Correction: vehicles will be inspected and any trailer hitch that exhibits evidence of fatigue cracking will be replaced.   The agency opened this investigation based on 30 complaints alleging that the hoods on model year (my) 2000 and 2001 dodge ram pickup trucks flew up and blocked the drivers vision.These vehicles have a primary hood latch and a secondary (backup) hood latch.The secondary latch is designed to secure the hood if the primary hood latch is not properly closed or otherwise malfunctions.In these complaints, the secondary hood latch malfunctioned, apparently due to corrosion, and did not latch.Dodge conducted recall 01v-040 in 1999 to address similar problems on model year 1994-1997 dodge ram pickup trucks.The information chrysler provided in response to odis information request letter indicated that the my 2000 and 2001 vehicles were equipped with secondary hood latches with stainless steel return springs, as opposed to the earlier recalled trucks that had zinc coated carbon steel return springs.The recalled components were susceptible to corrosion-induced failure due to the type of material used, whereas the corrosion failures in the newer models appear to be due to lubrication loss over time (regular application of grease is advised per instructions in the owners manual). Odis review of chryslers warranty, complaint, and injury data for the 2000 and 2001 vehicles indicates that the rates for subject vehicles are low and are declining.A potential defect trend has not been identified.This investigation is closed.

  There are no injuries or fatalities associated with this alleged defect.While conducting this investigation, odi found that the subject cinches meet the load bearing requirements of federal motor vehicle safety standard 208, and that many of the reported failures were due to incorrect child safety seat installations. Additionally, the report rate is low (1.60/100k).The information available fails to establish the existence of a defect trend at this time.Further allocation of agency resources to this issue is unwarranted and the preliminary evaluation is being closed.

Hvac dripping into right frame horn causing severe rust affecting steering linkage, and loss of vehicle control. No appropriate drain tube to route moisture away from frame was installed at the factory. Very dangerous!

The frame horns {left and right} developed cracks on all four sides ahead of the front wheels leading to the detachment of the steering arm and stabilizer bar resulting in little to no control of the vehicle. While the detachment is not fully complete it only through the extremely weakened connections that remain that an accident was avoided. The vehicle was brought to a stop as soon the loss of control was experienced and has been parked since. It is cannot be operated safely in the this condition. The failed frame is the source of the driveability and safety issues. The vehicle was traveling northbound on a 4 lane divided road when the loss of control manifested.

Urgent safety issue: driving down the road vehicle loses complete steer ability!!! Had towed to dealership and found frame rusted through (due to factory routing of a/c water drainage) and caused steering mechanism to separate where the steering connection is!!! Dealership is not acknowledging a recall nor resolution and based on the number of these vehicles still on the road (now primarily as low budget work vans) i fully expect to see injury and deaths if this is not addressed immediately!!! I have done all i know to do (including searching the web where i see multiple alerts to similar incidents) so any injury or death due to further inaction is on the conscious of the recipient of this urgent warning!!!!!!!!!!!

While coming back from some errands as i pulled into my driveway i heard a big snap on my front end and bang and scrapping on pavement as soon as i stopped to look the whole piece of the stabilizer bar fell off the front end chassis and as i looked on front end i noticed heavy corrosion on drivers side where steering box is located as of now vehicle is very unsafe to drive any where there is heavy corrosion this vehicle"s front end. Driving straight on roadway when vehicle, which was at a stop sign on the right side of roadway, pulled directly into path. T boned a honda. The airbags spewed the chemical contents, but did not deploy. *tr the vehicle was totaled, no airbags deployed.

2000 dodge ram van B1500. Consumer writes in regards to broken frame *tgw the consumer stated when the frame failed, he almost hit another vehicle. He injured is knee, when trying to bring the vehicle to a stop, but the brakes locked up. The consumer stated the frame had rotted away.
