If Motorcraft Yellow Antifreeze/Coolant is found in the vehicle, service with the same coolant. 1. Allow the engine to cool before checking the engine coolant level. Visually inspect the engine coolant level at the degas bottle. Is the engine coolant level low? (1). Yes - proceed to Step 2. (2). No - this article does not apply. Refer to Powertrain Controls/Emissions Diagnosis (PC/ED) Manual or Workshop Manual (WSM), Section 303-03C for normal diagnostics. 2. Visually inspect the engine coolant for contamination. Is the engine coolant contaminated? NOTE: Engine coolant system flushing is not required during coolant pump removal and installation. During normal vehicle operation, Motorcraft® Orange Prediluted Antifreeze/Coolant may change color from orange to pink or light red. As long as the engine coolant is clear and uncontaminated, this color change does not indicate the engine coolant has degraded nor does it require the engine coolant to be drained and replaced or the cooling system to be flushed. (1). Yes - this article does not apply. Refer to WSM, Section 303-03C. (2). No - proceed to Step 3. 3. Perform a pressure test of the engine cooling system. Refer to Component Tests, Cooling System Pressure Test located in Diagnosis and Testing of WSM, Section 303-03C. Does the vehicle exhibit a primary coolant leak at the coolant pump? (1). Yes - proceed to Step 4. (2). No - this article does not apply. Refer to PC/ED Manual or WSM for normal diagnostics. 4. Replace the primary coolant pump. Refer to WSM, Section 303-03C. © 2018 Ford Motor Company All rights reserved.
