Title
Diagnostic Trouble Codes (DTC) P0194-00 - Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor, Circuit Erratic,
Intermittent And/Or P016E-00 Closed Loop Fuel Pressure At Control Limit, Pressure
Too High - US17+OBD16 (Common Rail Fuel System) Emissions And Newer; Model
Year 2018 And Newer
Cause
Common Rail Engines may generate DTCs P0194-00 Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor ( RPS )
and/or P016E-00 Closed Loop Fuel Pressure At Control Limit, Pressure Too High due to
wear of the sensor and wire harness terminals. Due to the nature of the fault it may be
difficult or not possible to duplicate the symptoms.
S
For all active or in-active occurrences of this fault code complete the following process:
o
l
1. Replace both of the following parts:
u
t
• The Fuel Rail Pressure sensor.
i
• The short internal wiring harness that runs between the connector on the lower section of the two-piece valve cover
o
and the pressure sensor.

2. Apply Permatex Dielectric Grease part no. 81150 or 22058 to the pin and socket terminals. The grease may be
sourced locally.
2.1. Apply a generous amount of dielectric grease to the connector.
2.2. Push the grease into the connector. Make sure that all openings are completely filled.
2.3. Wipe any excess grease off of the face of the connector. When finished, the connector should look like the
example below:
3. Secure the rail pressure sensor wire harness to the connector body with a cable tie to keep the harness away
from the valve train components that move during engine operation.
• NOTE: Ensure that there is enough slack in the wire that there is no tension on the wires and pins at the connector
when securing the cable tie.
