"Need To Know" information to the technical service community. SSM's may be issued in
advance of a technical bulletin or may be the only communication on a given topic. All
information contained in Jaguar technical communications are intended for use by trained,
professional technicians with the knowledge, tools, and equipment required to complete the
procedure correctly and safely. It informs the Technicians of conditions that may occur on
some vehicles, or provides information that could assist in correct vehicle and diagnostic
service.

AJ20-D4 Service replacement engines may require a
balance shaft update prior to fitment.
Cause:
AJ20-D4 Balance Shafts not fitted with latest level
parts.
Action:
Check engine serial number (ESN) on the new
engine before replacing it, to check the latest level
balance shafts are fitted (ESN check has been
added to the long block procedure).
If Engine serial number (ESN) date is after
1 0 / 0 1 / 2 0 continue with engine replacement SRO
12.41.02 (G2172104 long block procedure).
If Engine serial number (ESN) date is before
1 0 / 0 1 / 2 0 continue to SRO 12.49.31 (G2519814)
and change balance shaft in new long block prior
to replacing the engine.
