 Customer has problems filling the fuel tank (fuel nozzle keeps clicking off).
 The MIL may be illuminated.
 Water and/or ice is found in the activated carbon filter reservoir and natural vacuum leak detection (NVLD)
pressure switch.
 DTC P0451 (pressure sensor for tank ventilation system, implausible signal) is found in the engine control
module (ECM), J623 (address word 0001).
 DTC P0441 (tank ventilation system, through-flow faulty) may also be stored.
Technical Background
Water enters through the tank ventilation system. The water can flow through the NVLD pressure switch into the
activated charcoal filter and freeze in cold temperatures.

Service
1. Remove activated charcoal filter, ventilation
tube, and NVLD pressure switch. Cap off
opening to prevent any liquid from escaping.
2. Weigh activated charcoal filter:
 If it weighs more than 2600 grams, replace
the activated charcoal filter, ventilation
tube (Figure 1), and NVLD pressure
switch.
 If it weighs less than 2600 grams, replace
the ventilation tube (Figure 1) and the
NVLD pressure switch.
