2016 F-53 Motorhome Chassis, F-59 Commercial Stripped Chass
ISSUE
Some 2016 F-53 Motorhome Chassis and F-59 Commercial Stripped Chassis vehicles built on or before 2/15/2016 and
equipped with a 6.8L engine may exhibit an illuminated malfunction indicator lamp (MIL) with diagnostic trouble code
(DTC) P0300, P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308, P0309 and/or P0310 present in powertrain
control module (PCM) memory with no other drivability symptoms.
ACTION
Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
SERVICE PROCEDURE
1. Using Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) or equivalent, retrieve DTCs from the PCM. Is DTC P0300, P0301, P0302,
P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308, P0309 and/or P0310 present in the PCM memory ?
a. Yes - proceed to Step 2.
b. No - this article does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Control/Emission Diagnosis (PC/ED) manual for normal
diagnostics.
2. Reprogram the PCM to the latest calibration using IDS release 99.03 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the
internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained at
www.motorcraftservice.com.
3. Perform misfire monitor neutral profile correction procedure from the IDS toolbox: Select Powertrain, Service
Functions, Misfire Monitor Neutral Profile Correction and follow on screen prompts.
4. Clear DTCs.
NOTE: ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE TRANSMISSION SHIFT
STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE
PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER
WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING PROCESS MAY RESULT IN FIRMER THAN NORMAL
UPSHIFTS AND DOWNSHIFTS FOR SEVERAL DAYS.
