Dear Kenworth Customer,
Kenworth has determined that a bad batch of DOT4 fluid was used in the clutch master cylinder
of the chassis listed on this letter. The fluid can form borate salt crystals which may cause the
clutch master cylinder to seize.
The chassis numbers listed by VIN on this letter require inspection and may require repair by an
authorized dealer. Please contact a Kenworth dealership to schedule an appointment for this
work. You can find the nearest Kenworth dealer at Dealer Locator on the website
www.Kenworth.com.
When contacting your selected Kenworth dealer, refer to campaign TIB 23-001 and the VIN listed
on this letter. The repair will take approximately one half hour and there will be no charge to you if
completed within Standard Warranty (excludes Extended Warranty) or for repairs completed by
08/01/2015, whichever is greater. We apologize for this inconvenience but ask for your
cooperation to ensure continued satisfaction with Kenworth products.

NOTE: Some chassis affected are so new that Kenworth may not have customers’ names and addresses registered. Please contact your customers or
check your lot for these chassis.

Through Standard Warranty (excludes Extended Warranty) or for repairs completed by 08/01/2015, whichever is greater, Kenworth will pay for parts at
dealer net plus applicable mark-up and labor:
0.5 hours labor to inspect and flush Clutch Master Cylinder with DOT3 Fluid. (Use Quick Claim Code 23-01A).
1.0 hours labor to R&R Clutch Master Cylinder and flush fluid, refill with DOT3. (Use Quick Claim Code 23-01B).
File an additional claim for extraordinary circumstances. A quick claim for standard labor must be filed first.

Background
It was determined that a bad batch of DOT4 brake fluid was installed in the chassis affected. This bad batch of DOT4 fluid had the propensity to develop
borate salt crystals. Presence of crystals of the right size, in the right place can cause a blockage within the clutch master cylinder. Blockage of internal
bleed ports in the master cylinder may result in the driver being unable to compress the clutch, prevention of clutch engagement, or poor pedal feel and
performance.
