CONDITION SUMMARY:
SITUATION:
Water leaking may be evident through the upper area of the A-Pillar and into the passenger
compartment.
CAUSE:
This may be caused by certain body panels have been manufactured away from the required
specification and, in some cases, the required body sealant has not being applied in the optimum
location to prevent the ingress of water.
ACTION:
Should a customer express this concern, refer to the Service Information and then follow the
Workshop Procedure below.

sourcing Teroson Terostat® PU 9100/9200 sealant (or equivalent moisture curing polyurethane

Remove the A-pillar trim panel. (See TOPIx workshop manual section 501-05: Interior Trim and
Ornamentation - Removal and Installation - A-pillar Trim Panel).

Remove the grab handle.

Remove the roof moulding (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 501-08: Exterior Trim and
Ornamentation - Removal and Installation - Roof Moulding).

Apply soapy water to the affected area.

Use an air blower to blow compressed air around the edge of the inner cant rail.

While continuing to blow air around the edge of the inner cant rail (Step 7), inspect the soapy
water applied in Step 5 for air bubbles.
If bubbles do not form in the soapy water and a leak is not identified, remove the
soapy water, reverse Steps 1-6, and do not continue with this Technical Bulletin.
Raise a Technical Assistance (TA) for further assistance if required.
If bubbles form in the soapy water and a leak is identified, locate the specific
location of the leak and go to Step 9.

NOTE:
All soapy water must be completely removed from the vehicle before Step 10.
Remove the soapy water and dry the affected area.

Do not damage the vehicle paint.

Apply Teroson Terostat® PU 9100/9200 sealant, or equivalent moisture curing polyurethane
based automotive seam sealant, to the affected area.
Use a suitable and protected tool to evenly spread the sealant over the affected
area.
Remove any excess sealant.

Allow the sealant to cure for 45 minutes before going to Step 12.
NOTE:
New roof moulding clips must be used.

Install the A-pillar trim panel (see TOPIx Workshop Manual section 501-05: Interior Trim and
Ornamentation - Removal and Installation - A-pillar Trim Panel).

NOTE:
Only if required.
If required: perform Steps 1-15 on the opposite side of the vehicle.

If required: use a suitable fabric cleaner to remove any staining from the headliner that has
been caused by the water ingress.
