This bulletin does not necessarily apply to all the above-mentioned vehicles, some vehicles may have been modified before delivery. The owners of the vehicles affected by this bulletin will be advised by a letter indicating the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) of each vehicle concerned. DESCRIPTION On the vehicles affected by this bulletin, the power cable stud adapter on the alternator must be inspected and if needed, replaced. MATERIAL KIT #WB17-14 may be required after inspection, which includes the following parts: Part No. Writer: Description Qty 060297 Adapter, stud 1 5001983 NUT, M8 STAINLESS STEEL NSS 1 MLWB17-14B Page 2 / 6 Other part that may be required: Part Description Anti-corrosion compound Prevost #684013 or equivalent (Ref. Loctite Color Guard #34894 or #34979) Qty As required NOTE Material can be obtained through regular channels. PROCEDURE DANGER Park vehicle safely, apply parking brake, stop the engine. Prior to working on the vehicle, set the ignition switch to the OFF position and trip the main circuit breakers equipped with a trip button. NOTE YOUR VEHICLE MAY ALREADY HAS THE APPROPRIATE STUD ADAPTER. RISK OF ELECTRICAL SHOCK The alternator is connected to the batteries through master relay R1. If the ignition switch is in the OFF position and the battery master switch (master cut-out) is set to the OFF position, there should not be electrical power to the alternator terminals. However, a faulty master relay R1 could eventually leave the battery power circuit closed, thus electrical power would be present at the alternator terminals. DANGER Using a multimeter, probe the alternator B1+ terminal B1+ and the ground terminal. Make sure that the voltage reading is 0 volt prior disconnecting the alternator cables. Writer: ML Figure 1 WB17-14B Page 3 / 6 INSPECTION 1. Remove existing hexagonal locknut E, flat washer D and power cable A from the stud adapter. NOTE The existing locknut must be replaced as it is one-time use only. The existing M8 nut « E » #5001787 is canceled and replace by nut #5001983. 2. Discard old locknut E. FIGURE 2 3. Clean the anti-corrosion compound that was applied on the stud adapter B especially between flats. Figure 3 4. Inspect the distance between flats on the stud adapter. There are only two possibilities; 1/2’’ or 5/8’’. 5. First, use a 1/2’’ open wrench and check if you can engage the wrench between the flats of the stud. If you cannot engage the 1/2’’ open wrench on the stud, try a 5/8’’ open wrench and check if you can engage this second wrench between the flats of the stud and if it fits tight. Figure 4 NOTE Ensure step 5 is done properly as it will impact the following steps. Writer: ML WB17-14B Page 4 / 6 6. If the distance between flats is 5/8’’, you have the correct stud. Move to step 7. If the distance between flats is 1/2’’, you have the wrong stud and you need to change it. Move to step 10. FIGURE 5 CORRECT (part #060297) FIGURE 6 INCORRECT (part #564590) 7.
