  • Recall 2019545 [Canada]: Electrical
Issue: on certain vehicles, the terminals of the battery fuse block could be damaged during normal driving. This can result in a loss of forward and rear lighting, a loss of gauges, and a loss of power steering assist. Safety risk: a loss of forward lighting would reduce visibility. A loss of rear lighting could make the vehicle less visible and cause a following driver to not recognize that a vehicle ahead is braking. A loss of power steering assist could make the vehicle difficult to steer. These failures could increase the risk of a crash. Corrective actions: polaris will notify owners by mail and instruct them to take their vehicle to a dealer to inspect the battery fuse block terminals and relocate the 50-a chassis fuse.

  • Recall 2019136 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
Issue: on certain vehicles, the seat base may have been assembled improperly. This could cause the seat belt buckle to detach or cause the seat slider not to latch properly. This could result in unexpected movement of the seat or seat back. Safety risk: if the seat moves while driving, vehicle control could be affected. In a crash, a seat that moves or a seat belt that separates could increase the risk of injury. Corrective actions: the company will notify owners by mail. Owners will be instructed to take their vehicle to a dealer to have the seat belt bracket and the seat slider latch inspected. If an incomplete or missing weld is found, or if a slider does not latch properly, the seat base will be replaced. Note: this supersedes recall 2018-144. Vehicles repaired under the previous recall do not require repair under this recall.

  • Recall 2018633 [Canada]: Electrical
On certain vehicles, the rearview camera could fail internally and overheat, creating a fire risk. This could also result in loss of tail light function. Both of these conditions could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect and replace the camera as necessary.

  • Recall 2018144 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
On certain vehicles, the seat belt buckle and seat back may dislodge from seat base and/or the seat sliders may not latch properly. If the seat were to slide unexpectedly, vehicle control could be affected, and/or in the event of a crash, if the seat belt buckle and seat back were to dislodge from the seat base, an occupant may not be properly restrained, which would increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect the weld of the seat belt bracket and inspect the seat slider latching function. If a weld is found incomplete or missing, or if a slider does not latch properly, the seat base will be replaced. Note: this recall is superseded by recall 2019136. Please see recall 2019136 for more information.

  • Recall 2017294 [Canada]: Suspension
On certain vehicles which had a rear swing arm previously replaced under recall t-16-06 (transport canada no. 2016-520), the swing arm may have been installed without two dust plug grommets. Without dust plug grommets, debris could contaminate the rear wheel speed sensor, which could affect abs and traction/stability control functions, increasing the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will inspect for the presence of the grommets, and install if found missing. Note: if the speed sensor were to become inoperative, abs and traction/stability control dash lights would illuminate.

  • Recall 2017155 [Canada]: Seats and restraints
Certain vehicles may not comply with canada motor vehicle safety standard (cmvss) 208 - occupant protection in frontal impacts. The vehicle fails to provide an audible warning if the driver's seatbelt is not buckled, contrary to the requirements of the standard. This could increase the risk that the driver remain unbelted, increasing the risk of injury in a crash. Correction: dealers will install a newly designed jumper harness which included the required seatbelt chime.

  • Recall 2016521 [Canada]: Fuel supply
On certain vehicles, there may be insufficient clearance between the fuel line and hood structure. This can result in abrasion of the fuel line, which could result in a potential fuel leak. A fuel leak in the presence of an ignition source could result in a fire causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace and re-route the fuel line.

  • Recall 2016520 [Canada]: Suspension
On certain vehicles, due to a defect in manufacturing, the rear swing arm may not meet strength specifications. This could result in the potential for the swing arm to fracture if the vehicle were to strike a pothole, or be subjected to a severe event, which could result in a a loss of control and a loss of propulsion which, in conjunction with traffic and road conditions, and the driver's reactions, could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the rear swing arm with a swing arm with a stronger geometry.

  • Recall 2015558 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
On certain vehicles, the electrical relay used for the headlight circuit could cause the headlights to operate intermittently or turn off while the vehicle is in operation. This could compromise the driver's visibility, which could result in a crash causing injury and/or property damage. Correction: dealers will replace the single headlight relay with a circuit that uses two relays.

  • Recall 2015020 [Canada]: Steering
On certain vehicles, the steering rack may have been manufactured with a defective bearing. This could affect steering system function, or result in a loss of steering control, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will replace the steering rack assembly.

  • Recall 2015019 [Canada]: Structure
On certain vehicles, some roll hoops do not meet the manufacturer's hardness specifications and may not provide the level of protection that was originally intended. In the event of a rollover, this could increase the risk of injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will inspect, and if necessary, replace the roll hoops.

While i was shifting, when i depressed the clutch, the engine fully revved. During this instance, i tapped the gas pedal to see if it was sticking. It was not sticking and was fully out. This happened so fast as i was driving on hills in the mountains and had to turn the key off, which was the only was to stop the revving. By the time all this had happened though, the tach went to 7,000 rpm. The motor redlines at about 6400, just fyi. This never happened before and a serious outcome could have developed, and would have definitely developed if my wife had been driving the bike. Thinking back, i was probably doing 40-50 mph. Sunny, about 90 degrees f. In the mountains with a lot of hills and turns. Now, returning home it "sort of" happened again. The engine revved to about 3500 rpm this time while depressing the clutch to shift. However, now being alert to the issue, i put it back in gear. Then put it in and out of gear to see if the revving stopped. Just fyi, yes the bike is a 2015. However, the bike only has 7,600 miles. When i arrived home, i had my wife depress the gas pedal several times to see if i noticed anything. First glance, without really investigating, i could see no linkage in the engine bay. This is a very dangerous situation as this just happened today. My wife will not be driving this bike now for reasons stated above.

On august 13, 2016 my brother was driving his 2015 polaris slingshot (model # t15aapfaab) when the vehicle suddenly veered into on coming traffic. His vehicle then collided with a car being driven in the opposite direction, my brother did not survive. Soon after, it was discovered that his vehicle may be included it the nhtsa safety recall 15v-022 for loss of steering (polaris recall sli-15-02). I conveyed this information to the livonia, michigan police officer who was investigating the collision. Officer hayne, of the livonia pd then contacted the polaris dealer, monroe motorsports, in monroe, michigan where the vehicle was purchased to investigate. Monroe motorsports informed her that the only recall on the vehicle was sli-15-05, headlights which was completed the day of the collision. Hearing this, i explained to officer hayne that the information on the nhtsa recall contradicted these findings. I further explained to officer hayne that the vehicle owned and operated by my brother on the day of the collision clearly fit all of the nhtsa requirements. Model t15aapfaab production date 12/06/2014 vin 57xaapfa0f510xxxx officer hayne then contacted polaris and received a reply further indicating that nhtsa recall 15v-022 did not include this vehicle. How can a vehicle with the exact model number, and a production date and vin number that obviously fall within the recalled vehicles, not be recalled? Additionally, i noticed that the number of recalled vehicles may be incorrect. If you subtract the starting recalled vin [xxx] from the ending recalled vin [xxx], the total amount of recalled vehicles should be 2,344 and not the 1,896 stated in the nhtsa recall. I fear that my brother's vehicle may be one of the 448 overlooked defective vehicles. I await your reply in this serious matter. After just less than 3,500 miles, the master brake failure light came on during a normal drive. Quickly brought the vehicle back to garage. Followed owner's manual guidelines, checked brake fluid level and contacted the dealer. Dealer indicated that this is a very common problem, no need to bring in for inspection if there is still braking. I expressed my concern with the brake failure light, and if the brakes do fail, this would result in a catastrophic accident. Over the phone they indicated that this is a very common issue; if so then polaris should fixed it quickly, as to the severity if the brakes do fail.

Brake failure light on dash. Abs and cruise control is disabled. This vehicle is 2 years old with less than 2,500 miles on it. This problem has plague most owners of the slingshot with the slingshot forums working to try to solve problem. This is a serious problem along with the spongy (air in brake lines) which has not be adequately addressed by polaris. This brake failure light is on all the time and of course is of concern only when the vehicle is moving. *tr

In regards to an intermittent problem i am experiencing with my polaris slingshot purchased on june 6, 2015. Shortly after purchase i began experiencing extremely high engine evolutions during the process of shifting gears. I took my vehicle on 06/162015 closest polaris dealership xtreme machines located 700 state hwy 33 west, millstone township, nj 732-786-9696. The mechanic performed the road test but was not able to identify the problem. I then returned to the dealer as the problem was becoming more frequent. The dealer informed me a ecu was updated and should fix the problem but to no avail. *js

We took our slingshot sl back to our dealer to have them remove and check front wheel rims for crackles due to recent reports of over 10 other slingshot owners having their wheels rims failure due to cracks while driving. The dealer would multiple casting imperfections and one large crack approx 1 inch in length and 0.1 ml in width (wide enough to put a fingernail). Polaris was contacted by the dealer and by us - at this time polaris is refusing to allow dealers to replace these defective cracked wheel rims. The second safety issue this motorcycle has is the rpms increase when you take your foot off the gas pedal and hold in the clutch to shift gears causing the motorcycle to rev up. We have been told the wheel rims are cast aluminum from china and are concerned about our safety when driving with this vehicle. At this time we have parked our new 2015 slingshot until these safety issues can be addressed by polaris. *tr

From day one ive experienced occasional to frequent engine flares, which is, when i press the clutch all the in while taking my foot off of the throttle, the engine rpm will hang at it's current value and will sometimes increase 500-1000 rpms and remain there for several seconds before reducing on it's own. At times i can go through several shifting events to hours of normal operation without problems but, the flaring has always happened on every ride ive been on. About three weeks ago he re-flashed the ecu which made the engine run smoother but did not fix the flaring issue. My dealer tells me that polaris tells him, that engine flaring during shifting is normal and shouldnt be worried about. If i'm driving it incorrectly or "something is interfering by holding the throttle, it would happen every time i shifted however, after today i need action. I was in my garage starting my 2/15 built ss sl with 3500 miles. As i have from day one, i allowed the ecu to complete the booting cycle and allowed the fuel pump to stop before i pressed the dashboard start button. The engine start cycle started with a slightly different sound, almost as if the engine backfired slightly but not an actual backfire. As the engine came to life the rpm instantly went to the rev limiter and held there for 1.5 to 2.0 seconds then started down in a few decelerating stages to idle before i had my wits to turn off the key. I was stunned and my wife, who was standing in front of it, just about dislocated a hip getting out of the way. The fact that you must press the clutch in in order for the start cycle to commence and the fact that i always start in neutral, averted catastrophe. All owners and polaris should be on alert and are hereby notified my dealer has offered to come and pick it up. Polaris is not being responsive at all on this issue.
