PURPOSE
In some vehicles, there is a possibility of the tailgate garnish contacting the rear combination lamps.
This may be due to insufficient clearance between the tailgate garnish and the rear combination
lamps. Dimensions between the parts may also change due to heat expansion and normal usage.
This TSB instructs dealers to replace the tailgate garnish in affected vehicles, how to measure the
proper clearance between the tailgate garnish and rear combination lamps, and adjust if necessary.
AFFECTED VEHICLES
2014-2015 Outlander vehicles built BEFORE April 17, 2015.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
NOTE: If the rear combination lamps have been damaged as a result of this concern and require replacement,
replace the rear combination lamps at the same time as the tailgate garnish.
1. In vehicles where the tailgate garnish is contacting the rear combination lamps as a result of this
concern, replace the tailgate garnish with the countermeasure part, following instructions in the
Service Manual, Group 51-Exterior -> Liftgate Garnish -> Removal and Installation.
2. Measure the clearance between the tailgate garnish and rear combination lamp in the affected area
shown below.

a. Open the tailgate and hold slightly away from car
until the body-colored side panel of the tailgate
garnish is visible.
b. Measure the clearance between the side panel of the tailgate garnish and rear combination lamps
in several places along the affected area.

If clearance is 5 mm or LESS, go to step 3 to perform adjustment.

If clearance is more than 5 mm, no adjustment is needed.

3. Adjust clearance between the tailgate garnish and rear
combination lamps.
a. Open the tailgate, and loosen screws “A” and “B.”

b. Push the rear combination lamp to the outside by
hand until the clearance between the tailgate
garnish and rear combination lamp is more than
5 mm.

c. Tighten the screws while keeping the rear
combination lamp in this position.
d. If necessary, repeat the adjustment on the other
side.
4. Measure the clearance again between the tailgate
garnish and rear combination lamps, as described in
step 2, and confirm it is more than 5 mm.
