This CCM is very intermittent, yet may appear within a few miles of this software update. However, it could take as long as several thousand miles following programming to occur. In most cases, no functional problems are present that affect the operation of the vehicle. In very isolated cases, a functional fault may be present in which the vehicle could exhibit an intermittent no-start condition of the combustion engine. This can be rectified by allowing the vehicle to enter sleep mode and then attempting to restart the engine. When the above CCM condition is present, the following fault will be stored in the SME: 21F139 – SME: HW switch-off logic enabled This fault may be accompanied by additional EME/SME faults. CAUSE Software error beginning with ISTA\P 2.41.4 (I-level F001-11-03-511) CORRECTION Program the complete vehicle with ISTA/P 2.46.0 (I-level F001-12-03-500) or later. NOTE: ISTA/P 2.46.0 will not be available until March 2012. PROCEDURE Determine the current software level of the vehicle (See the “Integration Level Dealer” section in the SAM Key Data/Print Key Data). Interrogate the fault memory to ensure the condition is the same as the one shown in the Situation section. Note: When the ISTA system message displays: Battery voltage only “XX.XX” V. Please connect charger. Please note the displayed battery voltage reading in the repair order comments section. A. If no functional problems are present, clear the fault memory and ask the customer to bring the vehicle back in March, once the updated software is available. http://www.bmwtis.net/tiscode/cgi-bin/omcgi.exe?sie_path=/tsb/bulletins/htm_store/14264.... 3/2/2012 Page 2 of 2 B. If any functional problems or additional symptoms are present, please submit a PuMA case for additional technical support. WARRANTY INFORMATION Covered under the terms of the BMW New Vehicle/SAV Limited Warranty. Defect Code 61 25 00 02 00 Procedure Step A (Vehicles without Functional Problems) Labor Operation: Labor Allowance: Description: 00 00 006 Refer to KSD2 Performing “vehicle test” (with vehicle diagnosis system – checking faults) Refer to KSD2 Charging battery and if necessary, also 61 21 528 Labor operation code 00 00 006 is a Main labor operation. If you are using a Main labor code for another repair, use the Plus code labor operation 00 00 556 instead. If necessary, also Procedure Step B (Vehicles with Functional Problems) If the PuMA case results with eligible and covered work, claim this work with the defect code above or the applicable defect code and the labor operations listed in KSD2. Refer to KSD2 for the corresponding flat rate unit (FRU) allowance. Enter the Chassis Number, which consists of the last 7 digits of the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN). Click on the “Search” button, and then enter the applicable flat rate labor operation in the FR code field. If a control module fails to program correctly or initializations are required, the additional work must be claimed with separate labor operations under the defect code listed above, refer to KSD2.
