Recall 2020056 [Canada]: Wheels
Issue: certain brush chipper trailers were built with wheels that have an incorrect wheel nut contact area. As a result, the wheel nuts could loosen over time and fall off. The wheels can also develop possible cracks causing the tire to lose air pressure. If either of these conditions happen, a wheel could separate from the trailer. Safety risk: a wheel separation could increase the risk of a crash. A wheel that detaches from the trailer could create a hazard for the towing vehicle occupants and other drivers and nearby people. Corrective actions: for brush chippers manufactured between august 1, 2016, and february 7, 2020: vermeer will notify owners by mail and instruct you to take your brush chipper to a dealer to inspect the wheels and replace them, if necessary. A new safety sign (warning label), tire/wheel specification label and a supplemental operator's and maintenance manual will also be provided. For certain brush chippers manufactured between 2006 and august 1, 2016 that had a replacement wheel(s) installed: vermeer will notify owners by mail and provide you with instructions for how to check the trailer for defective wheels. If you have not already done so, you should complete the provided inspection form return it (with photos) to: [email protected]. After you have submitted this form, you should contact your dealer to have a new safety sign (warning label) installed and receive a supplemental operator's and maintenance manual. If the brush chipper has the defective wheels, they will be replaced. Note: all owners should continue to inspect and tighten the wheel nuts and check tire air pressure on a daily basis, or at a minimum every 250 kilometers until the final repair has been performed.
Recall 2015507 [Canada]: Lights and instruments
Certain brush chipper and stump cutter units may not comply with the requirements of canada motor vehicle safety standard 108 - lighting system and retro reflective devices. During manufacturing, the side marker led lights installed did not include a reflex reflector built into the lens and no other reflex reflectors were installed on the sides of the trailers, which fails to meet the requirements of the standard. This could reduce vehicle conspicuity, which could increase the risk of a crash causing injury and/or damage to property. Correction: dealers will install separate reflectors with sae (a) marking or led side marker lights with reflex reflectors with an sae (a) rated lens.
