CONDITIONS
Customer Complaint:
Motor Coach Industries ("MCI") has become aware that the incorrect electronic control unit ( ECU ), which
controls the antilock braking system ( ABS ) on the trailing ( tag ) axle, was installed at the production plant.
An incorrect ECU on a coach equipped with a rear axle steering ( RAS ) tag axle could result in unnecessary yaw
corrections by the electronic stability control ( ESC ) system at speeds below 20 mph. The operator may
experience a small bump steer force at the steering wheel and minor jerking motion of the coach due to brief
system application of the service brakes at one or more of the wheel ends.
Cause:
Incorrect part installed at production plant.
Corrective Action:
MCI will remedy the affected coaches at no cost to customers by replacing the ECU. However, proper repairs will
require the use of specialized equipment, and therefore MCI strongly urges customers to make an appointment as
soon as possible by calling the MCI Customer Service Line at 1-800-241-2947, to have a the repairs performed by
trained technicians who have the necessary equipment.
