  Chrysler is recalling 175 my 2009 dodge charger, challenger, and chrysler 300 vehicles. The tire pressure monitor (tpm) sensors may not transmit the actual tire pressure. This could result in the driver not being aware of low tire pressure.

• Recall 2016265 [Canada]: Airbag
  On certain vehicles, long-term exposure to high absolute humidity and temperature, combined with high temperature cycling, could eventually degrade the propellant contained in the passenger frontal airbag. This could cause the airbag to deploy with more force than normal. As a result, if the vehicle were involved in a collision that warrants airbag deployment, fragments could be propelled toward vehicle occupants, and the airbag assembly could be damaged, preventing proper function. These issues could increase the risk of injury. Correction: dealers will replace the airbag inflator. Note: canadian climate results in the propellant degrading slowly. The recall is being conducted as a precaution to address future risk, and is expected to replace airbag inflators before their function would be affected.

• Recall 2015228 [Canada]: Airbag
  On certain vehicles, the driver frontal airbag inflator could produce excessive internal pressure during airbag deployment. Increased pressure may cause the inflator to rupture, which could allow fragments to be propelled toward vehicle occupants, increasing the risk of injury. This could also damage the airbag module, which could prevent proper deployment. Failure of the airbag to fully deploy during a crash (where deployment is warranted) could increase the risk of personal injury to the seat occupant. Note: this recall supersedes special service campaign 2015-003. Correction: dealers will replace airbag inflators. All vehicles having received a replacement inflator as part of the previous special service campaign will have a replacement inflator installed.

  On certain vehicles, the front wheel spindle nut - which retains the hub, rotor, and wheel assembly - may have been omitted during vehicle assembly. This could allow the wheel assembly to separate from the vehicle while driving, which could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage, personal injury or death. Correction: dealers will inspect for presence of the front wheel spindle nut, and repair any vehicle missing the nut.

• Desiccated air bag inflator rupture investigation # EA21002

  From 2000 through 2017, takata produced millions of air bag inflators using two types of phase-stabilized ammonium nitrate ("psan") propellant -- propellant 2004 and propellant 2004l. After prolonged exposure to high temperature cycles and humidity, inflators using propellant 2004 can degrade, causing the propellant to burn too quickly when ignited. The rapid burning can cause the inflator to rupture during deployment, potentially causing serious or even fatal injury to vehicle occupants. See 2016 blomquist report at www.Nhtsa.Gov/sites/nhtsa.Gov/files/documents/expert_report-hrblomquist.Pdf.Consequently, all frontal inflators using propellant 2004 that do not contain a "desiccant" (a substance that traps and holds moisture) in us vehicles are under recall. These "non-desiccated" inflators either have been or are required to be replaced.In some cases, the remedy part for these recalled inflators was, or will be, an inflator using either propellant 2004 or 2004l that does contain a desiccant. None of these "desiccated" remedy parts (which were installed in older model year vehicles) are currently under recall for a degradation concern. Certain subsets of desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004 for use as original equipment, however, have been recalled for a degradation concern. All takata inflators produced with propellant 2004l contain desiccant, and none of these desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l are under recall for a degradation concern. There have been no reported field ruptures in any non-recalled desiccated psan inflators.It is understood that desiccants fully saturate at some threshold, at which point any additional moisture will not be captured. This means the degradation process observed in non-desiccated inflators using propellant 2004 may also occur in non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004, assuming additional moisture enters the inflator and high temperature cycling occurs. Based on available information, desiccant saturation can occur within the first five years in the worst environments, and the time required for full saturation is affected by multiple factors. While no present safety risk has been identified, further work is needed to evaluate the future risk of non-recalled desiccated inflators using propellant 2004.Three entities -- takata (now known as tk global), the independent testing coalition, and exponent -- have been studying the long-term behavior of takata desiccated psan inflators using propellant 2004l (as well as 2004) in the presence of moisture and temperature cycling. The research efforts, which include development of predictive modeling techniques and field sample analysis, are ongoing. To date, none of the researchers have identified field evidence showing that propellant 2004l is undergoing a degradation process that leads to aggressive deployment and potential rupture. However, the time in service of such inflators remains short compared to that of the inflators using propellant 2004. Further study is needed to assess the long-term safety of desiccated inflators using propellant 2004l.The office of defects investigation is opening this investigation to examine whether a safety defect related to propellant degradation exists in non-recalled desiccated psan frontal inflators manufactured by takata. This investigation will require extensive information on takata production processes and surveys of inflators in the field. Lists of recall actions that may have used desiccated psan inflators as remedy parts, as well as the makes and models originally manufactured with them, is available with the downloadable version of this document (see nhtsa.Gov/recalls?Nhtsaid=ea21002 -- note this information is subject to change/revision as the investigation proceeds). • Prndl misalignment investigation # PE08052

  In a november 5, 2008 letter, chrysler submitted a defect information report describing a defect condition that could result in prndl misalignment (i.E., incorrect gear indication) in approximately 20,300 model year (my) 2006 through 2009 dodge charger and magnum police vehicles built from may 17, 2005 through october 21, 2008 (nhtsa recall no. 08v-583, chrysler recall h37).According to chrysler, "the gearshift cable may become disengaged from the steering column mounting bracket and cause an incorrect transmission gearshift position display.This could allow the vehicle to move inadvertently and cause a crash without warning."chrysler dealers will remedy the defect condition by installing a redundant locking mechanism to the gearshift cable and the mounting bracket to ensure proper retention and shift linkage function. Chrysler uses a unique column shifter in these police vehicles.After pe08-052 was opened, chrysler inspected a my 2009 police vehicle and noted that "though the gearshift cable appeared fully seated into the steering column mounting bracket, the cable retention feature (locking pin) was not fully seated.Chrysler subsequently determined that if the retention feature is not fully seated, the cable may disengage from the mounting bracket, resulting in the shift linkage system not functioning to design intent with the potential for incorrect gear position indication via the prndl display.Chyslers inspection of 59 my 2009 dodge charger and magnum police vehicles in september and october found 30 where the gearshift cable was not fully engaged to the mounting bracket.There are no reported crashes or injuries related to the defect condition to date. Tl* the contact owns a 2009 dodge charger. The contact was driving at 35 mph, when all of the warning lights illuminated then stopped. The vehicle stalled but the contact was able to pull over on the side of the road. The contact then saw black smoke coming from the engine compartment and was able to put the fire out with a wet rag and some water. The contact then contacted his insurance company when he noticed that there was smoke coming from the rear seats. The fire department arrived and opened the trunk with a crowbar and saw that the battery had caught fire. The contact and his daughter, who was a passenger in the vehicle did not sustain injuries. A fire department report was filed. The vehicle was towed to the contact's residence. The dealer and manufacturer were not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was 190,000.

All of my steering column components quit working, i have no turn signals, wipers, brights, cruise control, horn or power mirrors. Now the taillights illuminate only when they want to but brake lights work. I was stopped and informed that i had no rear lighting at all and that is was very unsafe. I've spent a lot of money replacing parts but nothing is getting fixed not too mention the safety aspect of it all with no turn signals or windshield wipers and the taillights or running lights not working unless i unhook the brake light switch which i also replaced. The airbag light comes on here and there as well. I believe it's the tipm but i need something done about this. It's been months since i've been able to drive the car and having everything working properly. I also take care of my vehicles and keep up on routine maintenance.
