NHTSA Mandated Recalls
  • Recall 16245 [USA]: This condition could result in noise and free play in the steering system and if left uncorrected, will result in loss of steering control.
A part of the steering column upper universal joint cracked during the manufacturing process.
dealers will inspect the universal joint for cracks and will replace cracked joints with new parts.
owner notification:owner notification is expected to begin during august 1996. Note:owners who take their vehicles to an authorized dealer on an agreed upon service date and do not receive the free remedy within a reasonable time should contact porsche at 1-800-545-8039.Also contact the national highway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.

  • Recall 19107 [USA]: The overloaded resistor can create heat sufficient toignite the plastic air pipe to which it is connected, resulting in an enginecompartment fire.
After the engine has been turned off, the rear heater will automatically operate in order to dissipate heat in the engine heating system. During this operation, the resistor for the rear heater blower can become overloaded due to a binding or seized rear heater blower.
porsche dealers will install a new resistor containing a circuit breaker.
system: heater; water; defroster; circuit breaker.Vehicle description: passenger vehicles.Note: if your vehicle is presented to an authorized dealer on an agreed uponservice date and the remedy is not provided within a reasonable time and freeof charge or the remedy does not correct the defect or noncompliance, pleasecontact porsche service center at 1-800-545-8039. Also contact the nationalhighway traffic safety administration's auto safety hotline at 1-800-424-9393.

  • Recall 21304 [USA]: Impaired throttle plate operation could prevent theengine from returning to idle, resulting in unwanted engine speed and possiblevehicle accident.
The ball sockets on the cruise control linkage can break, allowing the cruise control linkage to become detached on one end and jam on nearby components, which could impair throttle plate operation.
replace the current plastic ball sockets with a new linkage using steel ball sockets, and lubricate the cruise control relay lever. Owners are advised not to use the cruise control until the modification is installed.
system: cruise control.Vehicle description: passenger cars; carrera 2 and carrera 4 models.

  • Recall 24827 [USA]: Latch failure could cause hood to open and obstruct thedriver's front view which could result in an accident.
Luggage in the luggage compartment and or plastic trim surrounding the safety latch may prevent the latch on the front hood from properly locking.
replace plastic trim piece and install a bracket behind the safety latch to prevent interference.
system: hood safety latch.Vehicle description: passenger cars.

  • Recall R/1993/012 [UK]: Cruise control ball joint failure
There is a possibility that a ball socket on the cruise control may detach. This could allow the linkage to jam on adjacent components and prevent the accelerator linkage returning to the idle position when the pedal is released.
recall the affected vehicles for replacement of the original cruise control ball sockets with quality assured steel examples.

  • Recall R/1994/012 [UK]: Rear heater blower resistor may overload
The rear heater blower resistor can become electrically overloaded due to binding or seizure of the heater blower. The overloaded resistor may become hot enough to ignite the plastic air pipe in which it is located.
recall the affected vehicles for the installation of a modified resistor unit which incorporates a thermal link.

  • Recall 1996120 [Canada]: Steering
A part of the steering column upper universal joint may have developed cracks during the manufacturing process. If exposed to high forces, such as from single side curb contact, the defective part of the universal joint may develop excessive tolerances. This may result in noise and free play in the steering system. If uncorrected, the part may further deteriorate and eventually result in loss of steering control. Correction: universal joint will be inspected for cracks and replaced if necessary.

  • Recall 1994004 [Canada]: Electrical
The rear heater blower resistor can become electrically overloaded due to a binding or seized rear heater blower. The overloaded resistor can create sufficient heat to ignite the plastic air pipe to which it is connected and an engine compartment fire could occur. Correction: a new resistor with a circuit breaker will be installed on affected vehicles.

  • Recall 1992126 [Canada]: Engine
On vehicles with cruise control, the plastic ball socket on the cruise control linkage can break. If this should occur, the cruise control linkage might become detached on one end and could jam on nearby components. This could impair the throttle plate operation and prevent the engine from returning to idle which could result in loss of vehicle control. Correction: new cruise control linkage with steel ball sockets will be installed on affected vehicles. In addition, the cruise control relay lever will be lubricated.

  • Recall 1991015 [Canada]: Structure
The front hood safety latch may not properly lock due to possible interference from luggage within the compartment and/or a plastic trim piece surrounding the latch. If the safety latch is not properly locked, and if the front hood is left unlocked or is mistakenly opened while driving, the front hood could open, obstructing the driver's forward vision and resulting in an accident. Correction: plastic trim piece will be replaced and a bracket will be installed behind the safety latch to prevent interference by luggage or other objects.

To ensure accuracy and for your safety, it is recommended to do a free VIN recall check here or here [USA] - UK - Canada.
