Condition
A vehicle may have a tick noise from the engine cold, initial start in the morning.
Cause
A lifter may not have su cient amount of oil during cold start operation (not
pumped up).
Correction:
1. Allow engine to sit overnight. Start the vehicle and listen for a tick noise.
a. If tick noise is present proceed to next step in this PI.
b. If no tick noise is present after running engine for at least 5 to 7 minutes
release vehicle back to customer.
2. Drive the vehicle through the DFM modes.
a. Check for any misfire DTC and record. If DTC is found refer to SI for
diagnosis.
b. If not DTC is found and noise still persists, operate the engine thru
cylinder Deactivation test to isolate the cylinder with the concern.
3. If isolated inspect for a bent pushrod and/or collapsed lifter then, replace the
bank of lifters.
Engineering is working to understand cause for this concern. As
analysis from returned parts is completed, PI will be updated accordingly.
When the final repair is confirmed this PI will be changed to a Bulletin.
