• Recall 96954 [USA]: If the drive shaft breaks, a section of it can strike the transfer case tunnel with enough force that the airbag computer will believe the vehicle is in a crash and thus deploy the airbags. additionally, the drive shaft failure will result in a loss of motive power. either condition may increase the risk of a crash.
  Chrysler group llc (chrysler) is recalling certain model year 2007-2008 dodge nitro 4x2 vehicles manufactured march 21, 2006, through march 1, 2008; and 2008 jeep liberty 4x2 vehicles manufactured february 15, 2007, through march 1, 2008. The transfer case heat shield may drop down and rub on the drive shaft, weakening it and potentially causing the drive shaft to break.

  Chrysler is recalling certain model year 2008 jeep liberty vehicles. The vehicles are equipped with windshield wiper motors that contain excess adhesive that may allow for water intrusion, which could result in intermittent and eventually inoperative windshield wiper operation.

• Recall 74586 [USA]: This condition could cause a loss of effective lift and lowering of the affected vehicle, possibly creating the driver to panic which could possibly lead to a vehicle crash.
  Rock krawler is recalling 44 performance suspension systems sold as aftermarket equipment for use on the vehicle listed above. These suspension systems were produced with grade 2 carriage bolts instead of the proper grade 5 carriage bolts. The improper grade 2 carriage bolts could experience a loss of clamping force for the bottom strut fork.

  On certain vehicles, the tunnel heat shield may drop down and rub on the drive shaft, which could eventually result in the drive shaft breaking and loss of motive power. In conjunction with traffic and road conditions and driver reactions, this could increase the risk of a crash. A broken drive shaft could also impact the tunnel with sufficient force to cause airbag deployment. Unintended airbag deployment, in a non-warranted (non-impact) situation could startle the driver which could result in a vehicle crash causing property damage and/or personal injury. In some instances, inadvertent deployment could cause minor injuries to vehicle occupants. Correction: dealers will install a heat shield support bracket.

• Totally integrated power module failure investigation # DP14004

  In a letter dated august 21, 2014, the center for auto safety (cas) petitioned the national highway traffic safety administration (nhtsa) to initiate a defect investigation of alleged failures associated with the totally integrated power module (tipm) installed in chrysler suv’s, trucks, and vans beginning in the 2007 model year. The petitioner alleges that tipm defects may result in engine stall, airbag non-deployment, failure of fuel pump shutoff resulting in unintended acceleration, fire, and other symptoms. On september 25, 2014, the office of defects investigation (odi) opened dp14-004 to evaluate the petition for a grant or deny decision. Odi analyzed complaint data provided by cas as well as complaints submitted to odi from consumers. In total, there were 296 complaints submitted by the petitioner in the original petition and five supplements, including 271 complaints related to the subject vehicles equipped with tipm-7. Approximately 3 percent of cas complaints are related to vehicles equipped with tipm-6 and odi’s review of these complaints did not identify any safety defect trends. Odi conducted a detailed review of complaints narratives submitted by cas and consumers including careful analysis of vehicle repair histories, warranty claims obtained from the manufacturer and any available customer assistance inquiry reports (cair). Analysis of the field data indicated that my2011-2013 jeep grand cherokee and dodge durango vehicles exhibited significantly higher complaint rates related to fuel pump relay (fpr) failures than other subject vehicles. In a september 3, 2014 letter to nhtsa, chrysler submitted a defect information report (dir) identifying a defect in the fpr within the tipm-7 which can result in a no start or stall condition in approximately 188,723 model year (my) 2011 jeep grand cherokee (wk) and dodge durango (wd) vehicles manufactured from january 5, 2010 through july 20, 2011 (14v-530).In a february 24, 2015 letter, chrysler submitted a second dir expanding the scope of the fpr defect condition to include an additional 338,216 my 2012 through 2013 jeep grand cherokee vehicles manufactured from september 17, 2010 through august 19, 2013 and my 2012 through 2013 dodge durango vehicles manufactured from january 18, 2011 through august 19, 2013 (15v-115).Odi analysis of the cas allegations of tipm defects resulting in stall while driving, airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration, fire and other faults identified a single defect condition related to 1 of over 60 different circuits in the tipm assembly. The most common effect of this defect condition, related to the fuel pump relay, was a no-start concern, but it could also result in stall while driving (76 complaints). No valid evidence was presented in support of claims related to airbag non-deployment, unintended acceleration or fire resulting from tipm faults and these claims were found to be wholly without merit based on review of the field data and design of the relevant systems and components.Except insofar as the petitioners contentions relate to the defect condition addressed by the chrysler recalls, the factual bases of the petitioners contentions that any further investigation is necessary are unsupported. In our view, additional investigation is unlikely to result in a finding that a defect related to motor vehicle safety exists or a nhtsa order for the notification and remedy of a safety-related defect as alleged by the petitioner at the conclusion of the requested investigation. Therefore, in view of the need to allocate and prioritize nhtsas limited resources to best accomplish the agencys safety mission, the petition is denied. This action does not constitute a finding by nhtsa that a safety-related defect does not exist. The agency will take further action if warranted by future circumstances. We had a fire in the engine compartment. Fire started at the engine manifold ! We took pictures of the damage! This could have killed my son in law ! We gifted the vehicle to him so it could be used as a station vehicle. A dangerous situation exist ! There is no recall or acknowledgment of this problem being identified!

Gas burps out every time you fill the tank!

Once parked the heat sheild came up against the heater core and must have sparked causing it to catch fire under the hood! Needs to be investigated before causing a possible fatal issue

When filling fuel tank to full capacity and fuel flow is shut off, fuel comes back up out of fill port spilling at least 2 cups of gas over filler and ground. Happens every time tank is filled full. This occurs while vehicle is stationary engine off while at any gas station. It is an apparent failure on a valve in the gas tank requiring entire tank to be replaced at the owners expense. Is a known issue to manufacturer.

On 17 february, with my foot on the brake, i placed my car into reverse to back into an available parking spot and the engine revved up on its own and shot the car backward at top speed hitting and toppling a san diego light post and stopping when it hit a tree. No one was injured thank goodness. I found on line that this had happened at least 31 times with a similar jeep liberty.

I'm speeding up as i'm passing a truck on 395, signaling with left blinker. Start speed as beginning to pass is approx. 55 mph. I signal right as i pull back in the south bound lane, take my foot off the gas pedal as i notice i'm driving 80 mph. The gas pedal is stuck and the car is going 80 mph on its own. I step on the brake carefully but its rock hard and doesn't move at all. At this point the car is stuck at 80 mph. I try to brake again but the same - brake pedal is stuck, doesn't move at all and is rock hard. Road conditions are good so i'm in a "controlled panic", and try the brake one more time. This time the brakes engage and i get the car down to 65 mph. I don't want to burn the brakes so i release the brake and immediately the car speeds up on its own to 80 mph. I repeat. Slow to 65 mph, step off the brake and again the car immediately speeds up to 80 mph. At this point my thoughts go to cruise control (which i had not activated or used on this trip). I pull the "cancel" on the cruise control, nothing. I try again and look at the dashboard where the cruise control light is "off", indicating cruise control is not on. I turn the cruise control on and pull the "cancel" again and brake. This time the car comes out of it, and i turn the cruise control off again. Since the cruise control was not even on to begin with, i don't know if that's what actually made the car 'unfreeze'. I was lucky i was on a straight stretch of road with no traffic in front of me. Since i was passing a truck i'm not 100% sure if i sped up to 80 mph or if the car suddenly did that on its own. I do believe the car did that, as there was no reason to get up to that speed to pass safely.
