Special Service Message
NOTE: A Special Service Message is a formal communication issued by Jaguar and carries the
same importance of a Technical Service Bulletin. An SSM is a quick method of communicating
"Need To Know" information to the technical service community. SSM's may be issued in advance
of a technical bulletin or may be the only communication on a given topic. All information
contained in Jaguar technical communications are intended for use by trained, professional
technicians with the knowledge, tools, and equipment required to complete the procedure
correctly and safely. It informs the Technicians of conditions that may occur on some vehicles, or
provides information that could assist in correct vehicle and diagnostic service.
SSM 74567 - EPB (Emergency Park Brake) is
applied and will not release

Issue:
EPB (Emergency Park Brake) is applied and will not release. The EPB applied light is
not on. The ABS (Anti-lock braking system), DSC (Dynamic stability Control) and
brake warning lights are on. The "Autonomous Emergency Braking not available"
message is displayed.
Cause:
Software error. This fault will occur in the following situation.
Vehicle put in to Neutral and IGN (Ignition) turned OFF
IGN OFF for a period of 15 minutes or longer (Cumulative within a given
drive cycle)
This means that if the driver is making a series of short "Neutral IGN
off stops" without the vehicle going to sleep in between then when
the stop time adds up to 15 mins the fault will occur.
Action:
To clear the fault the vehicle needs to go through a sleep cycle as follows.
1) IGN ON
2) Put transmission into PARK
3) IGN OFF
4) Exit vehicle and lock it
5) Wait 15 minutes before re-entering the vehicle.
