File in Section: Service Bulletin - Bulletin No.: 16-NA-131 Date: May, 2016 INFORMATION Subject: Information on Vehicles Designed to Operate on Gaseous Fuels Brand: Model: Cadillac Chevrolet GMC All GM Passenger Cars and Light Duty Trucks Model Year: VIN: from to 2011 2016 GM Dedicated CNG/LPG Upfitted Vehicles Starting in 2011 model year, GM Dedicated CNG Vehicles (single-invoice) are designed and equipped with the appropriate gaseous fuel storage and handling gaseous fuel subsystems installed by GM as part of the overall 6.0L Vortec Gaseous Powertrain system in full size cargo vans. All other GM powertrains like Ethanol E85 capable engines do not have the necessary internal hardened component enhancements required to operate on CNG/LPG and therefore cannot be "upfitted" with Non-GM equipment. As a reminder, GM does not endorse or authorize any End Products made by other Manufacturers, nor any non-GM work performed on new vehicles (by Dealers/ Manufacturers/Upfitters, including those with a valid Special Vehicle Manufacturer's Agreement) other than warranty work or recall campaigns authorized by GM. This is true for new vehicles on which further work (incomplete manufacturing) is to be performed, or a new vehicle that is "altered" between the time it is certified as a completed vehicle by GM, and the time that it is delivered to the first retail, fleet, or commercial customer. Any changes to the GM Powertrain Fuel, or Emission Systems that involve modifications, conversions, or the addition of non-GM approved products will VOID the GM Powertrain Limited Warranty including, but not limited to the repair of engine, sensors (02), wiring, control modules, emissions, exhaust system, catalytic converter, and any other components and/or control systems which fail because of the modification or conversion. GM will not be responsible for costs associated with the repair of these vehicles due to failure of the aftermarket installed components or failures of related vehicle systems induced by these non-GM approved products. According to the Dealer Sales and Service Agreement (Article 5.1.1) Copyright 2016 General Motors LLC. All Rights Reserved. from Engine: Transmission: CNG/LPG Engines Only All to "If dealer modifies or sells a modified new motor vehicle, or installs any equipment, accessory, recycled part or part not supplied by General Motors, or sells any non-General Motors service contract for a motor vehicle, dealer will disclose this fact on the purchase order and bill of sale, indicating that the modification, equipment, accessory or part is not warranted by General Motors or, in the case of a service contract, the coverage is not provided by General Motors or an affiliate." The dealer is required to disclose to the customer any modifications made, or parts and/or accessories installed on the vehicle that are not GM approved, any dealer services not recommended by GM, as well as any Non-GM service contract. To comply with these obligations, the dealer can locally reproduce the form provided in this bulletin to properly disclose any of the above situations. This disclosure form must be presented to the customer during the sales or service process, signed, and a copy must be kept in the customer's sale and service file along with copies of the purchase order and bill of sale. In those cases where the vehicle modifications, non-GM parts and/or accessories are warranted by the installer, manufacturer, or upfitter, a copy of the third party warranty must be presented to the customer at the time of vehicle sale or with the invoice or repair order. Please refer to Customer Assistance, Training, Tools and TAC Policy Manual, Article 4.1.1 for additional information, or contact your regional GM Sales representative. All non-GM parts and technical assistance for repairing alternative fuel system not installed by GM are only available through the conversion/upfitter company. Page 2 Version May, 2016 Bulletin No.: 16-NA-131 1 Modified GM bulletins are intended for use by professional technicians, NOT a "do-it-yourselfer". They are written to inform these technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or to provide information that could assist in the proper service of a vehicle. Properly trained technicians have the equipment, tools, safety instructions, and know-how to do a job properly and safely. If a condition is described, DO NOT assume that the bulletin applies to your vehicle, or that your vehicle will have that condition. See your GM dealer for information on whether your vehicle may benefit from the information. WE SUPPORT VOLUNTARY TECHNICIAN CERTIFICATION
