NHTSA Mandated Recalls
  • Recall 116663 [USA]: A damaged or broken brake disc may reduce a vehicle's braking power, increasing the risk of a crash.
Bosch brake components llc (bosch) is recalling certain aftermarket replacement front brake pads, models bosch quietcast bc598 and bp765, bosch blue be598 and be598h, prostop pd598 and pd765m, duralast gold dg598, duralast mkd598, stop master st598, ultrastop ult598, ultralife mx598 and mx765, brakebest mkd765, and prostop platinum pgd598. These brake pads, manufactured october 1, 2014, to october 31, 2015 are intended for use on 2001-2007 ford taurus, 2001-2005 mercury sable, 1995-1999 ford taurus sho, 1995-2002 lincoln continental, and 1993-1998 lincoln mark viii vehicles. The brake pad shim may shift out of position causing the shim to contact the brake disc resulting in damage to the disc.
bosch will instruct the owners how to have the affected brake pads replaced, free of charge. The recall began on may 26, 2016. Owners may contact bosch customer service at 1-888-715-3616.
owners may also contact the national highway traffic safety administration vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (tty 1-800-424-9153), or go to www.Safercar.Gov.

  • Recall 15289 [USA]: If the headlamps shut off while the vehicle is driven, driver visibility would be impaired increasing the potential for a vehicle accident.
A defective control module in the "autolamp" system can malfunction. If the "autolamp" system is being used to activate the exterior light (including headlamps), the headlamps could shut off without warning. This will not occur if the exterior lighting is turned on manually by the headlight switch.
dealers will replace the "autolamp" control module. Owners are instructed to use the manual headlamp switch until the control module can be replaced.
system: lighting and communications system. Vehicle description: passenger vehicles.Note: owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time, should contact ford at 1-800-392-3673. Also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.

  • Recall 1996019 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
A defect in the autolamp system may cause the exterior lights, including the headlights, to shut off without warning. This would only occur while the autolamp feature is being used. If the headlights shut off because of autolamp malfunction, the driver can turn them back on by manually rotating the headlamp switch to the "on" position. Correction: lighting control module will be replaced.

To ensure accuracy and for your safety, it is recommended to do a free VIN recall check here or here [USA] - UK - Canada.

I bought the car on 08/28/2010 and only drove it that day. Since it was a saturday and they closed early, i had to wait until monday to contact them. On monday, a rep from the dealership told me that they sold the car to me from someone who didn't have a dealership or title for the car and he was using their dealership to sell and to retrieve the title once the sell was final. The car was ok when i left the dealership, but after a couple hours it died on me while i was driving almost causing a accident. On the dash it keep saying, "check charging system". I know a lil about cars and i really need the transportation because i'm a college student at the university of wisconsin-milwaukee, i decided to try to get it fixed to my knowledge, but it seems as if it's something more to this "lemon" auction auto sold me. I replaced the alternator, voltage regulator and bought a new battery and nothing has changed. It'll drive for a hour or two then die while i'm driving. *tr

1995 lincoln continental cooling fan fire. I extinguished it with h20 before fpd arrived. *nm

NoNoN NoneNone20050713

Dt: the contact owns a 1995 lincoln continental. Received nhtsa campaign recall 98v323000. Vehicle manifested the same problem as listed in the recall concerning rear lower sub frame mount plate nut that could experience stress corrosion cracking if subjected to long term exposure to road salts. This can result in fracture and loss of the structural integrity of the subframe mount attachment. Detachment of the body mounts at the rear corners of the sub frame which supports the engine and transmission, allows the rear corners of the subframe to drop. If both rear corners drop steering would become suddenly very difficult, affecting vehicle's control and increasing the risk of a crash. This recall did not include the year o vehicle but she had this same problem. *ak *tt

January 10th the 'door ajar' sensor came on and the interior lights were on. I checked all 4 doors, they were all closed and the lights remained on. I then pushed the 'reset' button for the sensor and the lights then would go off for a brief time and come back on. Then, today january 11th the same thing occurred but after the car was turned off for a couple of hours the problem increased. I started the car, the 'door ajar' sensor came on along with the lights. Again the doors were checked, they were all shut. As i started to drive the lights went off, then when i came to a complete stop. The lights would turn on, and when i pushed the gas the lights faded away and turned off. When i turned my car off and locked the doors the lights stayed on for over 10-15 minutes. I've had numerous people look at it, and they don't understand what could have caused it. But there being a short or touching wires. I have not yet done anything to correct the problem. Im having someone else look at the wiring january 12th.*ak

The first head gasket failure in december of 1999 was repaired under the original vehicle warranty. The second head gasket failure in december of 1999 was repaired at auto-truck service company (958 central ave. N.E.; minneapolis, mn 55413; 612-379-2030; 612-379-2030; byran tabata owns auto truck service company) out of warranty. When we took the vehicle to auto-truck service, we did not know that we had yet another head gasket failure. After paying the bill at auto-truck service ($1,133.50), i wrote to mr. A.R. Kaduk (manager - vehicle service and programs; ford customer service division; ford motor co.; p.O. Box 1904; dearborn, michigan 48121-1904) requesting reimbursement for the cost of this 2nd head gasket repair in 86,000 miles, since i knew ford had enhanced the original 50,000 mile warranty to 75,000 miles for 1994 lincoln head gasket failures. In response to my letter, i received a phone call from a ford representative saying that ford would not be able to reimburse me because i had not had the 2nd head gasket repair done at an authorized lincoln dealership. This was a wholly unsatisfactory response, and i have since been considering other approaches for obtaining reimbursement, so far to no avail. *ak

While driving the steering wheel can lockup. Most of the time this problem occurs when tire gets wet even if it's just an inch of water on the ground. We have turned in the car to the local dealer at least a half dozen times and the problem continues to exist. I get really worried because it has happened in the middle of the road and trying to turn takes my entire energy to make turns. Once it's turned it unlocks. Also, the problem with the electronic message center.. The message "check ride control" also lights up when the ignition is turned on and whenever it wants to. This too have been brought to the attention of the local dealer and problem still exists.

Car's automatic door lock system is not working. Somewhere inside one of the doors or in a control panel, this item is malfunctioning-indicating that one of the doors is open. When the door is open the car will not lock. I have driven this car with children in the back seat and cannot lock the doors. In addition, another problem occurs because all interior lights remain on because this "door open" signal is on. This constant problem has caused me to lose 1 ford battery in 3 months and the one in the car now is weak. I was told (when the car was under extended warranty) that the dealer could not trace the problem. When car was out of warranty i was told that dealer could try to fix with a $600 part that may work. Surely this is a safety issue first--one that has been pushed aside by the dealer. *ak
