• Recall 18745 [USA]: Improper shoulder belt retraction does not provide adequate protection to the seat occupant in the event of a sudden stop or collision.
  The second row, right hand shoulder belt can become "pinched" between the seat and the door frame pillar trim. The shoulder belt may not retract properly, which does not comply with the requirements of fmvss no. 208, "occupant crash protection." the 1994 vehicles have an optional integral (built in) childseat installed next to the power sliding side door. The 1993 involved vehicles have standard seats in that same position.
  dealers will replace the door frame pillar trim panel with a redesigned trim panel. Also, a caution label will be applied to the child seat advising the owner not to install the seat to the passenger side of a vehicle with a power sliding side door.

• Recall 19274 [USA]: Consequence of non-compliance: passengers seated in these positon maybe unable to extract and fasten their seat belts until the vehicle is moved to a more level surface. unbelted occupants are more at risk of injury in the event of a collision than those using safety belts.
  The third row safety belt retractors may be installed incorrectly and may lock-up when the vehicle is on slopes of less than 15 degrees, which does not comply with fmvss no. 209, "seat belt assemblies."

Dt*: the contact stated the front driver's and passenger's side seat belts will not retract. There is a nhtsa recall, # 93v212000, 94v10000 and 94v015000, regarding the second, third and fourth row seat belt. The vehicle has the same problems as indicated in the recall; however the recall does not include the front seat belts. The dealer and manufacturer have been alerted.

Paint is peeling on the top of van. Other transports i have seen have the same problem. Is there a recall on the paint? The paint on the rest of the vehicle is good with no apparent defects. *tr

Stalls when gets warm. Abs braking light comes on every now and then. I was rolling up window it has electric and window shattered in side door. I have put a new module in and a newrotor cap and the new coil. The old coil caught on fire when the van stalled on me. Now it has no spark. I had it in sadlers motors and they told me the module was bad. I put it in. It studders going down the road when it gets warm gas quit coming out of injectors then when i put module on injectors work now i was wondering if there was recalls on any of that stuff i baught the van used. Warranty doesn't cover any of this. They said the warranty was in with the price of the van but to find out they charged us for the warranty. Somtimes when we hit a bump it has a rattling noise from rear; it sounds like from front somtimes.

While driving under rainy conditions, the windshield wipers suddenly stopped working. Consumer was almost hit by another car as a result. *nlm

Windshield wiper motor will fail and not properly oscillate unless windshield is very "wet". Problem occurs during light rain.*ak

Transmission - when you start the van, and put into gear, it takes at least 10-20 seconds before it will engage into forward and reverse. Drivers side seatbelt- would not retract, had to replace, it cost $100.00 replaced 2 altinators, 1 starter and 4 batteries. Had to re-seal intake twice. Lifter tick, donut seal replaced. Vacumm leak repaired. Coolant leak, had to replace head gasket twice. Coolant is leaking again. Door handle, drivers side broke today.

I own a 1994 pontiac transport, the windshield wipers stop and resume at will, sometimes they are inactive for as long as hours. Twice this almost led to an accident. I understand that in canada there has been a recall and a fix for this problem, how come not in the us? If the same component is being used there will be the same outcome!*ak

Spare tire fell off in yard when door closed. Cable rusted out. This could kill someone if it happens on the road!*ak

While driving at 55 mph in 20 degree weather, a transmission line to the cooler failed. Lots of oil on the road and lots of smoke. We pulled over and stopped avoiding a fire. Car was towed to be fixed.Broke. *ak

Dealer investigating cause of bouncey ride, discovered inner tie rod ends worn and loose. Advised that further wear would result in safety problem and recommended replacement of steering gear nfor approx. $1000. I declined repair due to cost and concerns about nature of defect. Recently had steering gear replaced on my 1998 grand prix with apprx. Same mileage. Steering gear was leaking. Dealer replaced at no cost-advised that this is very rare. Seems to be a trend developing here, since the assemblies in question on the two vehicles are nearly identical. I've already poured enough $ into this vehicle for failed alternator, a/c compressor, warped front rotors, etc. If the steering gear/tie rod failure is a design problem, gm should fix it at no cost. Please investigate. I do not have the vin available at this time--can provide upon follow-up.*ak

The windshield wipers failed intermittently. The dealer was contacted and stated that the windshield wipers had to fail before they would look at them. *ak *cb *nlm

Strut tower welds are coming apart on front/driver's side. Mechanic found this during inspection.*ak *slc

I was driving the vehicle on the highway, when without warning, it stalled. I pulled to the side, and attempted to restart the vehicle. It continued to start, by when i put it in gear it would stall again. After several times, we saw smoke, then immediately fire. The entire underside of the vehicle was burned by time the fire dept. Arrived. The highway patrol called aaa who towed it to my usual garage. After inspection, they determined it was too much damage to warrant fixing. I contacted the pontiac cust. Assist. Center and was given a reference # after filing a report. Have heard nothing. I had the vehicle towed back to my residence, where it is now. I still owe on the vehicle, and have no recourse. *ak

On 3/20/01, i was driving my van eastbound on rt. 33 in hocking county. My van stalled, so i pulled to the side. I attempted to restart the vehicle, and while it would continue to start, as soon as i put it in gear, it would stall again. A passerby stopped, and pulled the hood latch, then told me to try to start it again. Almost immediately, we saw smoke which we quickly determined was coming from under the vehicle. The vehicle burst into flames fueled by the gas from the fuel pump. The van is a total loss, and the logan fire dept. Stated it was caused by the fuel pump igniting. I am continuing to pay for this van as i only have liability insurance. I feel if i was driving my vehicle down the road, never came in contact with another car, and did nothing wrong, why should i be out my van? I contacted pontiac and was given a confirmation # for a report, but have heard nothing. Please help me determine if they are liable for faulty electrical equipment. *ak

While exiting the poll booth the front wheel came off the axle and struck the front fender (ohio traffic crash report). Nlm

When at complete stop engine stalls, after a few minutes will start again. *ak *slc

Exhaust manifolds were cracked and leaking, causing vehicle to stall, the faulty mainfolds also infiltrates vehicle with carbon monoxide poisoning, consumer smelled exhaust fumes. *slc

Windshield wipers don't work when raining or temps above 50 f. Several near accidents due to bad visibility. Problem started in summer 2000 and has continued and gotten worse.*ak

After market purchased tires from sears (stock # 09585287), vehicle was driven approximately 100 miles when the tire tread separated causing vibration while driving. *mjs

Pe00 02o; consumer said that he had a problem with a shaking and vibration throughout vehicle. Mechanic noticed three of tire four tires where the tread separated. Recommend to go to the distributor for replacement. The bridgestone turanza tires. *ak

When trying to enter passenger door i lifted up handle and the inner part of the lock broke off.I called dealer ,they sayit not under warranty. I have heard numerous complaints about this prob and was wondering if an investigtion could be possible before the drivers door brakes and then entering the vehicle would be impossible? *ak

Transmission system doesn't work, dealer said the module has failed but they see as gm problem. The controls between the steering wheel and the dash are shorting out changing everything when you drive. Seat belts have been replaced. The driver and passenger door handles have both been replaced as they broke right off. Just spent $560.00 to dealer and all i got was the seat belt fixed. *ak

Went to have ac charged, found that it is an electrical problem, windshield wipers (front/back) work sporadiically, consumer has to get out of vehicle to push wipers down when stuck. Went in for transmission work found that it was a wiring issue, van jolts when using cruise control and when going up large hills.*aki

Driver outside door handle broke. Could not open the driver's door from the inside or outside of the vehicle. Common problem. Was repaired at no charge because still under warranty. *ak *ml

While driving and looking for a parking space, when driver was about 3 parking spots away from her spot, she saw smoke. After that, in about 2 minutes, vehicle was engulfed in flames. Fire department was called. *ak

A fire started underneath at the right passenger's side dash. Harness to the fuses rubbed up against the plastic brace which is located underneath fuse panel and glove box, resulting in burning and melting of the wires. Owner wants to be reimbursed for cost of repair. *ak

Both door handles have broken, know of others with same style of handle mechanism that have failed same way, looks like defect of design, no recalls or tsb's found, broke within three weeks of one another; seatbelts are slow to retract if at all, resulted in slack getting caught in door jam, so consequently when pulled it broke and now will no longer retract; it is very frustrating and we paid good money for a good vehicle so we didn't expect this stuff to be happening. *ak

Transmission seals failed.

Five bolts on the right front wheel failed causing the wheel to collaspe.

Pgr valve causes engine to shut off while traveling, which results in loss of power braking and steering.

Main computer module malfunctioned, causing ignition to fail. This, in turn, foiled the plugs/burned out plug wires/carboned up the throttle and injectors. *ak

While driving with the left side rear window opened, the window fell out of the vehicle. Cause unknown. *ak

Bolts on the right front wheel failed and the wheel collapsed.

1994 pontiac transport electric sliding door does not stay shut. In the owner's manual an insert was put in with instructions to remove fuse for taillight and replace. This worked initially but no longer takes care of the problem.*ak

Sliding door electrical, push button closed, wanted to stop the door from closing, hit the button again to stop from closing, the door would not stop, arm was caught in the door, after trying to open door the motor failed, had to open the door manually. *ak

Transmission slips during acceleration.

While driving on the road the engine shuts down completely. The dealer is not able to correct the problem. *ak

Consumer was driving and hit something in the road which caused the fuel tank to leak into the back of the car, caught on fire because of the leaking gas . *ak

All these problems occured with less than 4 years of use on this van. We have regular service records for it as well. It was a very well taken care of van. We just had to replace the whole transmission with 90,000 miles! We'd like to be re-imbursed if possible by pontiac.We'vecalled pontiac but have received no help as of yet. We'd like to get some help,we have all the receipts of all the exausting work done to this van. Its no wonder they took it out of production 3 years later

Power sliding door won't stay open if parked downward on a hill.

Consumer sts rear window blew out while driving down highway-he thinks rear window is too large. Tt

While driving the vehicle at any speed the accelerator cable snapped, causing the gas pedal to go straight to the floor. Vehicle is not receiving any gas at all. Also, the computer chip shut the vehicle down. Contact the dealer, and they don't know the cause. *ak

Seat belts will not recoil in or out because it binds up in guide system. Tt consumer states at this point, shoulder belt through the guide as it is always twisted and stuck. *slc

While driving on the freeway at 35mph the entire frame fell off the vehicle. This caused the engine/transmission & steering to be ineffective. Had no steering control. Finally had vehicle towed to dealer to checke it out. Manufacturer had no engineer to check it. *ak
