuel leaking from the fuel injector rails; 2) brake fluid contamination resulting in brake failure; and 3) susceptibility of the vehicle frame to damage while the vehicle is being towed.Mr. Galanty alleged that his 1996 dodge intrepid had each of these three problems.Concerning fuel rail leakage, daimlerchrysler commenced a recall (98v-184) of approximately 722,600 vehicles to address engine fuel rail leaks that could lead to a fire, including those vehicles cited in the petition and the petitioners 1996 dodge intrepid.On october 7, 1998, nhtsa opened a recall query investigation (rq98-018) to evaluate the adequacy of the recall remedy.That investigation was closed on july 8, 2002 without requiring further action by daimlerchrysler.Very recently, on june 9, 2004, nhtsa denied a petition (rp04-001) to reopen rq98-018 after finding that there was no new information that would indicate any basis for reopening it.This is still the current position of nhtsa on this issue.Concerning brake fluid contamination and frame alignment, a review of nhtsas database shows no other complaints on either one of these issues on the vehicles cited in the petition.

  • Auto trans ignition-park interlock investigation as of 20030717

    The manufacturer reports above are based on daimlerchrysler¿s (dc) analysis of model year (my) 1998 (population = 356,384) and 1999 (population = 486,948) ja, jx and lh family subject vehicle data (earlier mys excluded).The population number includes all mys.The precise number of duplicates between odi and dc reports cannot be determined due to missing or incomplete information.The fatality incident involved an elderly person who attempted to stop a roll away vehicle and received fatal injuries.Odi also gathered information on my 1997-99 prowler vehicles in this investigation. The prowler vehicles were manufactured with a different design shifter mechanism (the shift lever is shorter).There are no complaints of prowler interlock failure in odi¿s database, and dc has received no reports either.The prowler is excluded from the recall scope.The investigation involved a condition where the interlock system could fail (or be made inoperative by the operator) during vehicle use, possibly inadvertently.The interlock system is required under fmvss 114.With the transmission in the park position and the ignition key off, the combined action of pressing the shift button and pulling the shift lever rearward may result in the operator overcoming the interlock system and cause the mechanical linkage of the system to disconnect.When this occurs, there is no overt indication to an operator that the system is defeated, and an increased risk of vehicle roll-away exists.Under recall 04v021, dc will replace damaged shift mechanisms, and will install on all vehicles a device which inhibits the operator¿s ability to overcome the interlock and defeat the system.Beginning with my 2000, dc incorporated a brake and transmission shifter interlock (btsi) system into the subject vehicles.Introduction of btsi involved design changes to the shift mechanism, one of which resulted in reduced mechanical advantage (rma) of the shift button.The rma shifter requires increased forces to overcome the interlock system, making the shifter less susceptible to damage.

Both the driver and passenger suffered first degree burns to both feet. This was the first occurrence of the failure. The vehicle was towed to the dealer for a diagnosis of the failure. My vehicle, driven by my step son, crossed the median, spun around and slammed backwards into a power pole. He hit with enough force to push the rear bumper and the trunk in almost 3 feet and yet the air bag didn't deploy. The sudden stop broke the front seat loose from the floor and ripped his glasses off his head and flung them into the back window. Fortunately he had his seat belt on, or the recoil would have sent him the forward momentum from the recoil would have sent him through the front window. Still the air bag did not deploy. The accident is still under investigation and it is unclear whether he was unconscious for a brief period of time from the accident.

I have experienced alot of play in the steering of my chrysler concorde 1997. After inspection it was found that the front cradle bushings where worn away. I have owned this car for 2 years. I have a 1997 chrysler concord. I had a severe clunking noise in front end. After several trips to the garage and almost $1000 later i had replaced both inner tie rod ends, all 4 cradle bushings as well as both swaybars in front end. Not to mention front end alignments after each repair. Then my left tie rod had to be replaced again within a bout a month. The problem was eventually fixed and noise stopped until now. Six months later i'm experiencing the same noises and a lose tie rod again. I have seen all the complaints about chrysler and note that they don't include the 1997 model as having these problems but i do with my 97 concord. I have 2 children that ride in my vehicle and this is really unsafe. If the tierods break or come lose you can't steer the car. This problem really needs to be addressed by chrysler and fixed. *tr

The contact stated the vehicle was included in the recall under nhtsa campaign id number: 98v184000 (fuel system, gasoline:fuel injection system) and the vehicle was repaired. Eight years after the vehicle was repaired she noticed fuel leaking from the vehicle while it was parked. The contact stated fuel would also leak while driving. The vehicle was taken an independent mechanic who stated the fuel injector system was leaking and the o-ring needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. When i would place the automatic transmission in reverse on my 1997 chrysler concorde the gas pedal would stick and accelerate at a rapid rate. The only way that i could stop the acceleration was by placing both on the brake and turning the key off. Dave dennis chrysler dealer in dayton, oh., verified this. They found that the cradle bushings were bad which caused the motor to move and hit the throttle which caused the motor to rev. Up in gear. They replaced the cradle bushings and i have had no trouble since. I consider this to be a safety issue. The mechanic at the chrysler dealer stated that worn cradle bushings were a common problem with k frames used on chryslers. I can't be the only person who has experienced this problem due to cradle bushings wear. *nm

I finally figured out myself where the leak was in the engine and pointed it out to a repair man. (2) this repair man told me it definitely was leaking and if i let it go any longer there would certainly be an engine fire. I went to credit cars to purchase a vehicle kind-of last minute. Their salesman "alfredo" told me i needed some one to sign for "job liability." i told him i did not have nor want a co-signer. When i drove my car off the lot, credit cars and i had an agreement to fix the non-operating gages. They attempted to fix them 4 times.(1 at credit cars, 3 at cal-rich automotive) after 4 attempts and no luck, thomas from credit cars told me to fix the 2 problems with my own money, and because it was electrical he didn't have to fix it. We had an agreement before i bought the car. (the 2nd problem was i opened my sunroof once and it never closed again.) because of the sunroof not closing my upholstery molded and was ruined. First, it started out with the cracked fuel rail problem which cost us over 900.00 to remedy and ever since we have had nothing but problems with it not wanting to idle so we replaced the idle contol at the cost of over 60.00 which still hasn't fixed the issue. I drove approx 4 miles to my mothers residence which was on the way to work.. At that hour i must depend and rely on the safety of my vehicle. Thank goodness my mother lives on the way to my job 55 miles from my residence. When i drove it to the dealership at approx. 7am (when they open) the gentleman behind the counter said it probably wasn't a hose, ( which i thought because of the coolant loss and over heating) but instead a water pump because it is so common in that make of vehicle. This disturbs me because if he knew immediately what it was because of so many repairs why not a recall on the part? $:30 am is a scarry time to break down on a major highway. I paid for the repairs because i need my vehicle for transportation to and from work. It was 197.60 for labor, 1.60 for a seal, 11.60 for coolant, and 94.50 for the pump,15.00 misc charge, and 7.36 in tax total was 327.66. I do have the part and the receipt of the bill if you need it . I did not receive my car back untill 6pm i was told it took so long because i didn't have an appointment. I wish i could plan and make appointments for emergencies.

Booster seat tether strap anchor was installed to the left of the "third" light located in the middle of the deck lid - by the dealer i bought the car from - yesterday, 2/5/02. This would cause the booster seat tether strap to rest at an angle when hooked to the anchor. Dealer says the anchor was installed where chrysler instructed them. Contacted chrysler and they referred me back to the dealer and suggested i get a second opinion from another chrysler dealer. Contacted nhtsa rep. And he said that the tether strap anchor should be installed directly behind the booster seat so that the tether strap rests in a straight line. Help! I'm getting the runaround and all i want to do is ensure i've met all the safety requirements for my daughter should we ever get in an accident. The tether strap anchor is still installed - at an angle to the booster seat and i will leave it that way as proof until someone contacts me with instructions/contacts of what i should do next. Right now my daughter is still using the harness within her booster seat so we have time until she reaches a point where the tether strap is absolutely necessary. *ak
