  Federal-mogul is recalling certain replacement control arm assemblies, part numbers k7425, 10945, fa4510x, k7427, 10946, and fa4611x, sold for use on various passenger vehicles listed above. The ball joint on the control arm assembly can fail causing the ball stud to wear through the control arm housing resulting in noise and/or separation of the ball stud from the housing.

• Recall 68279 [USA]: Separation of the ball stud from the socket of the ball joint housing would allow the control arm to collapse and the wheel to fold in causing loss of steering control, possibly resulting in a crash.
  Qualis automotive is recalling certain aftermarket ball joints sold for use on certain passenger vehicles. The socket may have been excessively hardened which could cause it to crack near the retaining ring groove allowing the ball stud to separate under impact load. The subject ball joints were sold as four part numbers, d10945, d10946, g10945, and g10946. The affected control arms, d10945 and d10946, are stamped with the following dates on the ball joints: 134308, 135708, 100109, 102709, 104109, 105509, 107609, 108909, 110309, 113209, and 116609. The g10945 and g10946 are the same part as the d10945 and d10946 respectively. They are labeled differently depending on the aftermarket customer.

  Certain tigas fuel pump modules manufactured between june 1 and september 24, 2006, sold under various brand names and p/nos. These fuel pump modules are sold as aftermarket for use in certain daimlerchrysler vehicles listed above. Silicone material used in manufacture of the flapper valve was out-of-specification, leading to excess swell of the flapper valve restricting the flow of fuel to the fuel pump module.

• Recall 8514 [USA]: Daimlerchrysler recall no. 843. if this happens, the tube could leak, reducing the effectiveness of one-half of the diagonally split braking system, and resulting in longer stopping distances.
  Vehicle description: passenger vehicles. The right rear brake tube can contact the exhaust system clamp and wear a hole in it.
  dealers will inspect the brake tubes for visible evidence of contact with the exhaust system clamp. If the tube shows evidence of contact, it will be replaced. If no evidence of contact exists, the tube will be fastened with a clip.

  On certain vehicles equipped with an automatic transmission and a floor-mounted shifter, the ignition-park interlock may become defeated and allow the shifter to be moved out of the park position with the key removed. An inoperative interlock may also allow the key to be removed when the shifter has not been placed in the park position. This may result in the vehicle rolling away without warning. Correction: dealer will inspect the function of the ignition-park interlock system. Vehicles found with functional interlock systems will have a load-limiting push rod installed into the floor shifter lever.   On certain vehicles, the right rear brake tube may contact the exhaust system clamp causing wear. If this happens, the brake tube could develop a leak, reducing the effectiveness of one half of the diagonally split braking system. This could result in longer stopping distances and a possible crash without prior warning. Correction: brake tubes will be inspected for evidence of contact with the exhaust clamp and replaced if necessary. If no evidence of contact exists, the tube will be secured with a clip.

• Power steering fluid fires investigation # EA05019

  Odi has received 29 reports of engine compartment fires that appear to be related to power steering hose leakage in model year (my) 1999 and 2000 chrysler cirrus, dodge stratus and plymouth breeze vehicles (ja-cars) equipped with 2.4l engines.These reports indicate that the fire resulted from a power steering hose leak or that it occurred after an extended drive and shortly after being parked - conditions consistent with ignition of power steering fluid on a hot engine or exhaust surface during the vehicle hot soak period. On january 6, 2006, daimlerchrysler corporation (dcc) notified nhtsa of a safety defect on my 1999 and 2000 ja-cars built from july 1, 1998 to july 31, 2000 and equipped with 2.4l engines (recall 06v-001).The notification stated that ¿the high pressure power steering hose may prematurely heat, age and develop a leak. Power steering fluid leakage in the presence of an ignition source may result in an under hood fire."dcc indicated that it was aware of 94 complaints and field reports that may be related to this condition when it made the defect determination.To remedy the defect condition, dcc will replace the high pressure power steering hose on the affected vehicles with a new part made from a hose material with increased heat resistance capability. Consequently, this investigation is closed.Odi will monitor the effectiveness of the remedy and take further action if warranted.

• Engine compartment fires investigation # PE05036

  On june 29, 2005, odi opened preliminary evaluation pe05-036 to investigate complaints of engine compartment fires in model year (my) 1999-2000 chrysler cirrus, dodge stratus and plymouth breeze passenger cars (ja cars). The ja cars were introduced in my 1995 and ended with my 2000.They were produced with 2.0l, 2.4l and 2.5l engines.The incident data in the failure report summary of this resume are for subject vehicle engine compartment fires for all causes. According to daimlerchrysler, evidence collected from field inspections of fire incident vehicles indicate that fluid leakage from the high pressure power steering hose is the most likely cause of the fires in the subject vehicles.The subject high pressure power steering hose is used in ja cars with both the 2.4l and 2.0l engines in my 1995 through 2000.The fire incident rate in the my 1999 through 2000 ja vehicles with 2.4l engines is significantly higher than in the prior model year vehicles using that engine and in any of the vehicles with the 2.0l or 2.5l engines.Daimlerchrysler is continuing its investigation of the issue and has provided periodic updates to odi. An engineering analysis (ea05-019) has been opened to further assess the scope and frequency of the alleged defect in the subject vehicles.

• Auto trans ignition-park interlock investigation # EA03011

  The manufacturer reports above are based on daimlerchrysler?S (dc) analysis of model year (my) 1998 (population = 356,384) and 1999 (population = 486,948) ja, jx and lh family subject vehicle data (earlier mys excluded).The population number includes all mys.The precise number of duplicates between odi and dc reports cannot be determined due to missing or incomplete information.The fatality incident involved an elderly person who attempted to stop a roll away vehicle and received fatal injuries.Odi also gathered information on my 1997-99 prowler vehicles in this investigation. The prowler vehicles were manufactured with a different design shifter mechanism (the shift lever is shorter).There are no complaints of prowler interlock failure in odi?S database, and dc has received no reports either.The prowler is excluded from the recall scope.The investigation involved a condition where the interlock system could fail (or be made inoperative by the operator) during vehicle use, possibly inadvertently.The interlock system is required under fmvss 114.With the transmission in the park position and the ignition key off, the combined action of pressing the shift button and pulling the shift lever rearward may result in the operator overcoming the interlock system and cause the mechanical linkage of the system to disconnect.When this occurs, there is no overt indication to an operator that the system is defeated, and an increased risk of vehicle roll-away exists.Under recall 04v021, dc will replace damaged shift mechanisms, and will install on all vehicles a device which inhibits the operator?S ability to overcome the interlock and defeat the system.Beginning with my 2000, dc incorporated a brake and transmission shifter interlock (btsi) system into the subject vehicles.Introduction of btsi involved design changes to the shift mechanism, one of which resulted in reduced mechanical advantage (rma) of the shift button.The rma shifter requires increased forces to overcome the interlock system, making the shifter less susceptible to damage.

While driving the vehicle i came to a stop to make a left hand turn and as i started without warning the vehicle stalled and lost power of steering wheel and brakes i almost hit another car. I bought a car in jan 2020 which has been sitting a few/couple years and i found 3 recalls on it. 1999 dodge stratus 2.4. I emailed u s customer care/ dodge customer care and got mail back stating yes on 3 recalls and a dealer in reno nv to call. I called and service and parts dept said yes on recalls. Bring it in to check and advise to fix. Got mutil mails from customer care stating they had car under last owner and i told them i was new owner. Next mail was, claim/s are closed. I asked why now 3 times and no answer except a take survey. No service or repairs have been done on this car other then to find out there was 3 recalls and now customer care doesnt want to do anything to fix this car. I dont understand how one day there is and the next day claim closed. The only difference is i am a new owner. One recall is for a fix power steering hose so car wont catch fire. I am have got nowhere with all my tries to get car recalls fixed. According to web sites the 3 recalls are listed as incomplete still to date. Meaning not taken care of to my understanding.

I was driving and hear a metal scraping noise from my front right side by the wheel when i turned left.Before i got home the noise got extremely loud and constant.I took the tire off when i got home and found the ball joint was broken and was out of position cause a rubbing inside my tire rim.It looked like the arm of the ball joint had been burned through causing it to break.There seems to be a recall on some 1999 dodge stratus' ball joints but when i entered my vin# mine did not come up.They shouldn't just break from normal use.It was on the highway when it happened driving normally then the noise started and i felt kind of a pop and almost lost control of the car.

While traveling on interstate i85 in sc. The sunroof glass dislodged and flew off of the roof of my vehicle. The glass shattered on the roadway and fortunately no other vehicles were struck. After further inspection and investigation it was clear that the glass had separated from the frame of the sunroof assembly. According to the manufacturers label, it was manufactured by vermeulen - hollandia serial number 399915. Apparently there is an open voluntary recall on sunroofs manufactured by this company for separation issues. The model numbers reference in this voluntary recall is model number 60000000 and above and apparently does not include the 3000000 series. Since the issues are the same, i.E. Separation of glass and frame, there are clearly other safety issues still out there. Hollandia's voluntary recall is alleged to be for non factory installed products, however, my 1999 dodge stratus was purchased new from the dealer with this sunroof installed.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. The contact stated that while driving the vehicle, there was an abnormal noise coming from the steering column. The contact also indicated that while driving at various speeds, the vehicle suddenly stalled and the check engine warning light illuminated. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic, who was unable to the diagnose the cause of the failures. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 1999 dodge stratus. While driving at various speeds, the contact noticed a burning rubber odor and shaking noise coming from the rear of the vehicle. Upon further inspection, the contact noticed that the rear passenger side wheel hub, wheel, tire, and brake drum were extremely hot. The contact independently changed both rear brake shoes, springs, and drums; however, the failure recurred. The contact independently diagnosed that the brake lines needed to be replaced. The vehicle was repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 135,000.
