FRONT JUNCTION COMPARTMENT DOOR WATER INTRUSION
CONDITIONS
Description:
Motor Coach Industries ("MCI") has become aware that some J4500 series coaches may experience water
intrusion into the interior cavity of the front junction box compartment. Installation of an additional seal on the
interior face of the door and a door stop will reduce the potential for water intrusion.
This information is applicable to customers operating J4500 series coaches between the range of, and including,
unit numbers 66068 to 68080.

Service Information:
1. New parts will be available for service replacement.
Service Procedure:
Read this entire procedure before beginning work.
Use Safe Shop Practices At All Times.
1. Turn the main battery disconnect switch to the OFF position.

2. Open the front junction compartment door.
3. Using a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water, clean the upper interior face of the front junction
compartment door.
Allow enough time for the mixture to flash off, prior to retrofit.
4. Carefully remove and discard the protective backing from the seal, p/n 03-31-4583.
5. Orient and route the seal on the interior face of the door per the dimensions provided in Figure 1.

To secure the bracket stopper to the fibreglass panel on the door in Step 6, either methacrylate
or Devcon® 2 Ton® Epoxy with syringe can be utilized.
6. Orient and position the bracket stopper, p/n 03-31-4584,on the interior face of the door per the dimension
provided in Figure 1/Item 6. Using a marker, mark the outline to assist in proper install location. Apply
methacrylate or Devcon® 2 Ton® Epoxy to the back of the bracket stopper and orient with the marked
outline, refer to Figure 2. Carefully secure in position until application cures.

7. Position the bracket holder, 1.70 inches above the frame tube at the bottom of the junction box, as shown in
Figure 3.
8. Using the existing slot holes in the bracket holder, use a marker to identify the drill hole positions on the
frame tube. Using a 0.391 inch drill bit, drill holes in the two marked positions.
9. Orient and install the rivnuts, p/n 19-3-469, in the holes.Using capscrews, p/n 19-01-1524, secure the
bracket holder to the tubing frame. Tighten to secure.

Utilize a drill bit guard set to a maximum depth of 0.250 inch when drilling into the interior face of
the door, to prevent drilling through the complete door assembly.
10. Using the existing holes in the bracket stopper, drill four holes using a 0.20 inch drill bit and drill bit depth
guard into the interior face of the door.
11. Orient and install the rivets, p/n 19-13-0320 in the holes to secure bracket stopper.
12. Open and close door to test alignment of the bracket stopper to the holder. Adjust capscrews on holder as
required to achieve proper fitment and seal.
