SUBJECT: GROUP Chassis MODEL Optima (QF/TF) All Optima Hybrid (TF HEV) All NUMBER PS343 DATE August 2014 OILY SUBSTANCE DRIPPING FROM MDPS STEERING COLUMN On some Optima (QF/TF/TF HEV) vehicles, the customer may complain of an oily substance dripping onto the driver’s side floorboard area, especially in areas with high ambient temperatures. This concern may be due to an excessive amount of grease applied to the steering column tilt adjustment area, which may become liquefied and drip when heated past its melting point. Using a clean shop towel, remove the excess layer of grease from around the column pivot area, being sure to leave sufficient grease to allow for easy adjustment of the tilt mechanism. Do NOT replace the MDPS steering column to resolve this concern. Page 1 of 1
