Summary
This article supersedes TSB 17-2272 to add an ending build date.
Issue: Some 2018 F-150 equipped with 5.0L engines built on or before 3-Jan-2018 may exhibit an illuminated
MIL with diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs) P0316 and/or P0011, P0012, P0016, P0018, P0021, P0022, P0300,
P0301, P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308 stored in powertrain control module (PCM) and
exhibit no drivability concerns.
Action: Follow the Service Procedure steps to correct the condition.
Warranty Status: Eligible Under Provisions Of New Vehicle Limited Warranty Coverage And Emissions
Warranty Coverage Warranty/ESP coverage limits/policies/prior approvals are not altered by a TSB.
Warranty/ESP coverage limits are determined by the identified causal part and verified using the OASIS part
coverage tool.

Service Procedure
1. Connect the Ford Integrated Diagnostic System (IDS) or Ford J2534 Diagnostic Software (FJDS) to the data
link connector (DLC). Check for DTCs. Is P0316 and/or P0011, P0012, P0016, P0018, P0021, P0022, P0301,
P0302, P0303, P0304, P0305, P0306, P0307, P0308 stored in the PCM?
(1). Yes - proceed to Step 2.
(2). No - this article does not apply. Refer to the Powertrain Control/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual for
normal diagnostics.
2. Reprogram the PCM using IDS or FJDS release 108.03 or higher. Make sure you are connected to the
internet when entering module programming to obtain the latest updates. Calibration files may also be obtained
at www.motorcraftservice.com.
(1). NOTE: ADVISE THE CUSTOMER THAT THIS VEHICLE IS EQUIPPED WITH AN ADAPTIVE
TRANSMISSION SHIFT STRATEGY WHICH ALLOWS THE VEHICLE'S COMPUTER TO LEARN THE
TRANSMISSION'S UNIQUE PARAMETERS AND IMPROVE SHIFT QUALITY. WHEN THE ADAPTIVE
STRATEGY IS RESET, THE COMPUTER WILL BEGIN A RE-LEARNING PROCESS. THIS RE-LEARNING
