GROUP NUMBER CAMPAIGN Technical Service Bulletin DATE 18-01-017-1 MODEL MAY, 2018 ACCENT (HC) HC ACCENT SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2X) SUBJECT: This bulletin is revised to add procedure to reset the Adaptive Values by GDS as final step. *** Dealer Stock and Retail Vehicles *** Dealers must perform this Service Campaign on all affected vehicles prior to customer retail delivery and whenever an affected vehicle is in the shop for any maintenance or repair. When a vehicle arrives at the Service Department, access Hyundai Motor America's "Warranty Vehicle Information" screen via WEBDCS to identify open Campaigns. Description: This bulletin provides the procedure to inspect the current spark plugs, replace all 4 spark plugs, check new spark plug gap, and clear Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC). This bulletin addresses the following conditions: DTC P0300 / P0301 / P0302 / P0303 / P0304 Random/Multiple Misfire. Engine runs rough. APPLICABLE VEHICLES: Certain 2018 Accent (HC) with 1.6L Gasoline (Gamma) GDI engine Parts Information: MODEL PART NUMBER DESCRIPTION Accent (HC) 18846-10061QQH Spark Plug PHOTO QUANTITY 4 / Vehicle Warranty Information: MODEL OP CODE OPERATION OP TIME CAUSAL P/N NATURE CODE CAUSE CODE Accent(HC) 180M06R0 Spark Plug Replacement and GDS Scan 0.7 1884610061QQH I3A ZZ3 NOTE 1: Submit claim on Campaign Claim Entry Screen. NOTE 2: If a part is found in need of replacement while performing this Service Campaign and the affected part is still under warranty, submit a separate claim using the same Repair Order Number and the same Causal Part Number as the Campaign Claim. If the affected part is out of warranty, submit a Prior Approval Request for goodwill consideration prior to performing the work. Circulate To: Service Manager, Warranty Manager, Service Advisors, Technicians, Fleet Repair SUBJECT: HC ACCENT SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2X) Tools Required Torque wrench Ratchet 3/8” Extension – 3/8” Socket 10mm-3/8” Spark Plug Socket 16mm-3/8” NOTICE Use a quality spark plug socket with rubber interior lining to hold the plug securely and prevent plug ceramic damage. Spark Plug Gap Gauge Service Procedure: ! CAUTION Perform this repair with ignition OFF. 1. Open the hood and remove the engine cover. TSB #: 18-01-017-1 Page 2 of 6 SUBJECT: HC ACCENT SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2X) 2. Disconnect all 4 ignition coil connectors. 3. Remove the bolt from each of the 4 ignition coils using a 10mm socket with a 3/8” ratchet and extension. Tightening torque: 9.8 - 11.8 N.m (1.0 - 1.2 kgf.m, 7.2 - 8.7 Ib-ft) 4. Remove all ignition coils. TSB #: 18-01-017-1 Page 3 of 6 SUBJECT: 5. HC ACCENT SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2X) Remove each of the 4 spark plugs using a 16mm spark plug socket on a 3/8” ratchet and extension. Perform the below spark plug inspection of each plug as it is removed and identify any cylinders that have damaged plugs. Spark Plug Inspection: Inspect each spark plug’s ceramic condition as they are removed from the engine to determine the appropriate repair action based on their condition: Plug Ceramic Condition All Plugs are Good (no damage) Cracked only. (no fragmented material is missing) Damaged with fragment(s) detached from the plug. Example Repair Action Continue with this TSB procedure to replace plugs and clear DTC. Continue inspecting other plugs and if none are damaged with detached fragment(s) like the example below, then continue the TSB procedure to replace plugs and clear DTC. DO NOT START ENGINE. Contact Techline for further repair advice. Identify affected cylinder(s) and take photo of the damaged plug condition to provide Techline to view severity of the plug condition and repair. Note: Fragment(s) may have fallen into the engine port(s) and may require special procedure to prevent engine damage. TSB #: 18-01-017-1 Page 4 of 6 SUBJECT: 6. HC ACCENT SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2X) Discard all 4 plugs removed from the engine. Inspect the condition of the new replacement plugs to make sure they are not damaged. Inspect the electrode gap of all 4 new spark plugs using a gap gauge. Adjust as required to meet specifications. NOTICE Electrode Gap spec: 0.9 - 1.0 mm (0.0354 – 0.0394 in) 7. Install new spark plugs using a 16mm spark plug socket with a 3/8” ratchet and extension. NOTICE Be sure to use a quality 16mm spark plug socket with rubber interior lining to hold the plug and prevent damage to the plug’s ceramic during installation. 8 Tighten all 4 spark plugs with a torque wrench to specifications. Tightening torque: 14.7 ~ 24.5 N.m (1.5 ~ 2.5 kgf.m, 10.9 ~ 18.0 Ib-ft) TSB #: 18-01-017-1 Page 5 of 6 SUBJECT: 9. HC ACCENT SPARK PLUG REPLACEMENT (SERVICE CAMPAIGN T2X) Reinstall the ignition coils, ignition coil connectors, and engine cover in reverse order of removal. 10. Attach a GDS to perform Fault Code Searching of the Engine System to check for any DTC P0300-P0304 and select Erase All DTC if any are found. 11. Select Resetting Adaptive Values within the GDS S/W Management menu. Follow GDS on screen instructions. The confirmation screen shown to the right will appear when it is completed.
