  Curt mfg is recalling certain class 3 receiver hitches, p/n 13347, sold as aftermarket equipment for use on 1997-2007 chrysler town and country vans, 1996-2007 dodge caravans, and 1996-2004 plymouth voyager vans. When the hitch is loaded to the maximum rating, the hitch may fracture or break at the bend location where the main body of the hitch meets the hitch muffler strap.

  Certain curved tempered replacement glass manufactured by hangzhou safety glass ltd and supplied to safelite by auto temp inc., identified as dot-430, and sold for use on certain domestic and foreign vehicles may not break into small pieces as expected of tempered glass and fails to conform to federal motor vehicle safety standard no. 205, "glazing materials."

• Recall 59327 [USA]: Loss of brake fluid can lead to a decrease in brake line pressure and an increase in stopping distance, which can result in a vehicle crash.
  Certain aftermarket brake hydraulic master cylinders sold as replacement brake cylinders for certain ford, daimlerchrysler, and jeep passenger vehicles. These brake cylinders were sold under the brand names of napa, raybestos, aimco, ac delco, carquest, bendix, and wagner. Only products that were manufactured from july 27, 2005 through january 17, 2006 (date codes 0529 through 0602) are subject to this recall. When subject to very cold temperatures, an internal seal in the master cylinder could lose flexibility and may cause brake fluid to leak.

• Recall 41120 [USA]: This condition will manifest itself through illumination of the air bag warning lamp, and could eventually result in a driver's air bag open circuit, if the part is not replaced in a reasonable amount of time.
  On certain minivans, the driver's air bag may become disabled due to a failure of the clockspring, which is located in the hub of the steering wheel.
  dealers will replace the clockspring assembly on all covered vehicles with 70,000 miles or less. For those vehicles with more than 70,000 miles, daimlerchrysler will offer an extended lifetime warranty under which it will replace the clockspring at no charge if it fails. Daimlerchrysler will also reimburse owners who have paid to have the clockspring replaced on their vehicles. The recall began on october 12, 2004. • Recall 5404 [USA]: Fuel leakage in the presence of an ignition source can result in a fire.
  Vehicle description: mini vans built with 3.3l and 3.8l engines have fuel rails with nitrole rubber o-ring seals that can degrade over time. Fuel leakage from the underhood fuel injection fuel rail could result, increasing the likelihood of a vehicle fire.
  dealers will install a seal on the vehicle fuel rails to prevent external leakage of fuel from the fuel rail crossover tube, should the existing o-rings continue to degrade. Owner notification began on january 25, 2002. Due to the large quantity of vehicles involved in this campaign, the owner notification will be phased over the next several months. However, if a vehicle is leaking fuel from the o-rings, the vehicle should be taken into a dealer to have this repaired as soon as possible.   On certain vehicles, increased clockspring terminal resistance or a back-winding condition of the clockspring may cause the airbag warning lamp to illuminate. Until the problem is remedied, the drivers airbag will not deploy as required in a frontal crash, increasing the risk of injury to the seat occupant. Correction: dealers will replace the clockspring assembly on vehicles with less than 115 000 kms. Owners of vehicles with over 115 000 kms will be offered extended lifetime warranty on the clockspring.

  On certain vehicles equipped with the 3.3l or 3.8l engine the nitrile "o-ring" seals used in the fuel rail may degrade over time and extended exposure to elevated temperatures. This could result in fuel leakage, and, in the presence of an ignition source, an underhood fire could occur. Correction: external seals will be installed at both of the fuel rail crossover tube joints. If the crossover tube joints are leaking or red rust exists in the area, the fuel rail assembly must be replaced.

  The driver air bag clockspring can develop an open-circuit condition resulting in nonfunctional driver-side frontal air bag, horn, cruise control (if equipped), and/or steering wheel radio control (if equipped).In its october 5, 2004 letter to nhtsa, daimlerchrysler stated that it will conduct a safety recall and replace the clockspring assembly on all my 1998.5-2000 daimlerchrysler minivans, built between march 1998 and august 2000, with 70,000 miles or less.It will also provide a lifetime warranty for this component on my 1998.5-2000 minivans, regardless of mileage.The details of the corrective action are described in daimlerchryslers letter (see recall no. 04v-480).The agency believes that further expenditure of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists with respect to those vehicles covered only by the lifetime warranty.The agency will take further action if warranted by the circumstances.See page 2 for additional information.

• Overheating of seat heaters investigation # PE04017

  Odi opened this investigation based on 24 complaints alleging that the electrically heated driver or passenger seat sparks/overheats.Daimlerchrysler believes the failure is due to one of two factors:the stitching operation on the seat cover may cause the sewing needle to sever some strands of the wire heating grid in the seat, or a poor solder joint/wire connector fails due to "improper processing or long term overstressing."the ignition switch and the seat heater switch must both be turned on to power the seat heater.Complainants report that when overheating occurs, switching the heater off also stops the overheating.The failure cannot occur in an unattended vehicle with the ignition switch off.Odi finds that the 33 fire allegations are reporting very localized overheating(photos of damaged seats show holes the size of a pencil or less).There are no reports of sustained combustion and no reports of other fire damage to the vehicle.The injury allegations are reporting minor injury.No consumers required medical treatment (physician care).There are no allegations of loss of vehicle control due to failure of a heated seat.A safety-related defect has not been identified at this time and further use of agency resources does not appear to be warranted.Accordingly this investigation is closed.The closing of this investigation does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that no safety-related defect exists.The agency reserves the right to take further action if warranted by the circumstances.

This letter is regarding a manufacturer defect in the 2000 plymouth grand voyager and 2000 chrysler town and country vans. We own both vehicles, and both have experienced this problem. There is an issue with the vehicles in wet weather. When it rains and the driver goes through water, the vehicles shut themselves down completely. Lights turn off, power steering is arrested, and the driver has to coast to a stop. This has happened several times to my parents, and more than once, they have had to secure the services of a towing company to get the vehicle(s) home or to a repair shop. This has happened at night on two-lane highways, leaving them stranded in pitch-black darkness. These are the only vehicles that my parents have to drive to and from work, which is an hour and a half away from home. My father has visited the chrysler-dodge dealership several times, and they told him that this is a large-scale problem with these particular models of vans. They are well aware of the issue, but there has not been a full-scale recall on the vehicles. There is a kit to fix the problem. The kit is over $300, and the onus is on the consumer to purchase the kit and have it installed. My dad spent over $700 to have the kit installed on both vans. This manufacturer defect is dangerous not only to the drivers of the vehicles, but to other motorists. Please consider doing a national recall for this factory defect. In front end collision with a pole on a city street -passenger airbag deployed, driver airbag did not deploy

Stalls when driving, will not start, stalls while warming up.

My speedometer doesn't read correctly. It indicates that i am driving slower than reality by about 15mph.

Engine suddenly stalls while van in motion. Losing power steering and power braking. Once van coasts to a stop, restart with no issues. Normally occurs after van sits overnight and engine isn't warmed up as yet.

Once after hitting water puddle and then while driving in rain, belt slips off pulleys and steering loses power. Then battery dies quickly while flashers are on. Very dangerous on the side of the road in rain!

Cruse cont does not work horn not working and air bag light is on. All of them worked off and on for a time but not now06

The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic where it was diagnosed that the clockspring failed and needed to be repaired. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 140,000.

The vehicle was taken to the dealer where it was diagnosed that the clock spring assembly needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact received notification of nhtsa campaign number: 04v480000 (air bags); however, the part to do the repair was unavailable. The contact stated that the manufacturer exceeded a reasonable amount of time for the recall repair. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was unknown. Parts distribution disconnect.
