Both the upper and lower ends of the braces are now attached using 5/16-inch flatwashers. General Information The single diagonal rear brace on a Cascadia day cab FE13 roof fairing (sales data code 784-084) may crack or break under certain operating conditions. A more durable double-diagonal brace design has been in production since July 14, 2014. If the single diagonal brace (Fig. 1) is cracked or broken, convert to the doublediagonal brace design using the procedure in this bulletin. NOTICE Do not operate the vehicle without a roof fairing brace, or with a broken brace. Doing so could result in the roof skin cracking. 4 A A 1 2 2 3 12/05/2014 A. The brace may crack here. 1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, shut down the engine, and set the parking brake. Chock the tires. Remove the fasteners that attach the diagonal rear brace to the cab and fairing. Remove the brace. 3. Locate and drill a 3/8-inch (10-mm) diameter hole in each cab back-wall bracket. See Fig. 2. Using an M8 machine screw and a 5/16-inch flatwasher in the newly drilled hole, loosely install an L-channel brace on the forward-facing side of the cab back-wall bracket, with the brace web on the inboard side. Use the end-most hole on the brace. Repeat on the other side of the vehicle. 5. Attach the top end of one of the braces to the top flange of the fairing, then using the brace as a template, mark and drill two 3/8-inch (10-mm) holes in the flange. Repeat for the other brace. See Fig. 3. 6. Using M8 machine screws and 5/16-inch flatwashers, attach the upper ends of the braces to the fairing flange. 7. Tighten the screws on the lower ends of the braces.
