Today, January 16, 2019, Acura is announcing a warranty extension for certain 2009-14 Acura vehicles
equipped with the 3.7L V6 engine to address client concerns related to excessive oil consump on. Acura
is extending the powertrain warranty coverage to cover engine issues related to excessive oil
consump on from the original coverage of 6 years/70,000 miles to 8 years/125,000 miles whichever
comes first. To further ensure client sa sfac on and confidence, any affected vehicles from now un l
September 1, 2019 will be covered regardless of me in service or mileage.
BACKGROUND
On some 2009-14 Acura vehicles equipped with the 3.7L V6 engine, during normal opera on of the
engine the oil control rings may become clogged with carbon deposits. These deposits restrict the
control ring’s ability to return oil from the cylinder walls to the crankcase, resul ng in excessive oil
consump on.
REPAIR
If the client contends that his or her vehicle is experiencing excessive oil consump on, perform an oil
consump on test. If the test indicates excessive oil consump on, contact your DPSM and refer to service
bulle n 19-006 for further diagnosis and repair instruc ons.
PARTS
Parts to conduct repairs are currently available. Repairs must be authorized by your DPSM. Be sure to
obtain approval from your DPSM before a emp ng to order any parts for this repair.
TOOLS
There are two tools available for this repair:
Tapered Piston Ring Compressor (90 mm) (commercially available or equivalent): ARP 901-9000
Ridge Reamer (if needed) (commercially available or equivalent): WR30A

posted to the Service Informa on System. It includes parts, tools, warranty, and repair procedure
informa on related to this warranty extension.
