Issue:
Customer may complain that –
1. Gearbox fault is displayed on the Instrument Cluster (IC)
2. Flashing ‘D’ on the Transmission Control Switch and/or
Instrument Cluster (IC) following an ECO Stop/Start event.
ONLY DTCs P0715-64 and P0700-02 are stored in the Transmission
Control Module (TCM).
P0715-64 - Input/Turbine Shaft Speed Sensor "A" Circuit - signal
plausibility failure
P0700-02 - Transmission Control System (MIL Request) - general
signal failure
If there are any other DTCs stored in the TCM they must be
investigated and rectified prior to carrying out the instruction detailed
in this SSM. Refer to the DTC index on TOPIx – 100-00 General
Information – Diagnostic Trouble Code Index DTC: Transmission
Control Module (TCM)
NOTE – The concern detailed in this SSM typically occurs at low
mileage (below 2500 miles/4000 kilometres) and affects vehicles
fitted with either the 8HP45 or 8HP70 automatic transmission.
Cause:
Error in the TCM software (adaption learn will permanently resolve if
the issue is TCM software error), or a fault in the mechatronic valve
block assembly installed in the transmission.
Action:
Check the DTCs stored in the TCM.
If ONLY DTC P0715-64 and P0700-2 are stored then using

Pathfinder clear the DTCs.

Carry out an adaption drive cycle using Pathfinder so that a
minimum of 3 counts are achieved for each clutch. Select ECU
Diagnostics – Transmission Control Module (TCM) –
Transmission control module adaption learn.
If no issue remains on conclusion of the adaption learn release
the vehicle.
If a concern remains capture a readout of the adaption data from
the TCM and submit this information along with the session file
linked to this concern via a Technical Assistance so the
information can be reviewed by a ZF Transmission Engineer.
SRO Number – 86.98.58 – ZF Transmission Adaption Drive Cycle 0.8hrs
This SSM will be updated with closing vins when the new software to
prevent the issue occurring is introduced into Production.
Technicians - Please rate this SSM and provide comments so that
future communications can be improved.
1 = Poor – Basic information provided – The SSM does not help me
resolve the customer concern.
3 = Average – Adequate information provided – The SSM partially
helps me resolve the customer concern.
5 = Excellent – All required information provided to resolve the
customer concern.
