The frame of the vehicle is rusting out. There are thousands of these trucks on the road with this issue. Land rover used inferior metals and rust protection. The safety of the vehicle in a crash is severely compromised.

Brake failure. While driving on a city street, brakes failed to stop vehicle, brake warning illuminated after pressing brake pedal. Emergency brake applied and downshift to slow and stop. Repair shop stated "brake pipes attached to frame had rusted excessively along with frame, a very common issue". While searching internet i easily found hundreds of complaints involving rusted brake lines/pipes and land rover (lr) discovery frames. Upon further search i noted toyota tacoma frame rust issues resulted in a safety recall. My lr tech said the frame degradation due to excessive rust on the discovery model is a safety concern! I'm a certified osha aviation safety inspector and am quite concerned over the public safety with this known excessive corrosion problem with lr discovery brake lines(pipes) and frames. *tr

After stopping the vehicle, flames appeared under the hood. The fire department was called to the scene and extinguished the fire. The cause of the failure was not diagnosed. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The failure mileage was 200,000.

Tl* the contact owns a 2000 land rover discovery ii. While the contact was driving approximately 35 mph the brake pedal was engaged; however, the vehicle continued to accelerate. Immediately the gear was shifted into neutral while force was applied to the brake and then the emergency brake was engaged. The vehicle came to a stop and was towed to an independent mechanic for diagnostic testing. The technician stated the accelerator cable would need to be replaced. There was a recall related to the defect associated with nhtsa campaign id number 02v028000 (vehicle speed control); however, the vin was ineligible under the recall. The vehicle had not been repaired. The contact planned to notify the manufacturer of the unintended acceleration. The approximate failure mileage was 150,000.

He stated that while driving 10mph when the abs ,traction and hill light came on he felt slippage on the front right tire whenever he engaged the brakes. The dealer stated that he needed a new right hand wheel speed sensor and an ecu on the vehicle. Recall nhtsa campaign id number: 02v022000 component: service brakes, hydraulic:antilock is related to the failure; however, the dealer stated that the vin was not included. The vehicle will be repaired at the owners expense for $1,200.00. For one week the dealer has been repairing the vehicle. The failure and current mileages were 101,000.

Tl*the contact owns a 2000 land rover discovery. While driving 40 mph up an on ramp, the accelerator pedal became stuck to the floor. As a result, the speed increased to 120 mph. The contact was unable to stop the vehicle for approximately five minutes. She experienced several unrelated issues with the vehicle prior to this incident. The abs warning lights illuminated when the vehicle was purchased and remain lit until the vehicle is serviced. After the repair, the light would illuminate again. Land rover commended the contact for dealing with the situation, but have not offered to assist. Land rover stated that they would consider assisting according to the lemon law, but have not gotten back to the contact. The dealer replaced the missing part, provided a loaner vehicle, and gave the contact a list of defects with the vehicle. The current and failure mileages were 90,000.

While attempting to make a left turn, the vehicle made a loud noise and drove as if something dropped in the vehicle. She managed to pull off the road and turned off the vehicle. She removed the key from the ignition, but the vehicle continued to move. The contact depressed the brake pedal and the vehicle stopped; however, it began moving again once she released her foot from the brake pedal. The emergency brake was applied and the vehicle stopped. The contact attempted to restart the vehicle, but it would not move. She placed the vehicle into drive and reverse, but the vehicle still would not move. The vehicle was waiting to be repaired.
