Complaint Information: OBD II Codes

NHTSA Mandated Recalls
  • Recall 1999025 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles, the tie rod end can pull outboard and separate from the tie rod tube due to improper thread engagement between the male tie rod end and the female tube. A separation of the tie rod end could result in loss of steering control and a possible crash. Correction: the complete tie rod assembly will be replaced on involved vehicles.

  • Recall 1998224 [Canada]: Fuel supply
On certain vehicels, a fuel leak could occur during normal operation because of over crimping of the hose end fittings on the hose from the regulator to the left head and the hose from the fuel transfer pump to the regulator. Should a fuel leak occur on a hot engine, a fire could result. Correction: fuel hoses will be replaced with properly crimped hoses.

  • Recall 2003053 [Canada]: Brakes
On certain vehicles, the bosch zero offset pin slide (zops) hydraulic disc brakes may experience calipers sticking in the applied position, which can result in excessive or abnormal heat generation at one or more of the brakes. In bus applications, the combination of the following factors may collectively result in an unreasonable risk to motor vehicle safety: potential fire at a wheel end, high incident rates of stuck calipers, and evacuation and containment concerns relating to multiple passengers. Correction: dealer will affect repairs.

  • Recall 1997153 [Canada]: Engine
The accelerator pedal rod material is excessively brittle and may break during a hard full throttle application. Should the rod break, the engine would return to idle. This could result in an inability to properly accelerate the vehicle in a circumstance which could cause a vehicular accident without warning. Correction: accelerator rods on affected vehicles will be replaced with new rods.

  • Recall 1997228 [Canada]: Engine
The material of the accelerator pedal rod is brittle and may result in a fatigue failure from torsional stress. Should the accelerator rod break, the engine would return to idle. This could result in an inability to properly accelerate the vehicle and could result in an accident without prior warning. Correction: the electronic accelerator rods on these vehicles will be replaced with new rods.

  • Recall 1997020 [Canada]: Structure
On vehicles with a 3/4 inch thick plywood floor and extra thick floor mats, the bottom edge of the accelerator pedal when depressed, could come in contact with the floor. Should the accelerator pedal come in contact with the floor, there is the possibility that the pedal might get caught and not return to the idle position. This could result in loss of driver control and a crash without prior warning. Correction: vehicles will be inspected and accelerator pedals will be modified where required to ensure adequate clearance.

  • Recall 1997021 [Canada]: Suspension
The rear axle pinion may crack and eventually break at the pinion thread location. This could cause separation of the threaded end of the pinion resulting in subsequent separation of the yoke and drive line from the rear axle. A separated yoke and drive line could pose a hazard to other users of the roadway and also affect vehicle stability and control. This could result in a crash without prior warning. Correction: rear axle carrier pinion assembly will be replaced on affected vehicles.
