5/28/2020 Print Case Solution K32830643 Thursday, May 28, 2020 1:49:30 PM CEST ** SOLUTION ** Title Frame Or Cab Lean - Gen II Chassis Mack Models Mack Model LR , TE - TerraPro , AN - Anthem , GR - Granite , GU - Granite , PI - Pinnacle Volvo Models Volvo Model VNL , VNR , VNX , VAH , VHD ** SOLUTION ** Cause Frame lean can be caused by several seemingly isolated possibilities. The two most common are suspension and frame assembly issues. Solution Suspension causes must be ruled out first. There must be a sound base to find any other cause or you will be "chasing ghosts". Determine all suspension parts are correct for the truck and axles, especially the axle seats. Pairs of parts, i.e. springs, etc... are the same, side to side. on the same axle, i.e. front drive/rear drive. Some reports are showing the cause has been frame lean or "ladder torqueing" of frame structures during assembly. Investigation is ongoing and gathering of good information is imperative. Care must be taken when measuring of frame heights against shop floors due to possible floor irregularities. Minimum measurement locations Location 1. 2. 3. 4. Measurement Front of Frame Rear of Frame Back of Cab Front of Tandems Rear of 5. Tandems or Rear of Frame Best Practice For Frame Measurements Use a 4 ft level across the upper frame flanges and https://secure4.volvo.com/cbr/printCase.action?caseId=368562 1/4 5/28/2020 Print Case measure from the underside to the floor. This eliminates issues in the flange bends. Checking shop floor for level when measuring frame for level Use the 4 ft level on the shop floor directly under the frame where you will be taking each measurement. Measuring frame height where a 4 ft level will not work. https://secure4.volvo.com/cbr/printCase.action?caseId=368562 2/4 5/28/2020 Print Case Use a smaller level or a torpedo level where the longer level will not work, i.e. engine compartment, front of frame. Again , check the shop floor at each measurement location. Floor out of level at measurement location Where the shop floor is NOT level, shim the 4 ft level and then subtract the difference from the measurement at that location specifically Solution visibility Dealer distribution Function Group Function Group 71 frame Administration Author A241298 Dealer ID A241298 https://secure4.volvo.com/cbr/printCase.action?caseId=368562 3/4 5/28/2020 Print Case Last modified by A241298 Creation date 07-04-2020 21:04 Date of last update 13-05-2020 20:05 Status Published UNCONTROLLED COPY.
