Bulletin No.: Service Bulletin Date: 18-NA-118 September, 2020 INFORMATION Subject: Diagnostic Tip for Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) Illuminated - DTC P0101, P0171, P0172, P0300 and/or P1101 Set Model Year: Brand: Model: Chevrolet Cruze (Gen II - VIN B) 2016 Holden Astra BL 2017 from VIN: to from to 2019 — — Engine: Transmission: 1.4L (LE2) — Involved Region or Country North America, Australia, New Zealand Condition Some customers may comment that the MIL is illuminated. Some technicians may find one or more of the following DTCs set: • P0101: Mass Air Flow (MAF) Sensor Performance set in the Engine Control Module • P0171: Fuel Trim System Lean set in the Engine Control Module • P0172: Fuel Trim System Rich set in the Engine Control Module • P0300: Engine Misfire Detected set in the Engine Control Module • P1101: Intake Air Flow System Performance set in the Engine Control Module Cause 5040304 This condition may be caused by the air cleaner element bracket (2) not properly installed onto the mount (1), causing the bracket and/or mount to become warped over time. Page 2 September, 2020 Bulletin No.: 18-NA-118 5039419 An improperly installed bracket may cause the air cleaner element to warp, be misaligned and/or improperly seal onto the air cleaner housing inlet duct, creating gaps as shown above. Bulletin No.: 18-NA-118 September, 2020 Page 3 Correction 5042522 Perform an inspection of air cleaner element bracket: • If damage to the bracket (1) has been found, replace the air cleaner element and validate a secure connection between the air cleaner bracket and the mount. Refer to the Service Procedure below. • If no damage has been found to the bracket (2) and the air cleaner shows no signs of improper sealing to the intake duct, refer to SI for further diagnostics. Page 4 September, 2020 Bulletin No.: 18-NA-118 Service Procedure Additional Air Cleaner Element Bracket Service 5039529 Important: When removing the air cleaner element, care should be taken not to damage the bracket mount. Follow the instructions on the bracket for air filter removal. 1. Remove the air cleaner housing. 2. Remove the air cleaner element. Bulletin No.: 18-NA-118 September, 2020 Page 5 5039828 3. Squeeze the tabs (1) to release the bracket from the mount. 4. Slide the air filter away from the intake duct. 5. Using care, lift the bracket away from the mount and remove the air cleaner. 6. Align the new air cleaner to the air cleaner housing intake duct. 7. Align the bracket (1) to the mount (2). 8. Using care, slide the air cleaner and bracket rearwards till an audible click can be heard. Note: A properly installed air cleaner should not fall out of the housing when turned over and shaken slightly. 9. Inspect the air cleaner for proper seal around the inlet duct. 10. Install the air cleaner housing.
