While the contact's daughter was driving 20 mph, the side air bags on the driver's side and the front and rear passenger side air bags deployed without warning or impact. There were no injuries. The manufacturer was contacted and the executive referral manager stated that they would call the contact back. The dealer was not contacted. A police report was filed. While pulling out of a parking lot, the front left corner of car fell down and there was a sound like i hit a pothole. The road was clear. At this point the vehicle became difficult to steer. I had the car towed to my house and after further inspection, i noticed the lower control arm had rotted out and broke.

While driving 55mph on a straight and level road, the passenger side curtain and right rear passenger door airbags deployed suddenly and without warning. The weather conditions were clear and dry. The road was asphalt and also dry. There were no other vehicles nearby and nothing in the road was run over. There was no contact with any objects whatsoever. There were no caution or warning lights prior to the event. The red "srs" light came on shortly after the air bags deployed.

Upon getting out of the vehicle, i noticed that the airbags had only deployed on the driver's side, both front and back doors airbags along with the airbag in drivers side upper area which covered the windows. My four year old daughter was in the car, on the passenger side but no damage or deployment of airbags. Upon trying to start the vehicle and moving it completely off the ride, the vehicle would not move, even when vehicle was put in drive or reverse. *tr

My mint condition w210 '00 e320 mercedes caught fire last week while my wife was pulling into her high rise office garage in downtown seattle. Fortunately, she was able to escape without injury before the fire grew and consumed the whole engine compartment. This engine fire started on its own with no outside factors. This car had been fully maintained during my 11 year ownership by mercedes of bellevue and mercedes of seattle. The car only had 155,000 miles on it, still fairly low mileage compared to the other mercedes i have owned over the years. I notified mercedes of seattle about this incident. No one in service seemed particularly concerned at the dealership, although they mentioned they have never seem a w210 catch on fire and burn on its own. Thus my message to you. *tr

Consumer writes in regards to mechanical malfunction caused the deployment of air bags. *smd the consumer stated the drive shaft dropped from the vehicle and the vehicle lost power. When the state trooper arrived on the scene, he noticed the vehicle had lost all of its transmission fluid. The consumer was informed it was likely the drive shaft hit a transmission line and caused it to rupture. The insurance company declared the vehicle a total loss, as it was not worth the expense of fixing. On july 5th on a busy city street in charlotte nc the brakes suddenly locked and brought the car to a stop. The cars behind me were able to avoid a rear end accident. There were no warning lights on at the time but once the brakes locked the bas/esp lights appeared. I got off of the street and turned the car off and on the restart all lights went off. Tried to drive the car home but within one mile the same thing happened again. I was scared to drive it so i had to be towed. *tr

Front end suspension due to spring perch went out. Spring perch came off of wheel well. Extensive front suspension repairs due to left front spring perch. Old parts are with collision center that is fixing the issue. *tr

The event involved my 2000 e320 sedan. I had driven to albuquerque and used my cruise control as usual - it was still on but not engaged. I entered kirtland afb, where i stopped at the guard shack to present my id and then started down wyoming street at 25 mph. Suddenly, the accelerator was drawn down to the floor and the car accelerated like a rocket! I grabbed the wheel with both hand and stood on the brake pedal with both feet, almost stopping before i overtook and hit a pickup truck that had been three blocks ahead of me. No injuries. About $5000 damage to my car from engulfing the huge towbar on the truck (grill, hood, radiator, power steering control, etc. - actually no major damage). Mercedes service people stated that they could find nothing wrong with the car to explain the spontaneous acceleration. *tr

Crankcase sensor failed suddenly causing lost power while on i-81 in willkes-barre, pa in heavy traffic. Since on a downhill was able to get to side of road. Was unable to restart car and had it towed off road by aaa. Had car fixed at motorworld in wilkes-barre. *tr

Tl*- the contact stated that while driving his 2000 mercedes e320 (78000 failure mileage), he noticed a crack on the dashboard around the air bag, on the passenger seat. The vehicle was kept in a heated garage at about 60 degrees. The vehicle will be taken to the dealer this week for a prognosis.

Dt*: the contact stated while driving 55 mph on the highway, the vehicle stalled without warning. It was maneuvered off the road and restarted. The vehicle stalled again at 55 mph. It was later towed to the dealer who determined the air bag sensor failed causing the engine to stall. The dealer replaced the air bag sensor. Updated 10/31/2006 - *nm

Dt*: the contact stated, when the ignition was turned to start the vehicle, the right front and side airbags deployed. The air bags also deployed in the rear seats, where children were located. When the vehicle was towed to the service dealer, it was determined that the battery under the rear passenger seat had exploded, causing the air bag deployment. One injury was reported.

Dt*: the contact stated when it rained water got inside the vehicle. It was taken to an independent repair shop where they applied a sealant to the side panel of the passenger's door. This r did not solve the problem. While being inspected by the repair shop a leak in the transfer case was discovered. No repairs have been made. *ak

Vehicle automatically shifted into lowest gear while driving, causing a dangerous condition, slowing the vehicle substantially in traffic. Vehicle refused to shift into higher gear or reverse. Towed to the dealership, who replaced shifter mechanism due to electronic failure, caused by spills. Observation of the part showed no residue from any liquid. Dealership said it happened all the time because the cup holder was right above the circuit board in the console and it was not sealed. Stated the replacement part installed was improved to prevent this from happening again. *ak

Dt*: the contact stated the rear windows failed to operate without warning. The vehicle was taken to the dealership, where it was determined the window regulator fractured. The window regulators were replaced. The blower motor was replaced. Updated 01/16/07. *jb the consumer discovered the reason why the windows fail as they do, is because they aren't used frequently. The clock was losing time, the stop light switch was defective and ultimately replaced. The horn was replaced, transmission fluid was leaking. The air mass senor was replaced, the coolant light illuminated, the consumer had trouble shifting the gear into reverse, the a/c was blowing hot air, the throttle valve was replaced, the consumer stated the engine had a loud valve train noise. Abs warning light comes on while driving. This problem occurred twice and both times the stop lamp switch was found to have caused the problem by the dealer. The first was on 01/19/01 with 9613 miles on the car. The second replacement was on 01/29/02 with 19175 miles on the car. *ak
